^ Oh no he won't switch careers with his wife yet :P

He just appeared in this comedy show for fun, I doubt we'll see him acting that often in the future, though it would be fun :D

yeah!

That newspaper review was a bit of a joke wasn't it - "humourless Chris"??? Chris Martin's one of the funniest guys on the planet!

Yeah, it's amazing. How wrong can you get something?

The way he describes it, it's as if everything was scripted but Chris' part.

A.

SORRY! I REALLY DON'T DO COCAINE

Corbett says drug role was only a joke

He would have been one of showbiz's most unlikely cocaine users.

And it was all just for a laugh on TV's Extras. But Ronnie Corbett is concerned his cocaine-snorting role may have been too convincing and has reassured fans it was only a joke. Referring to his partnership with Ronnie Barker in The Two Ronnies, the comic said: "I would just like to assure people that we never resorted to drugs - or drink for that matter."

The Scots star - famous for his Two Ronnies partnership and sitcom Sorry! - made the guest appearance on the Ricky Gervais comedy last week. In it he was seen taking the class A drug in a toilet cubicle at the BAFTA awards, where Gervais's character Andy Millman was nominated for a gong.

After being caught in the act by security guards, he was later banished from all future BAFTA ceremonies. But the 75-year-old clean-cut star has admitted he is concerned viewers of the BBC2 show thought his performance was too good.

And he told how his actress wife Anne Hart had tried to persuade him not to appear on the programme. He said: "My wife did say she thought going on Extras would be the wrong thing to do.But I love the programme and it was good fun."

Diminutive Corbett joined a host of stars, including Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, Stephen Fry and fellow comedy veteran Richard Briers, in last Thursday's episode.

Viewers were stunned to see him leaning over a toilet using a £20 note to snort cocaine with Millman's hapless agent Darren Lyons, played by Stephen Merchant.

But the experience has not put the Edinburgh-born comedian off teaming up with the cream of the British comedy scene. He will next appear as himself in Little Britain's Christmas special, where he is wooed by grotesque sauna addict Bubbles De Vere. He said he enjoyed filming the scene with Matt Lucas playing the latex man-eater.

He added: "Bubbles De Vere comes to my Spanish villa, eats my Ferrero Rocher, drinks my champagne and tries to do naughty things to me. It was fun."

Chris' Extras episode will air this Sunday night on HBO, but anyome with HBO OnDemand can see it starting today.

I'm going directly home and watching it On Demand...it's my alone time. Can't wait!

This show is so funny, Chris was great on it. :)

anybody have any idea what the song was that chris sang while the end credits rolled? it sounded lovely and i didnt recognize it. is there any way i could get it?

Haha... I was going through my TV Guide when I saw Chris' face in the "Cheers and Jeers" section! Here's what they said:

"CHEERS to Chris Martin for his slyly self-parodying cameo on Extras. The Coldplay frontman displayed a rarely seen sense of humor, rushing through a PSA taping with Britcom star Andy Millman (Ricky Gervais). 'I want to get back for Deal or No Deal,' Martin explained. 'Plus, Gwyneth's making drumsticks.' That's delicious!"

I'm so used to Chris being hilarious that it sounds so weird when people say stuff about him not having a sense of humor... but anyway, it was a very pleasant surprise. I'm so cutting that section out. :D

The song Chris sang at the end is called "Tea For the Tillerman"

It's a song by Cat Stevens, and is usually the credits song for Extras, but Chris did his own special version for this episode.

That's not to mention the classic Martin/Gervais "Fix You" duet after the credits...

Gervais plans last 'one-off' Extras

TH1_A14448131174319100A.jpg

Ricky Gervais is to write one final episode of Extras.

Fans had hoped for a third series of the BBC Two show.

But Gervais and writing partner Stephen Merchant want the show to bow out with a one-off special - just as they did with The Office.

"Ricky and Stephen are writing one more episode of Extras and that will be it," a spokesman for Gervais said.

"There is no storyline or cast yet, and things are in their very early stages."

The first two series of Extras featured celebrity cameos from the likes of Orlando Bloom, Kate Winslet and Ben Stiller.

The next project for Gervais will be an ITV series based on his best-selling children's book, Flanimals.

Extras won't come back for a third season

After two highly acclaimed seasons of Extras, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, creators and stars, announced today that one of the funniest shows on TV won't be coming back for another season of the HBO/BBC2 instant classic. Only a dozen episodes of Extras have been produced with amazing guest stars like Orlando Bloom, Ben Stiller, and Samuel L. Jackson, but Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who star every week along with series regular Ashley Jensen, won't need any more guest stars.

Well, maybe one more - Reuters reports that Extras will go out in the same style as the last amazing collaboration between Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, The Office, and produce a special finale. It's unclear when the Extras special finale will air, either in the UK on BBC2 or here on HBO, where the show has turned into one of the network's biggest hits. A spokesperson for Ricky Gervais told ITV, "We don't have a date or any details about the cast yet."

Extras stars Ricky Gervais as Andy Millman, an extra in the first season who became a pretty big star on a lame sitcom in the second season. The first six episodes were an instant cult hit and earned the series a nomination in the writing category. The series included guest appearances by Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller, Samuel L. Jackson, and Patrick Stewart. Extras came back to HBO this year and the second six episodes were even bigger and better than the first. Orlando Bloom, Chris Martin (of Coldplay), Daniel Radcliffe, and even Robert De Niro showed up for hilarious cameos. But, the series did end on a note that made you feel like it could be the end of Extras, especially considering how Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant ended The Office.

There have been rumors of an American adaptation of Extras, much like The Office, but, at least until that happens, you can catch the first season of Extras on DVD and the second on HBO on Demand and even spot Stephen Merchant in the upcoming comedy-action flick Hot Fuzz. Ricky Gervais has been seen recently in For Your Consideration, now available on DVD, and the mega-hit Night at the Museum, which comes out DVD next month. Gervais will next be seen in the highly-anticipated Stardust, directed by Matthew Vaughn, and starring Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, Sienna Miller, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Jason Flemyng.

"Extras" stars go head-to-head at Baftas

LONDON (Reuters) - Ricky Gervais is up against long-time collaborator Stephen Merchant in a battle for one of the top television awards this year, organisers said on Wednesday.

The creators and co-stars of the BBC2 sitcom "Extras" are nominated for a Bafta best comedy performance award.

They face competition from Dawn French in "The Vicar of Dibley" and Liz Smith, who plays Nana in "The Royle Family".

Extras follows the ups and downs of struggling "background artiste" and minor TV star Andy Millman, played by Gervais, and his hapless agent Darren Lamb (Merchant).

Robert De Niro, David Bowie and Coldplay's Chris Martin were among the stars who sent themselves up in the second series.

The show missed out on a nomination for the best comedy programme.

"The Catherine Tate Show", which gave the nation the catchphrase "Am I Bovvered?", takes on Matt Lucas and David Walliams' Christmas special "Little Britain Abroad".

Ant & Dec's "Saturday Night Takeaway" is up against BBC chatshow "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross", Stephen Fry's panel game "QI" and Paul Merton in "Have I Got News For You" in the entertainment performance category.

Channel 4's "Longford", a drama about the life of Labour peer and prison reform campaigner Lord Longford, picked up four nominations, including best actor for Jim Broadbent.

The winners will be announced at the London Palladium on May 20.

DVD Review: 'Extras: The Complete Series'

j25dvdextras1.jpg_01-25-2008_8O66D9E.jpg

Just as he did with the original version of "The Office,” Ricky Gervais turned his next series, "Extras,” into a near-masterpiece of squirm, a comedy of bad manners and celebrity misbehavior. Gervais used the secret life of extras — struggling actors who populate the background in movies — to jab at the politics of entertainment and deflate the mythology of stardom, and plenty of superstars showed up to help Gervais let the air out.

"Extras: The Complete Series” compiles the show's 12 episodes plus last year's 90-minute finale. It splits neatly into two halves of Andy Mellman's career: his time as a lowly bit player in BBC productions starring Patrick Stewart and Kate Winslet, and then his sudden rise as the star of "When the Whistle Blows,” a horrendous, catchphrase-heavy sitcom. Andy and his dim best friend, Maggie (Ashley Jensen, "Ugly Betty”), bumble their way through costume dramas and war pictures, collecting their checks and encountering stars at their absolute worst.

This is the most obvious selling point for "Extras” — Daniel Radcliffe, Ian McKellen, Ben Stiller and Coldplay's Chris Martin all play outsized and evil versions of their public personas, and David Bowie's sing-a-long takedown of Andy is the best of all self-parodies.

The only real shame comes with the series finale. Andy gets heavy-handed in the end, but "Extras” is best when Gervais is having a laugh.
