thats what i thought but u cant tell until u have heard the whole thing......i didnt like the song when i first heard it at all, but the bootleg KCRW version has totally grown on me and i think its absolutely wicked now. it sounds quite U2 from that measly 15 secs...?

are the drums different from the bootlegs?

speed of sound was my fave on first listen to the kcrw bootleg and still is. as for the u2 reference kimberlina, i totally agree with ya - i thought most of the new stuff sound a bit like both early and later U2.

the drums sound the same to me as what they are in the bootleg. the tempo's a little slower and the hi-hats are further down in the mix so they don't sound quite so trashy.

def think so- but some like square one is not so much u2, maybe a bit more radioheadish i think?..... i find coldplays musical influences v interesting coz u can always hear it in the songs- like when chris was going thru his radiohead obsessive stage in very early coldplay days- you can totally hear that in tracks like brothers and sisters and things like dont panic is in a ref after hitchhikers guide to the galaxy much like radioheads paraniod andriod was....and in parts of arobtth u can hear echo and the bunnymen stylee like in daylight quite like The Cutter etc all their good music taste gets mashed up together to make great songs its cool :cool:

it's not top quality though - i'd expect it to kick more ass when played from the CD on a proper hifi system.

i'm not too up on my radiohead - i've listen to 'em a bit but don't know them that well. i keep meaning to listen to 'em more than i have done but am stuck in a bit of a prog-rock phase at the mo :confused:

yeah, definitely. it gives them there own sound instead of just being radiohead wannabes or u2 wannabes or anyone-else-wannabes. too many new bands being pushed by the system aren't original enough. That's why Coldplay are so massive - they distinctly have their own sound

exactly! yeah check out radiohead- ok computer and the bends are the best...i know people have slagged off the later albums but they are still good just a lot more experimental and random but its worth d/ling pyramid song and stuff and their last one hail to the thief was pretty wicked too.

 

this is what i dont understand when people like keane or travis or whatever get compared to coldplay....yeah i see where people are coming from but it annoys me because coldplay show a much clearer progression in terms of their sound than people like that- you know if u have heard one travis album uve heard them all lets be honest!

i think i downloaded the lot a while ago :sneaky: and listened to them all. but i think i only listened to each one once or twice and probably need to let them grow on me. am happy with experimental music so i may start with the later ones :)

i did like keane for a while and travis for an even briefer moment, but i find them both a bit dull now. people call coldplay miserable but travis are infinitely more miserable, even when they're trying to be happy ! whereas coldplay express emotions far more succesfully and in a way that people can relate to. plus their music is beautiful whereas travis' isn't. and they have quite a bit of variation on there albums and each song as it's own personality.
