When, in your opinion is it acceptable to write like this, if ever?

This 'txt' writing originated in text messages, but now people use it in e-mails, sometimes in this forum, and even in essays and writing compositions.

Im against it. I agree, in a text message..when your in a hurry its ok..but to use it in e-mails and writing essays or letter, is too far. Not only does it destroy whatever knowledge of grammer and spelling children have...it looks wrong!

i only do it when the person has limited space on their text messages, if not i switch to normal

I'm also against it...I don't even understand it in german...how should i understand it in english then?

i don't like it although my cousin (who lives in the us) is always writing like that in text messages and it's not even that she doesn't have the space +_+

:uhoh: I think it's best if I stay out of this conversation.... :stunned:

(I already got in trouble for correcting txt spk.... But that's resolved, thankfully)

I don't get the big deal  it's annoying when someone uses it all the time to be cool but what's the point in worrying about the way people type? it shouldn't matter unless they're getting hired or something and they have to be a professional or something

I think it's just really, really, INCREDIBLY annoying when you end up having to translate your own language.

It just makes me feel really unintelligent even reading it.... i luv u s00oOo0o0o mcuh!!#211111

Imagine how is that for people who doen't speak english as first language... I hate to try to translate first all these txt things and then translate it into spanish

I dont like it, I find it annoying, if you can type a word, then type it

I think I can understand that, maybe I don't have a problem because I understand it

sympathy

It is never acceptable, unless you have only one arm, then maybe it is forgiveable.......

My friends type like that all the time. One person I knew even started to put "LOL!" and "^_^" signs in her journal assignments at school. :laugh4:

I guess I'm used to it, but when I come across a MySpace I can actually read smoothly, it's a relief!

It makes me shout out loud in my mind,

SAY WHAT?

I dont like it' date=' I find it annoying, if you can type a word, then type it[/quote']

I with that.

it's an insult to the english language.

people who speak/write like that are not worthy to speak/write such a beautiful language.

there's so much filth being filtrated into the language through text speak and chat speak and internet chatting... it's disgusting.

When i text i write my words in full, even though i can see why people do it...

  • 1 year later...

Wow,calm down andrea...

  • 2 weeks later...

i do use short forms like LOL, IMO and so on, but i always try to write the word properly, and i don't like encrypted txt messages and everything else with that kind of writing.

its a pain in the ass to figure out, that took me a minute or too to figure out what your saying

i always write it completely... if i use short forms as for the ones we all already know... (like k---que (what) (in spanish).. but it drives me mad when my cousins sent me a sms... it take me lot of time get what they say....

i find it quite annoying in whatever language is....

if we keep doing it, then nobody would understand anything... you know, once you get used to it, you won't understand other kinds of texts (novels...)...

i hate those people.. they seem to me that they can't use the keyboard well. i understand it in text messages, but i don't think it's necessary to write like that also on the forums and such.
