Last year mostly sucked musically for me too.

Don't forget REM and Portishead. I think there are a couple more I'm forgetting.

Thanks. I'd like to think I do...mostly.:)

I got my copy of Lost Souls right from the Capitol Records building in Boston from an employee there (My best friend's neice.)! I had never heard of them and had no idea what to expexct, but I was soooo blown away. And like I've said in other threads that only happend a couple of times a decade. (That's also when and where I got Parachutes...case in point:D.)

And no, I don't get priveleged info, lol. If I hear anything though, I'll post it here.

I'll keep it short. Biggest news I've received in months and I'm thrilled. a month at the soonest meaning two at the latest. It's so soon it's scary! Song titles are no less creative and odd than the rest. It's so funny how yesterday it seemed so distant. but now that they're estimating the date it feels like tomorrow...

Re: Eno Vs. Phil

It should be noted that Eno has had a longstanding habit of reffering to himself as a "non-musician", so the entries could be from him, even allowing for the fact that the writer claims to not be a musician...

Also. some random thoughts:

SoS (Single) was released May 23rd 2005, a little over 2 weeks before X&Y

In addition while a promo tour is standard fair for a lot of major releases, the one for X&Y was unusually involved. Usually it's just a handful of TV appearences/interviews and such, not a full round of club gigs. Also, I get the impression that Coldplay wants to avoid the overblown media onslaught that was the release of the last album in favor of something more understated and that they now find the whole thing "tacky" looking back on it, at least from everything I've seen/read on the subject.

Second, I doubt there was ever really all that much to the "strike" rumors. Sure Coldplay most likely wants to leave EMI ASAP, but the only evidence that they were "on strike" was a single vague comment by their U.S. management. Mostly, it was just gossip and should be treated as just that.

Lastly, even if they were on bad terms with EMI, most of their non UK distribution is through Capitol which although a subsidiary of EMI is allowed a high degree of autonomy in it's day to day functionallity, handling of releases etc. Most of the issues effecting EMI recordings in the UK have/will have little to no impact on releases elsewhere and it's entirely possible that Coldplay could release material through the Capitol brand even if they had issues releasing through Parlophone.

Just things to mull...

Is this mean that they will release the album in a month or so, or they will finish it and then start working with it for another month (artwork, video etc.)?

reasonable...

2008 is going to ROCK for music (quite literally). my mom sent me the Q magazine with chris (and bono and oasis on the cover) today, and it reminded me of all the amazing stuff coming out this year in addition to coldplay: U2, oasis, the verve, the killers, franz ferdinand, keane...so many more. i think 2008 is going to remind me of 2005 (because that was a great music year for my tastes as well). 2007 was pretty crappy until october 10!

YOU'RE SOOO RIGHT!

2005 was an amazing year for me as well!

it was full of great music.. and i think 2008 will be the same..

there always is a year when the music industries just, explodee!

and we all have seen that brings a good year fo great music ;)

That's true, but April 18th was the first time the song was actually heard, which was almost a month and a half before release of the album. I have hopes for this happening again.

too many predictions, too much expectations... coldplay is full of mystery.

yay this is great.

I still dont know who prospekt is

Eno mabye but the journal spoke of Eno as another person

"Credit goes to Eno and Dravas for Pushing them......."

I think Phil but still unclear. but who cares. Im just excited 4rm the LP4 news. Im so excited.:smug:

this is exactly why i wanted (and still want, though i'm pacified for a while) the release date so bad: because it'll seem so much closer so i can put an exact number to the days left. i know people think i'm crazy for harping on the release date so much, but really having the number of days left makes it seem like there's an end in sight to the wait!

Do you think they will reveal who Prospekt is eventually??

^I hope so. Just remember guys, that if it's Eno, I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!

but didn't prospekt refer to eno in one of the entries? then it couldn't be him:thinking:

^Sure it could. Referring to himself would be the perfect way to avert suspicion it was him.:wink3:

2 weeks? Where are you located? It's always more than that here. (Welcome to the forum by the way...you must be a Doves fan with that username!)

And you may be right about the change in the industry meaning a change in their proceedure, but the 'buzz tour' is pretty standard issue before most major releases...I think X&Y was only a couple of weeks, not sure.

It's like this on my favorite X-Files forum right now too. We're all specualting about every aspect of the movie and it's not even out til July, lol. At least all the speculation will give us something to do til we do have a single/album.:)

In the UK the physical single is usually released two weeks before the album, downloads a few weeks before that, and it hits radio about six weeks before release date.

Yes, I am a big Doves fan, can't wait for their new record which should be out this summer too!

SAme here! I was supposed to see them in Toronto on their last tour, but the friend who was driving got sick, so I missed them. Hopefully they'll come back to Canada with this album.:)

hmm, interesting theory:thinking:
