So ..Pocket symphony..

I got a leaked version awhile back and started listening to it just 3 days ago. Was i disapointed and terribly bored with the first listen?!I thought:"Oh boy here's a worst possible combination of Talkie-walkie and Moon safari". There were few stand out though:

One hell of a party (with Jarvis Cocker)

Mer du Japon

Somewhere between sleeping and walking (with Neil Hannon)

And that was about it.. Through second listen i realised i kinda got addicted to Somewhere between... Being too disapointed i left the record lay around for two days and i forced myself for another listen and guess what: totally new experience with a huge feeling of relief that reminded me greatly of Moon safari (which i strongly recommend to everyone, no matter what you listen usually) . As a matter of fact, it a perfect sequence of Moon safari, if we ignore the fact that it has been more than 8 years since MS got released and few albums relased between. MS is my favourite and it will stay that way after this album, but the clear vision of more improved Air is obvious.

Rebellious tone that once ruled Air's creations has clearly calmed itself and nature zen feeling is taking over. Japanese touch is very noticable, esp. in the second part of the album, not just in classic melodies that remind me of very smooth samuray's ones (with toms and all) but also in new instruments that were used on this album that are in common use in Japan (Mer du Japon).

Ok, this is obviously not a usual way , for me,of reviewing an album but the whole structure of albums Air make is why i adore them , and after MS (here she goes again, sorry... ) this is the first album in which the cohesive strenght is the main reason why this album is good.Very good, in fact.

My favorites from this album have not changed from the first listen but the more i listen to it, basic concept of this album is that there are few not very memorable songs but still good enough to be bridges between very powerful and one of the best collaborating songs Air ever did. So..though not every song is a masterpiece itself,it all functions very well and it even overcomes all problems it brings-possible boredom etc. as i listen to it now,i cannot help not to feel love, for this album, growing more and more, and by the end of this review i'm proudly naming Space maker as another favourite from this album no matter it also felt like a bridge song from the moment i started listening to this album...who knows maybe it will happen with all "bridge songs" by the time you read this review...:D

Is that the artwork?

it seems it is, it has just been put on the wiki, it wasn't there few days ago, and it's confirmed.

Must be, it's on the offical site.

That artwork isn't very good IMO

it's interesting, but the idea isn't very flattering.

where are Nik and Sam?

Working together on a plan for world domination :laugh3:

its not a second "moon safari" as everybody wanted to be, but it's seriously better then any other releases by Air. And that opening song, wow, amazing.

a must listen for everybody who liked Moon Safari.

i give it an 8.5/10.

nice review btw, dajrekshen.

Holy shit. Completely forgot about this.

thank you Ian and Talisman :nice:

Your review made me listen to it, and listening to it made me love it !

I think I like it just as much as Moon Safari or Talkie Walkie, and both are greatly great...

I love the bass line on Redhead Girl : simple, but efficient.

where are Nik and Sam?

lol

good review, Zorana.

i wasn't really impressed by this album tbh, it gets boring after 4-5 tracks. it has some nice moments, but overally it's average. good for one listening, but not really memorable at all

i'd give it a 6.0

Excellent review.

I've been obsessed with Moon Safari for the past week. So I'll definitel give this a listen.
