I don't think it's just an American thing, it depends on the person! Most of my friends aren't into U2, but then again they aren't into Coldplay either. The U2 love thing is just what happens when a band has been around for that long and you have a preference for them because of that and because they were such breakthrough artists in their earlier days. They're not breaking any new ground now, but a lot people still act as if they do.

 

It really sucks because if U2 had made X&Y and Coldplay had made HTDAAB, the Grammy results would've probably been the same. Artist preference wins over actual records, now. I don't know why I bother watching.
