THE **I LOVE HARRY POTTER** THREAD

Featured Replies

Well, while I read a lot of books, I haven't read that many series (plural?). Anyone want to throw out some other nominees?

BTW you've probably already read it, but Jo was recently awarded the prestigious 'Legion of Honor' in France, and is now a knight?

Yeah, it's almost sad in a way. But when I'm feeling down, I'll often just set up a mellow playlist on my laptop and read a random chapter in one the books...Chicken soup!

fial?

:dozey:

shut up, my keyboard sucks at life

Hmm, good point. I'm not sure why they changed it...

I think I'll watch a HP movie now, which one shoud I watch?

Yeah, I remember noticing that. I can think of a quite a few reasons why they'd try that.

1. They didn't want to go through the trouble of enlisting the voice actor who plays dobby for that short scene, as he hasn't appeared since chamber of secrets (but is returning for deathly hallows). And from the standpoint from someone who hasn't read the books, it'd be sort of odd having Dobby pop in randomly for that sort scene without any lead up. Plus there's the whole deal of explaining that Dobby now works at hogwarts and so on, so it get's a bit messy. It's a lot easier to operate with a shorter list of characters. They like these films to be accessible to someone who hasn't seen the other movies, even in the books J.K. has to introduce everyone in a small way.

2. I think most of all, they thought it would tie in better with the plot and mad-eye. Didn't Mad-eye give dobby the gillyweed in the book? I suppose they thought it'd be more clever if, at the end when barty crouch jr. reveals how he had helped Harry, the viewer had some indication of what was going on beforehand (since they show mad-eye/crouch jr. inviting Neville into his office talking about herbology after the DADA lesson).

I'm pretty sure that was in the book, but they wanted it to have some relevance to the plot.

3. They also wanted to give secondary characters like Neville as much screentime as they can, because they are important to the series. You can't just make them silhouettes in the background behind the trio, the audience needs to be familiarized with Neville and Ginny and the rest. Plus Neville is a really likable character to have in the films. Come to think of it, they did the same thing with the room of requirement. If they had Dobby find it, they would've had to add another 10 minutes explaining things...

GOF probably, since we're talking about it. ;)

While we're talking about the 2nd task, there's one scene in the movie that seemed sort of odd, and that was when Harry shoots out of the water onto the dock and Emma (hermione  ) is there.

If I remember correctly, she kisses him on the head and then speaks in a strong french accent when she says the line "Fleur couldn't get past the Grindylows!"

^Good point(s)... all of that definitely seems plausible.

Actually, I think I'll watch GOF now, just so I can watch those scenes again. :nice:

let us know if there are any cool/weird scenes worth discussing! (like that random french accent  )

edit: Well, she was technically born in France, so maybe saying the word "Fleur" triggered some kind of cultural relapse or something. :P

Lol, I remember watching that and thinking "Wtf?!". I'll try to look for more strange or interesting things that we've forgotten about.

I don't even remember that accent, I'll have to watch the movie again;)

I just opened my GoF box to stick the DVD in my laptop, and it was empty. :bigcry:

I hate when that happens:(

Oooh, I found it. Watching now!

Lucky:P

I wish I could watch it but I don't own it. I never bought GOF or OOTP, I should really get around to getting those:\

No, for some reason I never got to buying DVD's....

Well while we're talking about the GOF movie, was anybody else semi-disturbed by moaning myrtle in the prefect's bathroom scene?

I laughed at Dobby when he died. Hehehe.

You're going to make me cry :P :bigcry:

Excellent, Fred and George just crossed the age line to put their names in the Goblet after taking those potions. And Hermione just said that very annoying (her voice sounds all smug :P) "it's not going to wooo-ork!" line.

I remember, I think it was on a podcast, where someone pointed out that where Fred and George are fighting on the floor with full beards, Fred says something like "I'll tear your ear off!" Which is a bit ironic considering George loses an ear in deathly hallows. :P

Haha, you're right, he does say that! It couldn't have been planned, though... :P

Rita Skeeter is so annoying. :bomb:

While interviewing Harry:

"Mmmm, this is cozy."

"...It's a broom cupboard."

"You should feel right at home, then!"
