There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998

This one was interesting...

London Telegraph | April 10 2006

For many years now, human-caused climate change has been viewed as a large and urgent problem. In truth, however, the biggest part of the problem is neither environmental nor scientific, but a self-created political fiasco. Consider the simple fact, drawn from the official temperature records of the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, that for the years 1998-2005 global average temperature did not increase (there was actually a slight decrease, though not at a rate that differs significantly from zero).

Yes, you did read that right. And also, yes, this eight-year period of temperature stasis did coincide with society's continued power station and SUV-inspired pumping of yet more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

In response to these facts, a global warming devotee will chuckle and say "how silly to judge climate change over such a short period". Yet in the next breath, the same person will assure you that the 28-year-long period of warming which occurred between 1970 and 1998 constitutes a dangerous (and man-made) warming. Tosh. Our devotee will also pass by the curious additional facts that a period of similar warming occurred between 1918 and 1940, well prior to the greatest phase of world industrialisation, and that cooling occurred between 1940 and 1965, at precisely the time that human emissions were increasing at their greatest rate.

Does something not strike you as odd here? That industrial carbon dioxide is not the primary cause of earth's recent decadal-scale temperature changes doesn't seem at all odd to many thousands of independent scientists. They have long appreciated - ever since the early 1990s, when the global warming bandwagon first started to roll behind the gravy train of the UN Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - that such short-term climate fluctuations are chiefly of natural origin. Yet the public appears to be largely convinced otherwise. How is this possible?

Well...if i got this right now this mean that there actually is no gloabl warming anymore....

My dad had a theory....he also said that there is no global wamring anymore....at least not in Germany (haha).....in some places we still have winter here....which is not normal for april in germany...

I really worry about world weather now. It's a middle of april and usually in Russia we've got about +7 and sunny weather, well, it was, but yesterday after very sunny and even warm morning there was snowing.....And not just snow-it was huge snow, like big pieces of cotton wool were falling from the sky.....It scared me a bit.

It's the same here in Germany....we had such a long and hard winter....I hope this won't be the new habbit of the weather!

I have a question? can the damage of global warming be undone?

interesting article...but i still have fears that we'll have huge preoblems with global warming in the future

Radiohead's Idioteque describes this situation perfectly:

It can be seen as a three-person conversation. One is an environmentalist who is concerned about the issue. He has lines such as "Ice age coming" and "We're not scaremongering / This is really happening" (the latter refers to the number of people who dismiss the issue of global warming, saying it is not really happening at all). The second person is a typical politician/citizen, who is not aware of the issue and therefore dismisses it entirely. He has lines such as "Here I'm allowed / Everything all the time" (referring to the Earth's resources) and "I'll laugh until my head comes off". The third person appears to be someone caught in between and is undecided whether to believe either one of the first two. He says "Let me hear both sides".

lol.

you dont know how suprised i was by this article. i thought for sure you would be believe in global warming caused by humans and the goverments or something.

i saw a article about the glaciers and how they melt and refreeze every 70 to 80 years. but i cant find the article anymore but ill search for it.

I have a question? can the damage of global warming be undone?

yes, becuase its the natural process of the earth. it heats up then cools down over many years. humans didnt cause global warming.

interesting article.

To trump some cynicism, the earth's orbit gets closer to the sun. Therefore, global warming is very real regardless of how our politicians and media report information about it. Try to find reports by astrophysicists hard at work on making our planet last as long as it can instead of ignorant politicians and media that undoubtedly refuse to report the most detrimental facts about our planet to keep people from worrying (you saw how we acted with Y2K; what do you think would happen if the news started to report that the sun will eventually sublime everything on Earth--that is, unless we can knock our orbit away from the sun a bit). As far as a next ice age, I'm not up-to-date on which of two things will happen: the melting ice coming down to the oceans and freezing them, or the sun just completely melting the ice and making the oceans take over land. I'm not sure, but I believe the trend is that the ice is just completely melting at alarming rates. Either way, what little humans do to contribute to global warming is absolutely null. Global warming is simply what happens to certain planets in solar systems.

in australia the temperatures just seem to get hotter and hotter, just this past summer we've experienced heat up to 40 degreees before lunchtime!!!!!!! the winters are getting hotter as well. apparently theres a hole in the ozone layer that sits above or near australia so that could contribute maybe????

i dont know about the whole global warming issue, but that article was pretty interesting...im sure there would be some scientists who would argue it.

something definitely is going on with the climates... I mean how ele can we explain the erratic behavior of weather??

  • Author

Yeah....I think we all can notice the change. It's been the first time (I think) that it's became apparent to everyone that there is such erratic conditions.

I'm just wondering if it's like "jamus" described.....and the artical I posted offers an alternative view.

BUT even if global warming isn't all down our industrial ways...I think the effect it can have on human health (as well as wildlife) is also a good reason for us all to became a bit more environmentally conscious.

definitely.... and yet the enviroment is always last on everyone's list..

The Enhanced Greenhouse Effect is a natural process and it has happened before in the past without humans.

Earths natural process. the climate and weather changes over time. its all nature not humans doing this.
