U2

Recommended Posts

So reading U2 by U2, I was at the part of U2's concert in Tempe, Arizona where Bono was getting death threats from racists. And they took one particularly seriously cause the guy told authorities he had a ticket, he had a gun, and if U2 played "Pride," he'd shoot Bono.

So Bono is nervous and when he gets to the third verse (Shots ring out...), he just closed his eyes and sung, obviously a bit frightened. Then he opens his eyes after it's over, and Adam is standing right in front of him, willing to take the bullet.

I bet nearly all of you already know this, and I'm just really, you know, behind. But I found that so touching and had post about it here. Beautiful.

That's sweet :) And thanks for the reminder that I still haven't bought this book!

btw - I like your sig. TATE rocks. I wanted to see them in October but tix are sold out :(

It's a great book... hard to put down.

And yes they do! I just discovered them a couple of weeks ago, but I've been totally hooked since then. They're awesome.

There are better songs on the CD

but as a whole, it is the best record, every song. they aren't all generic.

songs like Unknown Caller and Moment of Surrender, along with White As Snow, not your typical U2 song

It's not their best record though, imo.

The Joshua Tree is better.

But even if you don't wanna go back that far at all. It's my least favorite album post-Pop.

I easily prefer All That You Can't Leave Behind.

I even have a soft spot for HTDAAB, so I'd pick that over No Line too, pretty easily.

IMO,

All That You Can't... is really solid, however I think Atomic Bomb did lack some depth, songs were too short!

Pop was brilliant as I see it.

And I will go back to the Joshua Tree, but TUF is great too, along with Boy.

No Line is a change, and I think with different dynamics on the songs make it good.

Every U2 album is good, and there is no denying it

I've decided Atomic bomb is much better than No Line, and is in my opinion their third best behind Achtung Baby and Joshua Tree . I keep going back and saying, wow this is a sensational album. The mixing is impeccable and it just has more natural feeling and depth. the guitar sound is beautiful, warm and perfectly layered, whereas No Line, save for tracks like FEZ, just doesn't have as much life to it, just little riffs milked for all they're worth. There is nothing with the spirit of 'sometimes you can't make it on your own' or 'yahweh', and those that try aren't executed well enough.

Granted they're very different albums, with very different feelings so perhaps I should be grateful for both sides of the spectrum.

That's the first U2 record I had and was fully listening to. And I went into it kind of blind, I thought it was brilliant and just loved the whole thing.

Then I kind of heard about how people thought it was bad and it wasn't very well received by critics, and I was sort of taken aback.

I still think it's fantastic.

mine too, so maybe I'm less critical for that reason, but I can't help but love the whole thing.

Hmm, something recent. I'd say How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb OR All That You Can't Leave Behind.

But you probably already have a bunch of songs from ALYCLB, but that would be my main suggestion. Just check out the tracklistings.

They're both awesome. :)

ATYCLB has so many underrated tracks in it.

Songs like Kite, When I Look At The World and New York are all good.

A-Bomb does have a great flow to it, and yes, it may be more upbeat

However, No Line can't be disregarded as U2's X&Y because it wasn't.

IMO, there isn't a bad U2 record, it's just whichever one you prefer.

I hate how people did not like Pop, because that, was amazing
