Technically at 41 , you should be asking my kids what I listen to , er.. some band called Coldplay , Faithless , Linkin Park , Strokes , Oasis , Goldfrapp , U2 , Hard Fi , Razorlight but mostly dance tunes really and slipping into old git records -> ELO , Smiths . For my mother , time stopped when Abba released their Greatest Hits , at any given time of year , their cd will be playing in her car , bit of a shame as she went to loads of gigs when she was younger , Beatles , Doors , Stevie Wonder ah well , at least we arent having cringing conversations about music anyway and my Dad - nowt .

mom: Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Sting, Robbie Williams, .. and some other. but she's not a big fan, she only likes their music. :)

my parents enjoy pretty much anything can understand, meaning anything besides rap. basically easy going tunes. in particular, coldplay, il divo, robbie williams, elton john, mew (they are coming around lol ), U2 etc.

they aren't huge fans of any of those, but really like their music - if you get what i mean :nice:

Since when have Il Divo ever been cool??:stunned::confused:

And Elton John doesn't even come close nowadays!!;)

My father is a big Pink Floyd fan. He also listens to Led Zeppelin, Porcupine Tree, Muse and Radiohead.

My mother is pretty keen on Italian variety, that I totally loathe.

Anyway, both my parents listen to French singers that you all probably don't know, but I love : Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens, Renaud, Benabar, Cabrel...

hey elton might not be 'cool'...but he's definitely brought out some great music

That isn't in dispute - but this thread is about cool music that's listened to, and I don't think Elton was ever in that category! He's a bit too MOR for that!:D

^ there is a category? as in one that we all agree on? ah well that changes everything.

just remembered some others...red hot chili peppers and keane, esp.

It's just there are certain bands and singers that are associated with "coolness" and others which most definitely aren't.

I'm not the greatest fan of RHCP, for example, but I think most people regard them as being pretty "cool".

Most definitely uncool are manufactured bands and singers such as Take That, Wastelife, Girls Aloud and Britney Spears, for example.;)

He most certainly does. I hope you're getting there early (unless you have a seat, of course).;)

In a way I wish I did have a seat its less hassle, but I'm standing of course!!! Its the only way to go....and yes getting there early...i hate lining up though, especially when its hot..like its gonna be tomorrow!

the term itself is so widely defined and it's impossible to think we're all on the same wavelength of what we consider to be cool, so i hardly see reason to fuss over it lol i'm sure there are many artists/bands that people regard as cool, much to the credit of the music itself, and not their personal appearance or the way they were created.

but i shall agree with you on britney spears :uhoh: there was a time but that time has passed...thank goodness!
