Featured Replies

A_Northern_Soul, I am just about sick of you insulting me when you make your arrogant little posts. my god i never knew oasis fans were this self absorbed. you call me an idiot, then you proceed to call me narrow minded and a typical american. you don't even know where i'm from. i'm just letting you know, you should guard your loose mouth. i have not insulted you.

a band that does not get radio/tv play doesn't get too far because who's going to listen to them? hmmm? who? i like oasis yet i haven't even seen the lyla video, i only know about the song because chris mentioned it and i then downloaded it, and i've no idea what their other singles are because they don't get played anywhere. i travel for a living, and none of the local rock stations i tune into ever play new oasis tracks. i can see you try to tell yourself that everything in radio sucks, but no, not everything does. and while there may be tons of crap on the radio and telly, every artist/band needs the air time to be remembered. so silly of me to think that was obvious.

thank you.

THANK YOUUUUUUU.

he is nothing but plain ARROGANT.

northern soul, i am willing to look at the arguments you have put forward, but if you're going to be so damn arrogant and incredibly rude, then f___ off.

because no one really cares.

damn straight.

well actually, he's not the only one.

Holy shit! What have I been missing! I've been ignoring this thread because I fucking HATE "Who's the best" threads (AKA: Let's have a bitchfight and see how quickly it can be reduced to mounds of self important posts). But man, was I missing some good drama. No, really, the Golden Globes have been boring and this entertains me!

:dozey: What's the point of these threads? No one cares about what anyone else says! Like, if I said "I think U2 is the best band in the world. The end." I'll just get a bunch of replys telling me how wrong I am. But don't you realise, the key word in that sentence isn't "U2", isn't "think" it's "I". Me. I think that. Therefore: The end. Coldplay, Oasis and Radiohead are not, in my opinion, any of the best bands. Why compare three different bands who have come from different places, have different styles, different personalities, blah blah blah blah blah.

I think it was sort of insulting when whoever said that a certain type of person goes for Radiohead, or U2, here in America. Um. That was just rude. And I did not like that. It made me feel insulted, because I'm a fan of both bands and I don't think I'm fitting into any stereotype. Or maybe I am. Just for my own sake, what types of people are U2 fans to you (whoever made that comment)? Sorry I'm so stuck on this, but yeaaaah.

There are so many great artists and great bands out there. The Arcade Fire is, in my opinion, the best new band in a LONG time. Has anyone mentioned them? The Rolling Stones were pretty huge this past year. It's all relative, people. It's aaaall relative. I would never insult someone's musical tastes, personally. It's just not classy. Musical taste is personal, it reflects back on the person. It'd be so easy for me to say "Yeah, well, Oasis is terrible and I don't hear shit about them so they must suck!" (which I don't think, by the way). Then someone could just hit me with "Yeah well, U2 sucks the big balls so neener neener to you :smug: *feels self important*"

lmfao but whatever. I'm just shit ass bored and needed to ramble about something. Oh look, Gwyn's presenting on the Golden Globes! Yay for Anthony Hopkins, now there's an actor. Damn, his wife's friggin' YOUNG though. Huh. Right, well, that's my cue to shut the hell up.

you have just said everything i WANTED to say but couldn't be bothered to type up.

thank you.

:)

 No problemo

OK, now can we all get back to the original topic? As I've said before, I choose Coldplay.

I thought I was talking about the original topic.............

well, sorta. but i wanna erase about three pages on this topic.....if only i was a mod....

Alright, then my two cents about the original topic (whatever that was to begin with):

I like Coldplay the best. Yay.

a band that does not get radio/tv play doesn't get too far because who's going to listen to them? hmmm? who? i like oasis yet i haven't even seen the lyla video, i only know about the song because chris mentioned it and i then downloaded it, and i've no idea what their other singles are because they don't get played anywhere. i travel for a living, and none of the local rock stations i tune into ever play new oasis tracks. i can see you try to tell yourself that everything in radio sucks, but no, not everything does. and while there may be tons of crap on the radio and telly, every artist/band needs the air time to be remembered. so silly of me to think that was obvious.

I never said that bands sell top spot records w/o airplay. When was that ever the question? I know many who have never seen the videos and never heard them on the radio, i never said there was anything wrong with that. I did state that its obvious that most people are wanks and only listen to whats on their local radio station. who gets the most played has nothing to do with who is the BEST. So your argument is going off topic.

And if you aren't from America, don't speak as If you know a thing or two about american music market and what it all means.

^I think he/she meant that you can't be considered the best if you can't even break into the radio or tv.

lmfao but whatever. I'm just shit ass bored and needed to ramble about something. Oh look' date=' Gwyn's presenting on the Golden Globes! Yay for Anthony Hopkins, now there's an actor. Damn, his wife's friggin' YOUNG though. Huh. Right, well, that's my cue to shut the hell up.[/quote']

Oh I thought the exact same thing! While Anthony was talking they showed her and I thought she was his daughter, until he said something about "my lovely beautiful wife"..

There is no breaking with the American industry. That era is over.

Oasis have before when it was a bit more important. they won't ever be played heavily on TV or anything like that anymore, a lot of quality bands won't. They get radio airplay, played on the telly, etc. But If you don't have a majorly mainstreem sounding album, its not going to happen very well, nowadays.

Honestly, what are you still trying to prove? We got your point already!

Well said an_cat, well said. These threads are stupid anyway, how can you compare these bands with each other? It's rediculous! How can you compare Oasis with a progressive rock band like Radiohead? Same with Coldplay. There so different, I don't see how people can compare or relate those three bands with each other. When you make a thread like this, you're just asking for trouble. Just my opinion.

Exactly, people...

This thread is just to put your opinion OUT there, not to get it raggled up by people who are dead set on their opinion being the only right one! COme on guys, don't insult the decision of others. Just hear/see the opinion out and let it be. NO need for pushes and shoves! :policeman:

and its fact.

Fact: n. A concept whose truth can be proved;

Opinion: n. A personal belief or judgment that is not founded on proof or certainty;

...definitely the latter.

you couldnt buy a number 1 single, face it 90% of your album sales are to wahs and music fans

When did I say sales were not important? Coldplay as a young band still have a lot to prove and I wouldn't say they're the best because it's still too early. If you notice, I haven't said they are.

I'm positive it's not Oasis, I can tell you that much. Recycling material. Changing band members. Lack of a buzz in the states.. they may be huge in the UK still but it seems like outside their fanbase, they've lost it here. I would go with Radiohead or U2, since they have accomplished everything Oasis has AND have managed to not have Americans forget them.. which is hard for alot of international bands. Oasis may sell because of the strong hold they had in the 90's, but you know.. they haven't even won a Grammy. Something Coldplay did on their first album. It speaks volumes how much more appreciated Coldplay seems to be here, compared to Oasis.

I wouldn't give the "best" position to Coldplay because they're so young and the same thing that has happened to Oasis can to them as well. But they very well could be the best. They progress with every album, sales-wise, hype wise.. they've improved their skills with instruments, they perform better. It's all there.

I don't see your "they're struggling to sell tickets" point. If anything, they keep adding more tour dates and more radio shows and programs and it seems like the demand is more. They certainly wouldn't be adding if it were going badly for them.

As for your sales question, X&Y debuted here at #1, U2's HTDAAB debuted at #1 (sold more than Coldplay) and Don't Believe the Truth debuted at #12.

As of now, Coldplay are the biggest selling artist of albums, but not of singles or tours (which they have trouble selling one gig out, let alone full tours) of which are all included, even the reviews (other than Q and NME) of their new album have been midling, but then again, you probably don`t care about that either when it goes against what you`ve decided in your mind.

It's not what I've decided in my mind, it's what I see. There were bad reviews, yet X&Y is still selling magnificently. By the way, If you're the biggest selling artist, most people would say you're on top right now. I don't understand what's so hard to grasp about that. Tour and Singles sales aren't very accounted for, Coldplay isn't a "singles" band and they've said that themselves many times. They're an albums band. That means a lot more (to me) than singles any day of the week.

oasis never tried to make it in the states for one simple FACT, they didnt need to. just the echos from fuckin england caused a stir over there.

did they promote? did they work solid to tour and promote. tell me if they did

Excuse me, but I did say that neither was a bad band. I have enjoy each band actually.

And whats this about americans not liking bands from other countries? you're an idiot, read what I said, "ARROGANT"

You enjoy both bands yet you say that RH is for "Indie 'I think I'm intelligent' kids in America" and then go on to say that U2 is for "whoever is into that". Excuse me for daring to assume you didn't think much them.

Americans don't like anyone who isn't from their country who happen to be quite arrogant.

So with this you're saying that Americans don't like Oasis because they're not American and because they're arrogant? Pretty pointless thing to say but uhm, yeah..sure, whatever you think.

not really because all you pointless irrelevant waste of a life cocks have your heads stuffed so far up your own arse its unbelievable
