I was surprised to see they didn't get a nom for Album of the Year as well. Such crap..

Its weird, i was only thinking earlier what a shame it is that Mariah Carey has gone so shit.....i was listening to 'Fantasy' earlier (ooold schooool! love that song!) and i thinking how great she used to be years ago. Her music now is teeeerrible, and she looks a mess.

grammy noms are crap this year...most of these artists have so much help from other people that they dont write or even help produce any of their songs (mariah for one) she is talented but does not belong in the same class as U2 and coldplay

I can't express how mad i am about them getting 'snubbed' like this, out of the major nominations. i normally could care less about awards or awards shows, but i want Coldplay to be publicly recognized for making such a great album, and when they snub Coldplay seemingly just for the sake of spite, i take it personally. i think it was Chris Martin's own mouth that did them in though. all his talk about wanting to be the next U2, i think that's the only reason they gave so many major nominations to U2, because i really dont think it was much of an album, especially compared to X&Y. that's the only explanation i can think of anyway

chris loves to try and pay respect where respect is due but sometimes what he says comes out sounding awkward and unflattering...its great to aspire to have what U2 has, but to say we want to be bigger than them is a bit rude.

I really don't feel that the "academy" (or who the fuck ever runs these things) who chooses the Nominees care about what Chris says. They just pick the albums that seemed the most commercially successful and give them all the nods. That can be good, and bad. Honestly, I didn't notice a LOT of publicity here in the states for X&Y. Not as much as Kanye West got, that's for sure.

thats true...X&Y was publicised very little in the US compared to people like Kanye and Mariah. the grammys always favor American bands, its always been that way unfortunently...and the categories this year dont make any sense...coldplay belongs in the alternative category

its clear that we both share almost the same views on music. grammys are completely commercial indeed. the so called academy, as far as i know, is the same artists that nominate each other. since x&y wasnt given that much publicity here on the states, i dont expect that kanye and 50 cent have x&y playing on their ipods :stunned: (although they claim chris as an influence) artist only nominate whats popular or whats known to them, i can name probably 10 artists of the top of my head that werent nominated and should have been, sadly, their only sin is to lack popularity or perhaps a lot of songs that are inmediate hits. i do believe that populatity is a form of talent, many songs that have been popular(maily in the 80's) is because they were good, however, that's not always the rule. there are thousands of artist that have truckloads of talent, but have never been recognized.

there are a couple of exeptions, in which a complete pariah in the music world wins(norah jones anyone?) no one knew who she was...yet she won. :confused:

maybe the musical community gave coldplay a chance this time. they are nominated in the rock category, were they always should have been, except in parachutes, but the not biggest chance. they still have lots to recognize from this excellent band.

in my opinion, u2 was only nominated, and i say it sadly, because of bono's character this year. he was up for a nobel prize, and was very active during live 8 and africa related camapings. HTDAB was amazing, but i say it again, i dont see any of the big and popular artists now, buying this album kanye's or 50's album....its just sad, plain sad.
