I know Suzana already did a thread, but since I was at the airport, and hotel and concert on the fist night I thoght I'd open another thread to post the pictures and more details of what happened. Mods, feel free to put the 2 threads together!!

 

here goes the detailed story...

 

it all started on the 25th, when all of us (from coldplaybr) went to the airport to try to see Coldplay arriving. After 3 hours of waiting and a lot of anxiety and crossed information, we got to know that the band had already left through an alternate exit.

I went, along with Ana and Edu (people I met at the airport), by car to the hotel, to try to get there before the band, but no luck. As soon as we arrived we were informed by a group of girls that were already there that the band had arrived 20 minutes before us and that someone from the crew told them that they didn’t want any contact with the fans.

That didn’t really make us give up. We tried to get in the hotel, managed, by using a little bit of theatre, but as soon as the manager noticed we were probably fans, we were kicked out. Again, not a reason to give up, we stayed at the hotel door until 11:30pm waiting to see if the band would come out. No one did, so we had to go home, but with the promise of coming back the next day and not leaving until we saw Chris, Jonny, Will and Guy.

The perfect day starts…

 

We said we would meet at 8am in front of the hotel. Well, I only managed to get to there at 10:15, but no problem, since no one from the band had appeared so far and the only information we had was from a driver that saw Will having breakfast at around 8. We waited, and waited, and waited. Quietly (almost), without making any mess, across the street from the hotel front door, in a very peaceful and civilized way. We were about 15 people, a huge banner, magazines, cd covers, boards, and etc for the band to sign.

 

At around 12, the first reward: Will gets out of the hotel front door, no security guard around, just accompanied by his wife Marianne and a tour manager to go out for a walk. One by one we got our autographs and pictures, and after he left, the feeling that this was a good sign, and that more was to come was established among the group.

After Andre (coldplaybr admin) talked to one of the tour managers our hopes went even more up. She told him we were being very cooperative, and that if we remained like that, without making any mess, it was very probable that the band would come out from the front door of the hotel and that they would probably talk to us. After a few more hours waiting, the securities start to come out and organize the cars to leave with the band. We were nervous and apprehensive, mostly because it was starting to seem that the band wouldn’t talk to us at all.

We were all holding the banner when Chris finally came out of the front door, stopped at the opposite sidewalk, and crossed the street!!! It was just the sweetest moment. We all let go of the banner, and when we saw Jonny and started calling him, he also came. Shaking hands everywhere, everyone could barely talk, but we got pictures, autographs, smiles, laughs, recordings of Chris saying: “Coldplaybr.com”, I handed him a letter from Ana, that had to go back to work, and he seemed sad that someone had to leave, and got a laugh from him, after trying to take a picture with this security guard but settling with a picture OF the security guard, with Chris behind laughing at that strange request. We even asked them to play Shiver, but got an “I don’t want to play shiver” as an answer. And if you are wondering about Guy, well, some people saw him quickly, but he got straight in the car, no pictures, no autographs, but we didn’t really care so much anymore.

After they left, shaking hands were still there, smiling faces, screams, jumps, hugs and tears, lots and lots of tears - Of happiness, of course. And 5 minutes later, rain, A LOT of rain. But we didn’t really care, the day was already one of the bests of all our lives, and the concert was still to come at night!

It´s show time!!

 

I get to Via Funchal (where the concert was happening) and when go to my seat I realize not only it was closer than I imagined, but I was practically on the stage, it was just amazing. At 9:15pm the opening band starts. Not as bad as imagined, but not so good anyways.

We were all too anxious for Coldplay to start to actually pay attention to anything. They started playing at about 10:20pm and it was just beautiful. From the first song until the last, everything was just amazing. The opening with Square One; The powerful lights during Politik; The balloons coming from the back during Yellow, the balloon that I managed to throw over Chris´s piano (which seemed to almost cause him a heart attack), followed by the balloon that the girl in front of me threw on Chris´s microphone and almost took his teeth off (but only made him start laughing about it); the speed ending of Clocks that seemed as if Will´s arms were gonna fall at the end as he put so much strength to the drums; the surprise walk to play Til Kingdom Come where they went to the middle of the crowd to play and made everyone get up on their chairs to try and see something; the comeback, with Swallowed in the sea (which by the end of it I was already crying my eyes out), followed by In my place and finished, of course, with Fix You, and the turning light over our heads and a thankful Chris on the Piano.

But no, that wasn´t the end. As they finished, the whole crowd started asking together, in one voice for Shiver, and when I saw Chris giving a look to Jonny that seemed to say: “I don’t think we have a choice here” and whispering in Guy´s ear “Shiver”, I was sure, they were coming back to answer our plead. And they did, with Chris saying: “I´ve never seen a whole crowd ask for the same song at once like now. Fucking bastards! We haven't played this for a long time”. And with a bit of rehearsal, Chris and Jonny start playing the most awaited song of the night. He forgets the lyrics for the second part, but I don’t really care, I was screaming them from the top of my lungs, and after they finish and leave, the sensation is that the night was complete, finally. And after every friendly hug of celebration of the night, more tears would come, but again, only happy tears. And it was a general opinion that February 26th was one of the best days of a lot of people's lives.

wow guys... thank you so much for all the things you are saying. I never thought I would have so many responses to what I wrote. I dont think it was supposed to be a review in the begining, but it ended up being one. I wrote all that at 3am after getting home from the concert. I just think as this was exactely my feelings at that moment, i knew it was also the feeling of most people that were with me at that concert.

Hello everyone!!!

 

Sorry for coming only now, I've just arrived home after almost 8 hours between airports and planes (I live far far away from São Paulo). Unfortunately I couldn't join the group to see the boys in the hotel because I was with my boyfriend (and he hates Coldplay) and he was already going to the concert with me it was too much to ask to go to the hotel... Anyway I feel that part of me was there with people from ColdplayBR.com and I feel almost as happy as them!! And, of course, listening to their songs live at Via Funchal was much more than I could ever ask!

 

I'm sorry I don't have enough words to describe how good was the last night for me. My seat was in the fourth row it was hell expensive but as soon as I arrived there I realized it was totally worthy. My seat was in the center, and in the left side of it there was an empty row (where people walked to arrive in their seats) so, during the gig, I would have an incredible view. I would if there weren't a bunch of stupid assholes (seated behind me) that left their seats and went to this empty row and I asked 'please, go back to your seat' and they went nearer to the stage (the center of the first and second row weren't sold, so just the guests from production were there) where people didn't pay that much to their seats and didn't ask that people to leave... and the worst thing was that most of them just knew how to sing the chorus line of speed of sound and fix you...

 

But the concert was amazing, the best night of my life, I think Mariana's review is really good, we had Sparks and Daylight (which were awesome) and we're supposed to have Love me tender, but they didn't play it. It was fun that when they started playing Sparks Chris said they were going to play High Speed, and then 'oh no, it's Shiver' and finally he said it was all a joke :P

 

Chris didn't go to the crowd during In My Place, don't know why, maybe because there wasn't enough space in the venue. Chris and Jonny relationship in the stage is fabulous!! By the way if you wanted to see Guy, Jon or Will the way was all free, all the attentions of 90% of the crowd went to Chris Martin. Probably an effect of the high price of the tickets that left many true fans of the band outside the concert.

Another thing that was really cool was that Oxfam promoters were giving some 'make trade fair signs tatoos! :D

 

I recorded some videos, but somehow I changed the camera settings to the lowest resolution! In the end I understood that it wasn't a bad thing because that allowed me to record the best Coldplay song ever and the song that made my night to be never forgotten!! SHIVER!!! OMG I still can't believe it happened!! Every time I watch the video it does make me shiver!! I'm uploading it right now,sorry for some parts, I was shaking!! I couldn't hold all that emotion! And of course I knew It was my duty to record it and share it with all of you that are always so kind and so helpful, what makes me to be so glad of being a part of this community!!

 

Sorry for the long and crazy post, I've just arrived home and I'm still very excited!!
