Punk rock sucks

Featured Replies

Yes, Social D has an album coming out any time. Their last album, Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, and Self Titled are all fantastic. They are gritty yet accessible. It's hard to identify artist as specifically punk, as there are elements in most modern rock. Alternative Rock was a progression from Punk Rock. And are Pop-punk artists like Green Day considered punk? I say yes, but many people say no.

Check out "Story of My Life" and "Ball and Chain" by Social D. They are good starting points in terms of individual songs.

well mainly i'm curious about the genre for the political and social part (? seems they are related with some movements as ecologism, animal rights, and with squatting, ideas of freedom specially for culture), also for the music.

I'll check those soon

yeah i noticied that, some them are more alternative rock, thought that's a mix aswell.

Pop punk is more mainstream so i wouldn't consider them as be 'punk', although they share some things as wearing is similar, but i consider them less political and with lack of message in general. (i mean as OP said, Avril Lavigne can be considered any punk? )

A friend of mine was a huge fan of Green Day when a teenager, now she find them 'weak'. I could agree some early works, until they got popular were punk then they started to sound too produced and so.

I kinda like electro punk, is pretty common here and is easy to be listened.

And yeah is hard to clasify what is Punk or not, at least just the musical part since is very variated imo.

Punk music is all about attitude. Look at Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols. He could barely play his instrument, however, he had the look, attidude, and lifestyle associated with punk music. For that, he's a punk icon. Hell, he didn't even play bass on the Sex Pistols only studio LP.

yeah i know that, just was curious to dig more into it musically.

i'm finding a bit :dozey: when i see some 'non punk' bands that have some punk element in them as just to make them cooler -as i noticied today when checking again Linkin Park, who are said to be nu metal (?) (that's why i have my doubts about some pop punk, specially the wave as Simple Plan for instance), and they really have not much attitude for it, feels like a lie or something comparing it to the ones that initiated it as those lived it more.

anyways i'm no musical theorical or anything -doubt i'll ever be-, are just my impresions about it so far.

What artists count as pop-punk? I'm not sure what that is. :P

to know a band, go to their personal musical solo experiance in youth and depent influences music of musicians bands

both bands lose their identity because of musical commercial Record Labels.

an example of Pop Rock is more A-ha but pop band (Record Label)

(This is the first band I listened and loved, and me suicide if I did not listen them dreamed as fan crazy because so hard life depressed )

I listen too his old band Rock 60s-70s and new wave 80s

but them influenced by the Beatles but too Queen & Uriah Heep (Morten) from Soldier Blue band

Jimi Hendrix, The Doors (Pal) and The Doors (Magne) from the Bridges

example Fakkeltog first album

for me would be simply modern mainstream punk, even if they just mainly have the looks and the youth rebel spirit (but no other protest further than that): Simple Plan, My Chemical Romance, Fallout Boy, blink-182, Green Day (today ?).

Dunno, i guess that's a question few can answer.

update of the incursion in that 'genre'. as the previous post, i followed checking the said main precursors and so the 'similar artist' thing, which is so funny cause most of the times ends in epic fail similar sound association...

yesterday's journey was:

Sex Pistols, yet are too noisy for me. on the SA thing was curious to find people as Chuck Berry listed in.

The Starting Line, sound too well produced for me to consider them punk i may tag them as alternative rock instead.

Reel Big Fish, isn't that Ska instead? i like the mixes: trumpets, female vocals and so and yet some more rock/punk sound at times.

River City Rebels, lyrics are much political protest. I guess those are more hardcore, sound more rough and a bit screamo at times.

Something Corporate, i'm happy i finally got to check them. But, are they punk?

Some strange SA asociations to those of yesterday, (other than Chuck Berry): Motörhead ( hard rock), Pixies (don't are them post-punk), Black Sabbath (heavy metal), The Who, Mötley Crüe, Kaiser Chiefs, Alice Cooper, David Bowie, The Kinks, Ok Go = (? seriously? ).

Those SA things are pretty funny at times. That's why i like to discover genres that way.

I feel i like more the ska, i find it more accesible for the music is more catchy.

Yet again i alternated those with more pop, indie, rock music in between this and that album.

no!

I like punk

Im getting more and more into it.

Probably because the friends I have are all punkers.

...they have accepted me into their fold  ...which is interesting since those are ther types who used to give me crap in highschool.

But yeah I really love the Misfits, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Cradle of Filth.

Im not poshy at all by the way....

yeah i thought CoF are more hard rock or heavy, am i right?

i shall check them at some point.

i didn't meant to say it in that way, is just something random my brain remembered from high school times and the musical social groups.

well at least you get it better than me, i bet they though i was an anti-social freak :|

i never followed any particular social group in class, and still i don't.

I was the anti social freak in middle school.

Highschool got a bit better.

Freshman and part of sophmore year I sat at the mormon table.

Then I made new friends and we had this group that really couldnt be described as anything.

aaannnnd now Im out of highschool and I hang out with all the stoners and punkers and metalheads :p

well at least you are trying things on your own and seem you don't follow any particular trend, and are more open minded, that or you go from phase to phase

i bet my friends still think i'm an anti-social freak who happen to listen to weird music, cause is not the mainstream stuff they only know.

i remember being flamed for liking Bob Marley as if i were a pothead (when i was around 14), and then see my friend's notebook with lyrics of Marley the next year :| or when i mostly listened to 80's bands (around 12yo ) and be called an oldie, and years later they love those bands now cause mainstream media show them.

though according to my cousins i indeed listen weird bands that nobody have heard about :|

so other than sex pistols and misfits, you advice me other punk bands your friends/you listen?

i dk what bad religion and staind are but mah punk friends listen to that too....
