Last December straight-talking holistic nutritionist Gillian McKeith took on her biggest challenge yet in the shape of fellow Scot and Pop Idol 2 winner, Michelle McManus who, in a bid to lead a healthier lifestyle, agreed to open her life and her kitchen cupboards to the notorious nutritionist's infamous scrutiny.

 

At the time, 22-stone Michelle was a self-confessed convenience food addict and binge-drinker, relying on unhealthy snacks instead of having proper meals, and often skipping meals to save calories for nights out on the town drinking with her friends.

 

Michelle always maintained that being healthy was her focus, not being thin, but at over twice the healthy weight for her height, she realised that to be healthy she must slim down, and called on Gillian for help.

 

Taking her now notorious tough-love approach, Gillian banned Michelle from drinking and replaced the tortilla chips, pizzas, sausages and chips that she used to eat with fresh fruit, vegetables, grains and fish, and incorporated exercise into her daily life.

 

After 5 months under Gillian's watchful guidance Michelle had achieved amazing results, looking and feeling healthier than ever, as well as losing an incredible five stone and dropping four dress sizes.

 

In a 60-minute special, aired on Channel 4, we catch up with Michelle a further six months into her new healthier life.

 

Now, nearly a year after first meeting Gillian, she is healthier than ever, eating sensibly, exercising regularly, and still losing weight at a sensible pace. Since her first meeting with Gillian McKeith in November 2004, Michelle has lost 8 stone, and has dropped from a size 26 to a size 16.
