Williams enters rehab on birthday

It is not the first time that the British star has entered rehab, having become addicted to drugs and alcohol after he left Take That in 1995.

He said later that his condition was so bad that Sir Elton John "kidnapped" him and made him seek treatment.

In September, his Asian tour was called off because of stress and exhaustion.

He was to have visited Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Mumbai (Bombay) and Bangalore in November.

A spokesman said at the time that to have performed in those cities after honouring European and South American commitments would have been "asking too much".

'Blow up'

In a TV interview broadcast in 2004, Williams, who lives in Los Angeles, said he only gave up drugs and alcohol because they made him too fat.

He said his addiction made him "blow up to the size of a small aircraft hangar".

Williams' former Take That bandmates are currently enjoying a hugely successful comeback, including a number one single and album, and a sell-out UK tour.

Their song Patience is expected to win best single at the Brit Awards ceremony, which takes place in London on Wednesday. But this is the first time in several years that Williams has failed to be in the running for the best male or best album categories.

At least he doesn't shoot up in public like Potty Pete!;)

aye! i was quite suprised though, didnt think he was still on drugs. but then again he's a drug addict and he'll probably never be completely cured.

True - an addict is never cured, only recovering.........................

Publicity Stunt. He's not living up to his part of the huge record deal (by selling enough albums or making good music in fact) so he does this....sad reallly.

OR - indeed he realises that his smug little face is getting him nowhere anymore and that the losers of the Take That era are now doing better than him (still shite though) - so he's hit the pills!

Either way - he's crap. Worst thing he did was fall out with Guy Chambers - who wrote all is best songs.

I'm not sure I agree with everything you said, but I definitely agree with your last point 100 per cent.

Since the split with Guy, the quality of his songs has nosedived.

Rudebox was a complete and utter joke and waste of time.;)

hes an alcoholic and a drug addict and he's been taking antidepressants for years now so i dont think the fact that rudebox wasnt successful made him addicted to pills. he had probably been addicted to them a long time before the album was released.

That's sad.I knew he took antidepressant. You can easily get addicted to this stuff(believe me) and he has a very addictive personality.

hope he gets better soon.. even though I think he's shit... I only liked that one song he did.... with the 007 hook...

Good point.
