When do you know if you have a problem?

Featured Replies

This is a question usually referred to with alcahol or drugs, but it can apply to anything, for example gaining lots of weight.

Has anyone had any addictions they had to fight to overcome? Coffee? Cocaine? Chocolate?

It hurts when other people judge you, sometimes even if its your best of friends, it just hurts.

I know I have a problem with drugs, the thing is, I dont really care. Still, when I was first doing it, it was hard when my friend, even though I asked, said that Ive developed a really bad problem. It is hard to admit to yourself something that in your heart, you know (or think) it isnt true, but I guess thats when you have to trust someone.

You know you have a problem/addiction when your day revolves around it, in my opinion. Ive never really had one...so I suppose people with experiencs would have more knowledge. I know some people with drug addictions and they look and act normal enough, but I know they're hiding it inside.

I'm addicted to work... I work way too much!!!

Yeah I hide mine awesomely, people usually just think I'm being crazy or over-hyper haha.

Some other people I know are just falling apart though, its pretty obvious to everyone.

i think sometimes there really has to be somebody else who tells you, that you actually have that problem. for example i wanted to lose weight for quite a long time, but i started with a diet after some friend told me that i have gained weight.

it can hurt, but sometimes it helps you a lot if someone else tells you that you do have a problem.

Either when...

Someone really importan tto me says so. That usually hits me quite hard....

Or if I do something and then in hindsight think about it. Like... I have thoughts like that... "Why oh why did you do that Jack?" kind of thoughts.

Thats when I know I need to change somethin.

ohhh problem like, addiction?

in this world, some people are good with self-evaluations...and when they see themselves doing something excessively...they pick it out right quick and fix it

this is a rare case

most, not even when told by others, see a problem.

or they think it's norm

me?

i go for the later?

annnnd my only REAL addiction is chicle (gum)

i have to have it and will go waaay outta my way to get it to! stealing? maybe!

^I think that's true.

well, addictions? erm, not really just coffee :P

and I know people who had addictions, but now they are over it (drugs&alcohol)

I guess my biggest problem in life was my anxiety. I think I realized it when I noticed it absolutely CONTROLLING my life. That was when I went to Europe and started having panic attacks constantly thinking about the littlest things. I knew I needed help then.

What was bad about that was it triggered a lot of other things in me, like excessive eating. I've gained a lot of weight in the past 2 years. Now that I've got my anxiety and depression all under control I'm going to start working on that. :) I've got this crazy awesome kick boxing DVD and it's fun. LMFAO

And I think I've got an addiction to the internet, but that's not a PROBLEM, is it?!

it is if you skip out on some stuff...like you have before (when you had to write that paper and you just couldnt tear yourself away from the net)

is it a problem to be addicted to SOMEONE? :uhoh:

what about physical things?, as in doing things to yourself, not bad things, pleasuring things :sneaky:

If you know you're falling apart Reilly why don't you do something about it? You say you don't care, but you must do just a little bit otherwise you wouldn't have made this thread! :(

Me? I guess I have a problem with eating...I see it as a luxury and not a necessity. I do eat though...because I know I must, but I find it hard and often skip meals. Then I'll get hungry and binge and spend the next day eating grapes. It's weird. And stupid, I know.

I don't have addictions as such but i do have cravings!

I dont think I'm falling apart, but other people I know who do the same drugs are, thats what I wrote.

I think I have a weird kind of addiction, because I want it, its bad for me, but I still feel I could stop at any time and I simply dont want to. Its not destroying my health for the moment, its not making me feel ill all of the time, and once it starts doing that, I'll stop.

Of course I'm a little concerned about myself but I think I'm ok for the time being, thanks for the concern Mimi :nice:
