E-bow

Featured Replies

Hey, have anyone heard of the "e-bow" that jonny uses in some of Coldplay songs...

it's a pretty groovy little thing, except i dont know that much about it, and i was wondering whether anyone had any specific information about jonny's ebow, or whether they are all basically the same...

Thanks

Well, to my knowlege, they're all pretty much the same. I suppose there are different ones, but I'm not an expert on guitars. But the E-bow makes an awesome effect. It's also the name of an awesome Sigur rós song. Ore rather... the "nickname". :)

O, ok , cool thanks...i think that ebow makes the best sound ever, except they are rather expensive....

I used to have one and they are really good to experiment with. Mine cost me £65 delivered. If you want to recreate Amsterdam on Live 2003 or others then go for it. Really fun!

I got one for my birthday and it's fun as hell. They are all the same. I think they run about $89 US. I do an ebow version of Daylight that's sounds pretty cool.

Love the sound. Really want to get one!

It depends what you mean by "cheap" because I found some on eBay.

Some of them are kinda cheap....I guess

Also, on zzounds.com, they're around US$80. The usual price.

ebow tab for amsterdam anyone? or any other songs where buckland uses it?

Okay. after watching a couple live performances of amsterdam it looks like he stays on the D-string and goes from fret 7 to 8 to 13 to 12 and repeats (four times) I think. I don't have an E-bow but that's what I see Jonny doing.

As for spies...he uses a glass bottle-neck slide and most of the time and in the album version he play the high e-string starting at the 9th fret sliding to the 11th fret and going back and forth. Now at the electric factory I saw him use the b-string and move between frets 14 and 16. He changes it up often, sliding a little higher or lower as he pleases.

yeah he is! :D

E bows aint cheap no more because the company that produced them went out of business so there are many floating around on the web but they cost a bundle cos there arent many anymore
