I don't know, since travelling to England every single year for the past 4 years, I wish I'd be English! My mum always says I'm patriotic - for the wrong country :P Throughout the World Cup, I only cheered for England, even saying stuff like "WE won" :D

I'm still a relative noob at following big soccer matches, so I wasn't exactly about to closely follow all of the games. France was one of the teams I didn't care about up to the semifinal.

 

And still, if there was one player who's name you couldn't escape, it was 'Zizou'. Zidane is rallying the troops. Zidane led France against Brazil. Zidane is a god-like hero. On and on and on. It was probably the only name from a team I wasn't following that stuck in my head. Sorry, but for the Italian guy being mentioned, I can't even remember who he is. Zidane was unescapable.

 

One moment of complete mindlessness, and the world was reminded that even god-like heros are still mere humans, subject to appauling degrees of frailty. A lesson for us all, perhaps...

 

Now maybe some of the people who voted would like to take their ballots back, and maybe the system will change in the future, but I do think that with the exception of those mere seconds, Zidane was the man of the tournament, and deserved the award, however embarrasing it may be.

Well said! I agree with you a 100% he really stood out. Canavaro was amazing too but he didn't stand out as much as Zidane did. Zizou prolly only had two great matches and the rest were just average but still in those two matches he was better than any other player in all the world cup and that is why he won.

The problem is that defensers never stand out. But in a team there are not only midfielders and forwarders ;)

Iriden you talk about fair play but...

 

1°) Zidane is the Best Player in this World Cup that's all! On the grass, he was the better!

 

2°) Italy was not really fair play, I don't know what Materazzi said...
