I'm just getting into guitar as well...the crazy letter/number pedal names confuse the hell out of me. What brand guitar does Jonny use? And if I'm just starting out, what kind of pedals and other equipment should I look for to get the Coldplay sound? Hopefully I can find a good place to get it all and figure out how it all works... :embarrased:

Basically, there are few main types of pedals

wah wah

distortion

delay

etc..

the names are quite self explanatory. To me though, it's really the guitar itself that makes the difference in the sound.

If you are just starting out, Zoom 505 is a good multi effects pedal to begin with. And the price is quite reasonable.

Buckland mostly uses the Fender Telecaster. You'll be able to get most of his sounds on a telecaster. But be aware, if you are just starting out, the teles might be too costly for you, so look around, check the prices and know your own limitations, as a beginner doesn't really need an outstanding guitar

I'd say a Squire Stratocaster would be a good starter for any beginners.
