Are your friends on here just as important as real life ones?

Featured Replies

Yet another Julia inspired thread, after her 'Does this place here have any effect on your real life?' thread.

Try not to hurt anyone on here but try to be honest now, do you view the people on here that are your friends as being just as important as those in real life?

Its a bit of a tricky thing with me. It used to be that the answer was simply no, real life friends obviously were more important, and then I realised its a bit more complicated then that.

There are those friends that you may not know quite as well, you still like seeing them and talking to them, but they arent close friends. These people are pretty much the same importance level to me, if I see Dave from football training around I'll talk to him and its just as important as seeing someone on here, pretty much.

But those friends you are close with, I'm sorry, thats different. There have been quite a few people on here I've become close with, but sorry to say, they just cant quite compete with real life friends. When I NEED to talk to someone, I dont log onto Coldplaying or MSN, its just not the same.

So that makes sense, thanks for listening.

Hmmm, that's an interesting question! :nice:

I must say that some of them are really very, very, very important to me...Like some friends in the real life...I met wonderful people here that I'd give all the money in the world to meet them personally...I can't imagine myself without this place anymore..It's just like home... :nice:

I'd think its a bit unfair to compare the two.. I mean, they are on two completely different mediums...

I think the online friends are special because its a 'written' relationship... like the pen pal's of yore... so, you have that perception factor of wondering what they are really like in person, and if you haven't seen what they look like, you have that factor of mystery as well... but, as for the actual friendships.. I think they are just as special to a certain extent. The physical nature of a relationship/friendship is important.. but I know that I have made some great friends online and I know I can confide in them just as I would offline friends.. and they have been just as supportive....

I can't say that when something is pressing and extremely personal that I go running to msn either lol but, you know what.... they're still friends.. no matter what.

oh !! happy B' day berrywoman * sorry i dont know ur name

well happy B'day hope u have a great day :D

I think if you talked to someone on MSN/ Coldplaying for 50 years....you still wouldn't know what to say when you met them. To physically meet someone cant compare to writing on MSN. I have friends here and on MSN and....if I met in person we might become good friends...but just talking on Coldplaying...hmmmm...I dont know how to finish this. Ah well...its unfinished. :blank:

^ perhaps it depends on you as a person...... I have met people to whom I have spoke to online for years and then met them in person.. granted its weird at first.. because they are now real and tangible.... but its the same. When you break it down and slice it.. its the same.

oh and thank you for the bday wishes everyone :nice:

Well, I suppose Ive never experienced the...experience of meeting someone from the internet...so I dont really know.

it's just like real life.. there's friends and there's no friends... but I don't know if so important as the real life ones.. it's totally different... I guess one or two of here are really important for me... I don't know if as a real friend.. but they're important..

a lot

No they aren't....except for mooseheadsfan because we are best buds in real life.

really??

I will tell them haha, I think they are too cool for forums.

they're so busy to post here.. hahahhaa

well i'm busy too but I'm really addict to this place so

Yeah, I can't picture any of them posting here.

me neither

Too cool for forums? wow! :P

Maybe they could just a take a look here and then they would like coldplaying... :nice:

And Lore, you indeed are addicted... :laugh3:

Bye bye, Lore and sniggirb...i'm off now...have you both a great night and sweet dreams!

bye hun!

cya later....actually one of them might visit...i'll ask him sometime.,

In the end, a real life friend is someone you can tacklehug if you really need to, so in that way, real life friends kind of win out, although I have known people who have had really close meaningful friendships online.

But like sniggirb my real life best friend is autumnjoy, who is the one who got me addicted to this board in the first place, so that kind of cancels out the question for me, I guess.

I've met online friends in real life before. It's weird, because you aren't used to their voice or gestures or anything yet, but it's like you've known them all your life. Within minutes we fell into being old friends- no akwardness. But over time, it was like getting to know a new person after all, because their online persona was only one facet of who they were, and the other sides came out eventually.

There are some ppl around here that i think are really important to me now, but overall, my REAL friends are more important. No matter how much i talk to ppl here, my real friends are the ppl that will be able to be with me if something happens, that knows me well enough, that i have memories with...

But i also consider some ppl from here as really good friends and trust them too...

Well, not many friends I have in real life.Actually, I don't have any.Just some people I can chat with.So I don't know how to answer.
