Im very interested in seeing this movie. Im not sure if its going to be bashing Christians or just extremist Christians.

I grew up going to church camp every summer. It was fun! We played games, made crafts, ate waaaay too much junkfood from the snack bar, hung around with friends we didn't get to see that often during school... sometimes we would go swimming or hiking.

 

The only real difference from a secular camp was that we had meetings every day- and before you get the heebie jeebies, I remember more about singing and playing the biggest craziest games of Simon says ever than anything. And the churchy stuff wasn't just empty preaching- it really helped me out when I was going through some rough times, and I know the other kids got alot out of it as well... which is kind of the reason that religon still exists at all. Because most people need spiritual stuff to get them through life, and that's no different if you're 7 or 70.

 

I'm just worried that something like this will try to portray Christians as a bunch of brainwashed morons. Which totally is NOT true.

Nothing wrong with regular Church Camp. BUT im wondering if this is an extremist church camp they are attacking or just a regular one.

i think this focuses more on the evangelical side of Christianity, like the movie's about an evangelical Christian camp and what they do and what not. but that's just what i've been told/read

Thats nothing, thats speaking the truth to kid, not bullshitting them. Its bad for a kids mental health to bullshit them about reality. If a persons fake they need to be told. Thats not even anything radical.

Christian camps, the Hillsong church etc freak me out bigtime! I think as long as the don't send bad messages to the kids and don't have the weird coordinators at these camps then theyre alright but if I was a little kid I don't think I'd want to go... However this year my whole class had to go on a retreat which I think is a bit like a camp out in the mountains and that was okay except they kept trying to make us open up and face our fears by embarresing us which I thought was stupid.

I've seen clips of this, they seem to be a bit more extremist than is necessary!

They had a cardboard cut-out of George Bush and were praying to it or something. I just found it scary.

That clips was not even close to extremist. The on she linked us to. But the ones where they worship bush are, but that is EXTREMELY rare but scary

I know this thread is old, but I'm reviving it, I saw this documentary yesterday, and theres nothing right about it. These children are being brainwashed and its absolutely disgusting. I'm terrified for these children.
