did he ever leave? didnt his last album american gangster come out like 18 months ago?

"for on September 11th, 2001 the world was rocked by the release of the original Blueprint"

fucking nob head.

Me too

But then again these rap-stars always 'retire' but come back a few years later with a new album

About him "retiring" I heard him say on an interview....

"I said I was retiring not that wasn't gonna open my mouth again"

At least he is back :D:D:D:D

I actually listened to Jay-z when I was a kid (like 6 or 7) because my big sister would listen to his music alot. I knew like every song "hard knock life" "big pimpin'"..you name it :P:P:P:P

Then like at 10 when I got into my own music I got(and still am) into Coldplay.

And then *poof* Jay-z and Coldplay have mingled. My favorite rapper and band :D:D:D

I just thought that was a cool coincidence. even though I don't really dig the Jay version of Lost+ :P:P:P

i was watching a jay-z concert on youtube the other night and i surprised at how many songs i knew even though im not exactly a fan. he is easily one of the best rappers ever and he has been pretty consistent for over a decade now whereas most of those rappers from the 90s have either gone all pop (Eminem) or dissapeared all together.

HANDS UP & WAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heard "Run This Town" today, it is catchy as hell man. Kanye knocked that beat out the park. His verse is damn awesome too.

Rihanna just rips that hook apart.

Jay-Z is classic and relaxed as always. This song saved Jay-Z. Cant wait to see him again this coming year!

aussie singer Luke Steele of Empire of the Sun fame will feature on the opening track.

Not for me.

i will listen to it this weekend. dont expect much. he is past his best.

l love listenin to Jay-z music. most of his songs has that jazz-ey feel in it. Brooklyn Go Hard, I'm Feelin' It, Izzo(H.O.V.A), Jigga what/Jigga Who(live), Show Me What You've Got are some of the best.

the man has made alot of great hits. most durable rap artist of all time. which isnt that hard to be, 5years is a pretty good effort.

Jay-Z: 'My new book will show that rap is poetry'

Rapper explains that 'Decoded' will show the 'social and political' thought behind rap music

Jay-Z has revealed that his new book will show that "rap is really poetry".

The rapper, who releases Decoded on November 16, explained that his book will look at the social and political thought behind rap music.

"[i want to show] that rap is really poetry," he told MTV. "It's not just a bunch of guys putting rhyming words together."

"There's thought behind it and there's cleverness and there's inspiration," he continued. "There's social reason and there's political reason and there's angst and there's anger and all these different things inside music."

Jay-Z also goes on to say that the genre can often be misunderstood and that some people don't realise the "depth behind the writing".

"For the casual listener - people who don't listen to rap - what they do is listen for buzz words," he said. "So if somebody say 'bitch' or somebody say one of those buzz words, it's like, 'Aw, there they go again.' But they don't realise the depth behind the writing."

Jay-Z will release 'The Hits Collection Volume 1' on November 23, plus will perform alongside Coldplay at a New Year's Eve show in Las Vegas.

Jay-Z Decoded book reveals the life behind the lyrics

_50033283_getty_book_jayz.jpg

Jay-Z says his debut book Decoded, released in the UK this week, is a book of many layers.

Instead of writing a regular autobiography, the rapper explains the meaning behind his lyrics as a way to tell the tale of his rise to megastar.

The book also features plenty of photos and private thoughts on his career so far.

He said: "It's a bit of memoirs versus breakdown of lyrics, versus socio-economics. It's all these layers.

"I used stories of things that I went through growing up to lead to these songs."

'Rap is poetry'

The star, reportedly worth about worth £280m, has plenty of experiences to talk about, from being abandoned by his father, to becoming a drug dealer and surviving an attempt on his life.

He admitted that one of the biggest challenges was actually remembering the lyrics.

Many are years old and the star didn't write them down.

He says the process of decoding some of his old lines was a strange experience, but good fun.

The rapper's also imprinted his unique style on the book's marketing campaign.

All 305 pages were hidden, in a scavenger hunt style, around 200 locations important to his life story.

The person who eventually pieces together all the clues will get entry to every Jay-Z show on earth for the rest of their lives.

The 40-year-old, who's recently been in the UK recording an album with Kanye West, also says he wants his book to reveal the beauty of hip hop.

Decoded goes on sale in the UK on 18 November.
