Grammy's 2006

Featured Replies

But you can understand why we'd be upset if an non-deserving album won every single category right? Not to mention that U2 already won 2 last year! It's very disappointing, from a Coldplay fan's perspective. And I would've much rathered seeing Kanye or Arcade Fire win over U2. Those albums were actually pretty deserving.

Please don't be upset over what we wrote here, give us a little break. We're in mourning!

I'm a Coldplay fan too... Don't forget that. ;) I'm one of you guys, I was fucking pissed off when I saw that U2 and Coldplay were nominated in every category, because I knew this was going to happen.

I'm not upset (only about that stupid joke, that did upset me a bit) about anything written here, obviously. I like a little bit of drama. :wink3:

I think Coldplay has a lot more proving themselves to go through before they get any of these big awards. The people who are voting aren't really voting for the album, per se, but really the band name attatched. I admit to that, yeah, U2 won because they're U2. If U2 didn't win, then Coldplay should. And if Coldplay didn't win, then U2 should. I mean, they're practically the same band...

The Grammys don't mean anything, I'm sure it's not going to mess up Coldplay's tour schedule, and I think that's what's really going on in the guy's lives. As it rightfully should. Industry doesn't matter, only us fans.

^ Which is interesting that you say that, because I observed, after watching all the award show performances I have on my computer (Yes, even the 2003 Grammy performance) was how the band doesn't perform NEARLY as well compared to when they're in front of their fans.

When it's for the industry it's all very... business as usual. You know?

They feed off the fans. As they should. They shouldn't feed off the industry.

Please don't leave an_cat. We're bitter, spoiled Coldplay fans and are morning the loss of something we thought for sure would be ours. But you're one of the funniest members on this board and it wouldn't be quite as interesting without you. :)

Exactly! And I could um.. I could put all my U2 cd's back at the top of my stack? Well, .. maybe somewhere in the middle..

Oh, the performances for fans are always the best. It's too bad that a lot of people poo poo award show performances (not talking about U2 here, talking mainly about Coldplay). The guys can't feed off an audiences emotions, they've only got about 4 rows of people who don't even know who they are who were hired strictly to scream and yell and pretend they know what's going on. It's mildly depressing. I never enjoy the performances I see, no matter who it is. It's all so phony and boring... :snore: But that's the Grammys, they're supposed to suck SOMEHOW  And if the band's good, and they're getting the audience up, someone will screw up the sound system and ruin it. Just incase.

Aw no, I won't leave. I was just a bit upset from some other things I was reading in other places (not even here, mostly LJ and hearing things at school, etc etc). So I've been bitter and defensive this afternoon. I don't know whether to be happy or sad, so I have a hard time reacting to these threads. :( It's a difficult predicament I'm in!!

Thank you for that compliment, you're a sweetheart

It's no problem.

But I can understand what you're feeling though. We Coldplay fans get a hard time for being... well... Coldplay fans. And it really is quite fusterating, because you invest so much (Emotionally and financially) into this band that you love to the ends of the earth and people are constantly tearing it down.

And the joke about U2 dying WAS uncalled for. I remember me and my sister were watching a show about John Lennon's death and she turns to me and says "What if that was Chris?" I was very close to crying just at the distant thought. U2 is obviously very important to you and it's understandable that'd you react like that.

Personally, I think it says enough when Kelly Clarkson, a God damned American Idol beats out PAUL MCCARTNEY.

Need I go on?

But... yeah. They're both amazing bands who were at a lousey awards show.

The end.

We should just make our own big production awards show where fans are invited and all nominees perform great for us and win. Pwn.

Thank you for understanding! It means a lot. Believe me, I know how tough it is to fight for Coldplay to be respected  I remember when they played the Grammys in '03 (whenever they played Politik...) and I came in the next day to school, everyone was making fun of them. Calling them really stupid and lame. I was kind of embaressed for loving them so much. It's amazing how much it's changed...

Hasn't Coldplay been in the Best Alternative category for the past two albums, and this is their first time in the "rock" category?

Oh man... Kelly Clarkson winning, wasn't that pathetic? I feel bad having voted for her on American Idol. If I'd have known she'd be beating Paul one day... Ah. I was young and impressionable!!!!!!!! It's not my fault! SATAN MADE ME DIAL THOSE NUMBERS! :bigcry:

Or, they feel nervous and intimidated. That used to happen to me when I had to do my music exams. I always felt intimidated by the examiner because, they knew the music inside and out and were 'experts'. I'm sure that hold Coldplay feel when they amongst their peers/betters.

I'd poop my pants!!!!!!!!!

I'd just be like:

*walks out on stage*

*sees U2 and Coldplay sitting there, watching with beady eyes*

*poops pants*

....

Yes. That is exactly what would happen.

^ couldn't have said it better myself.

i think the fact that we put up w/ the crap for being fans of coldplay makes us better fans bc we truly believe in them and their music. i get it from my friends all the time and i'm just like "up yours! i'm not sitting around crying my eyes out listening to emo shit" (no offense to anyone who listens to that genre btw)

the grammys were disappointing last night. the music industry's perspective on what good talent is is tanking. there were some well deserved awards though, like U2 and john legend.

ok that's my take and im outttttttt :P

I would've liked if they shot to some of the other artists after Coldplay's performance. Just to see their reaction, to get a feel for what they thought. I know with the 2003 performance, they shoot to Godsmack right after, and you can read one the guys lips, he says "That was awesome, wasn't it?" and his band member next to him nods. It has nothing to do with the actual performance but love that part. (Even though I probably can't tell you not one song from Godsmack but who cares!)

¨^^yeah and if coldplay were to lose then I'm glad they lost to U2 and not f*cking green day, or some other shite like that

Aw' date=' don't misunderstand an_cat. U2 is great band (I really do love them..just not right now!) but I don't see how HTDAAB was such a ground breaking album to snag every category. I mean, U2 themselves were surprised. I can't understand how Coldplay (or any other well deserving band) was completely shut out over a good but not but in any way mind-blowing album.[/quote']

because none of them (and I only saw the end so 'best album') were particularly good or ground breaking. I'd still have picked HTDAAB over X&Y any day of the week, yet I'd call niether particularly inspired.

I never said that the rest of the songs/albums were ground breaking. What I'm saying is that your album very well should be, if you're going to sweep the floor and snag every Grammy. See how you said it's not particularly inspiring? It should be if it's going win every category it's up in, is what I'm trying to say.

It's a shame that artists like Bloc Party, Arcade Fire, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand got shut out over album like HTDAAB. If it were an album on Achtung, Baby's level or something, I would keep my trap shut. It's just such a disappointment.. but, I'm starting to get over it finally.. lol.

(Funeral are earlier 2004 albums that would have been eligable last year.)

None of that stuff that you mentioned (possibly except for Arcade Fire) is particularly inspired or interesting. Even with respects to the Arcade Fire, I don't see their album as a stunner, more a sign of great potential for the future. One of the problems is, last year seemed a particularly unimpressive year for music (my favourite albums of the year were Open Season by British Sea Power and the sadly disbanded 22-20s' debut but they're still only 8/10s at best) and they have to give the award to someone.

HTDAAB isn't a great but its quite possibly the best of the last year. I thought you were annoyed that U2 had beaten Coldplay, not just won in general, so my last reply was unaware of this.

In summary: Taking all names and histories aside, and just judging the albums by their music (pretend each was by a new debut artist), I reckon I'd pick HTDAAB over most of last year's crop.

Here's to a better year musically than the last!

its just annoying because U2 won for album of the year AND best rock album. do they really need both of those? i mean, coldplay's X&Y was a respectable contender and to give it someone who is just gonna get the same thing but in a bigger and more received category is a lil ludicrous. Even the Foo Fighters had a decent album... its just plain frustraing :stunned:

I agree completely. Okay, so give U2 the Best Album award... but give them Best Rock Album too? Come on. Especially considering HTDAAB was released in 2004!

No I like U2 and I certainly didn't want them to leave empty handed. But to give them every Grammy they were up for, it's highly exaggerated. I would not call HTDAAB the best 2005 album for a long shot (most of tracks on there sound like songs that could easily be in All That You Can't Leave Behind) but hey your mileage can vary. I found Arcade Fire and the Franz boys' music very refreshing last year, both with great albums that should've gotten some recognition.

But what's done is done.. though I don't know if I'll be watching the Grammy's again. 3 hours I'll never get back..

Am I the only one who see this as a matter of coherence  if they won for best album, then it should also be at least the best in their category, which is rock

this is absolutely true victaniac, I thought the same...

Is it a bit hypocritical of everyone here to be insulting U2 for winning SOOOO many awards, for hogging all the Grammys, whereas if it were COLDPLAY nominated in all these categories we'd love to see them win everything? Hell, I have a feeling people would be complaining that they didn't get a Grammy for best rap album, just so they could get more.

Yep. I just quoted myself.
