Does anyone understand "See You Soon"?

Featured Replies

Does anyone understand the lyrics to "See You Soon" or "Sleeping Sun"? "See You Soon" is one of my favorite Coldplay songs, and I love the lyrics, but I have no clue what they mean. Anyone want to help me out?

first of all ... i think that everyone of us should give their fancy full scope when it come to coldplay's lyrics

so ... this is just my very own interpretation

See You Soon

i think it's about a person that just wants to give up everything. someone who is sick of their everyday life, someone who just wants to break free somehow. and the singer is trying to comfort that person by promising to be back again soon. (my explanation kinda sounds abstract...)

Sleeping Sun

i have no clue what that song is about ...:D

I love See You Soon! I can't stop listening to it.. I had been listening to it today almost all day.. I even have several mp3s... some from live shows. I love the song.

To me it's a sad song.. it's about the world ending (persay) or meeting your end and everything is falling apart and you start falling apart and start losing faith and losing your trust in yourself (someone's who is not confident anymore and is basically lost and careless) and is trying to hold on to that someone..but that other someone only wants to be friends. They took that person by force and is gonna be killed or is dying by a disease and he is basically saying that he is gonna save that person...somehow and that he'll see them soon.

But for some reason.. when I listen to this song.. it takes me to a farm. Two teenages and the girl's parents take her to another place and she tells him that she just wants to be friends and blabalabla. He tells her that he'll see her soon but knows it's not true and never see each other ever again. :)

^^That sounds so sad  I still love it :P

yea, that sounds about right to me. Thanks!! But sleeping sun always makes me think of a farm for some reason, as does No More Keeping My Feet on the Ground. Thanks!

My interpretation

I think it's about someone who's been put out of reach because of some inteferers, (who snap at the heels). I think this has something to do with trust, so perhaps it was someone who Chris (or someone else) was trying to get close to before the disturbance. And I think this has strengthened the barriers, some intangeable, which stop any access to the person.

Anyone else think this is viable?

I had never heard See You Soon before I was bought the Coldplay Live 2003 DVD for my birthday (I am a relatively new Coldplay addict!). I can't say I have really thought that much about the lyrics yet, but was bowled over by how beautiful the song was. Just mesmerising. In fact, the whole DVD made me love songs that I previously hadn't liked that much such as God Put a Smile Upon Your Face. I also hadn't heard Moses before and thought it was brilliant.

Now I just need to wean myself off watching part of the DVD every day!:)

Yea I think God put a smile is my favortite live song from coldplay. The end is just insane, with jonny and chris going all out on their guitars and chris screaming "as good as miiiiinnneeee!" Just awesome. Oh, and what I get out of See you soon is that someone has lost trust in someone else, and doesnt want to go out and face the world. They are just in their room/house with the windows all closed. They are lonely, and just want their friend, but maybe its those friends they lost trust in. Maybe this persons good friend (Chris) is saying, I'll see you soon because he has to leave for a while.

This may be too literal an interpretation, but I always thought see you soon was about being on tour and being like, fawned over by lots of people, but constantly thinking of someone and wanting to see them. At least, that's what the chorus makes me think of.

Wow, you've seriously just described me.

I'm not gonna write what I think, you know, every line is about, coz I'd most probably be wrong and stuff. So I'll just say what I think one line means.

"In a bulletproof vest, with the windows all closed.." You're shut away and just trying not to get hurt again.

See You Soon = most beautiful song ever. The end.

dats teh beauty bout muzik (:D) a song will mean different things to everyone.

see you soon - about being under the microscope and the separation from family and friends.

sleeping sun - no clue

I think Sleeping Sun may have something to do with keeping public and private life seterate, and the pressures that go with that...just a sense I have...but I could be totally Whacked on this.

well i think the meaning of see you soon is very literal. basically, this girl 'loses her trust' and wants to 'just be friends' and the guy is distraught so takes to being a bit weird and stalkerish - 'through a telescope lens.., i'll see you soon'. listen to it and it all fits perfectly. OR like in high school poetry appreciation we secretly think the lyrics actually mean jack shit and are only there cause they fit well together. as we'll all admit, mr martin isnt famed as the most talented lyricist.. ta

I agree 100% with FixYouExtra

See You Soon = most beautiful song ever. The end.

I agree!

Sleeping Sun's also great...

You've all discribed See You Soon so well, so I won't write anything concerning it...

But Sleeping Sun...I think it's about jelaousy...

Do you agree?

When you've got secret...I've got ONLY the sleeping sun (AKA nothing)...

But things are not so simple...that jelaousy turns in something much more...they unite...no more running alone...

Not in a literal way... The words all fit and make sense, just not in any logical manner. It all just feels right, and the whole song just belongs.

I can't explain what the song's about, except that it brings you somewhere safe, and comfortable, and just reaches that space where everything is right

Sleeping Sun is so gorgeous. A little ray of gold light in a dark day for me, that song is. =)

No, I don't really understand the lyrics for either, but it's fun to just listen to them anyways.
