aaaaaaaaaaaaa that was terrrrible. But I feel sorry for riise..... kind of

Haha that was... well, unexpected...

First Bayern managed to get back from 3-1 to 3-3, and now this... games really are played to the last moment...

Funny video of Phil Thompson's reaction to the own goal - sounds like he shouts "Penguin!!!" at the end, very funny :P

Ahh, just realised he shouts "Paynie" - to the presenter, who's name is Ian Payne. Still, "Penguin" is funnier.

Lampard says Blues worthy of draw

Lampard was back in the Chelsea starting line-up

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard felt his side deserved to come away from the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at Liverpool with a draw.

The Blues were headed for defeat until Liverpool's John Arne Riise headed into his own net deep into injury time.

"I think we deserved definitely to get the draw at the end," he said. "They had chances and we had chances. It was a battle and we carried on to the end.

"This is not an easy place to come and we kept at it."

He added: "We kept going, we created chances and we were persistent.

"There were times when they were on top and there were times when we were on top."

Chelsea boss Avram Grant said: "I do not concern myself with what people say, I am just doing my job to get results. And I know that 1-1 away from home in Europe is good result. It is a big step now towards our goal.

"We have conceded a lot of late goals this season so it was good to see one go in our favour.

"I felt we deserved it. There could have been a couple of penalties for us and we controlled the game until Liverpool scored.

"Both goals came from mistakes, but I must also praise Petr Cech for his performance. He made some important saves, but we are used to that from him.

"But although the draw is good for us, we know it will be tough at Stamford Bridge. It is always difficult for teams to play at Anfield with the support Liverpool's fans create, but it can also be intimidating for teams who visit Stamford Bridge.

"We know this is a big step towards the Champions League final now, and we believe we can complete the task in the second leg."

Goalkeeper Cech pulled off a number of saves with the score at 1-0 and he felt their fortunate equaliser made up for some bad luck at Anfield in previous visits.

"We've been quite unlucky here the last two semi-finals," he said. "We had our chances and we didn't take them.

"We've had a lucky goal but to be fair we've played until the last second and we were rewarded for that."

Lampard hailed Cech's contribution, saying: "He was fantastic. He's the best goalkeeper in the world and he showed that."

Cech urged his team-mates to finish the tie at Stamford Bridge, adding: "This is not over. I hope at home we can make it."

Lampard reveals mother heartache

Lampard said he would play against Manchester United on Saturday

Chelsea's Frank Lampard has admitted he was not fully prepared either mentally or physically for the Champions League semi-final first leg against Liverpool.

The midfielder missed two Chelsea games last week to be at the hospital bedside of his mother, who has pneumonia.

"I have been in better shape for games both mentally and physically but it has been a very difficult week," he said.

"In terms of the game it was tough mentally but once the game started I just concentrated on the job."

Lampard said the outlook for his mum, Pat, had been "very bleak" at one stage.

She was admitted to hospital just over a week ago and the England international said only an improvement in her condition gave him the incentive to play at Anfield.

"I won't go into details but we were getting a very bleak outlook. That was the hardest moment for me in my life," he said.

"We got some decent news on Saturday afternoon and my head came round a little bit then. I made a decision to go to training on Sunday and see how I felt.

"My mum and dad follow me up and down the country and hopefully, all being well, my mum will come round and I know she would have had a right go at me for not playing in this game.

"That was in the back of my mind. She is stable at the minute and that gave me a bit of a clear mind to play but I will be back with her on Wednesday."

The midfielder did not have his best game in a Chelsea shirt as Avram Grant's men came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Anfield.

Dirk Kuyt had put Liverpool ahead before the break but John Arne Riise scored an own goal in injury time to give Chelsea a slight advantage ahead of next week's return game at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard said he would play against Premier League leaders Manchester United on Saturday for what is being billed as a title-deciding match.

"I am sure I will be OK for Saturday," he said. "It has been a positive few days from what was a very desperate situation last week."

Man Utd wait on Vidic after scare

_44594517_vidic203pa.jpg

Manchester United's Nemanja Vidic was taken to hospital on Tuesday with a stomach complaint ahead of his side's Champions League tie against Barcelona.

The centre-back remains a doubt for the semi-final first leg in Spain.

"He was brought here on Tuesday with a stomach problem and kept in for a couple of hours," said a spokesman for Barcelona's Hospital de Bellvitge.

"But he was later released as the condition was not very serious and I'd have thought he will be able to play."

Vidic was the player put up for interview by the club at Tuesday's pre-match news conference and appeared relaxed.

But he sat out training before being taken to the hospital later on Tuesday.

He only recently returned to action after three weeks out because of a knee injury.

The final decision on the Serbia international's availability will be left to the Manchester United team doctors.

"Whether he plays or not is not our decision," added the hospital spokesman. "He is back with the team and the club doctors will decide if he is fit to play this evening."

Vidic has been a mainstay at the heart of United's defence, along with fellow central defender Rio Ferdinand, for most of the season and has been integral to his side's success this season.

Wes Brown would be a contender to replace him but he is also struggling with a knock picked up in the 1-1 draw with Blackburn last Saturday.

That could mean a start for Gerard Pique, who joined as a trainee from Barcelona.

Barcelona v Man Utd

_44586490_barca_manu_226x170.gif

Barcelona star Thierry Henry has recovered from illness and could start alongside Lionel Messi and Deco in the Champions League semi-final, first leg.

Ronaldinho is injured and skipper Carlos Puyol is banned, so Rafael Marquez is set to play in defence.

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, who has just returned following a knee injury, is doubtful after a stomach complaint late on Tuesday.

Wes Brown picked up a minor knock at the weekend but trained on Tuesday.

Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, striker Wayne Rooney, and midfielders Owen Hargreaves and Anderson are all fit.

England star Rooney has overcome the hip injury he suffered in the 1-1 draw with Blackburn on Saturday, while Hargreaves and Anderson sat out the match to allow them to recover from minor knocks.

Dutch goalkeeper Van der Sar is back after recovering from a groin injury.

Messi, the 20-year-old Argentine striker and Barca's leading player this season, has made just two appearances as a substitute since returning to action after six weeks out with a thigh injury.

Former Arsenal star Henry, who was an unused substitute in Saturday's goalless draw with Espanyol, returned to training on Tuesday after sitting out Monday's session because of a fever.

Portuguese midfielder Deco has overcome a calf injury but is still building up his fitness.

"Messi is progressing well and could start. Henry has been with the team on Tuesday and we will see how he is in the training session.

"Deco is OK too, he has worked hard in the last few training sessions," said coach Frank Rijkaard.

Mexican defender Marquez has been suffering from bruising and inflammation in his right foot but seems set to partner Gabriel Milito in the centre of defence.

*Breaking News*

John Arne Riise has been arrested on the M62, for driving up the wrong slip-road.

What the fuck was he thinking. Ah, ain't Karma something...

Of course, Chelsea getting it easy. Poor kid should have just kicked that shit out.

First leg of Barca vs. Man Utd: nil-nil.

Barca owned the match, but no results to back it up.

Ronaldo's penalty mirrored the whole game... absolutely disappointing and quite boring. :dozey:

The best scene just happened after the game. The commentator of Sat.1 stood on the pitch and was talking about the game while suddenly a ManU supporter ran onto the pitch hunted by dozens of security men! Other English supporters cheered him on so it was really funny. ;)

There should be a drinking game played for every time Ronaldo dives.

Haha I didn't even see that. Wish I did. Ashame Barca had most of the match in the palm of their hand and it kept slipping out.

Old Trafford will be quite interesting next week.

Ronaldo wasted an early chance to put United in front

Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty as Manchester United held Barcelona in a cagey Champions League semi-final, first leg at the Nou Camp.

Gabriel Milito needlessly threw his hands up to block a Ronaldo header in the box in only the second minute.

But Ronaldo wasted the opportunity by sidefooting wide from the spot.

Barcelona dominated the game without creating much, although substitute Thierry Henry almost caught out United keeper Edwin van der Sar late on.

United will be rightly pleased with their defensive display, especially having lost Nemanja Vidic before the game to a stomach problem.

But they may live to regret Ronaldo's early miss from the spot when the two sides meet again at Old Trafford next Tuesday.

They could not have imagined a better opportunity to grab an away goal and silence the home fans early on.

When the ball was played into the centre, Ronaldo went up for the header and Milito stuck out an arm to block.

Barcelona protested Milito's innocence but referee Massimo Busacca correctly pointed to the spot.

The Argentine defender was, however, given a let off when Ronaldo opened his body and screwed his spot-kick wide of the upright.

Barcelona responded by taking a grip on the game, probing in and around the visitors' area.

But United's reworked backline - with Wes Brown at centre-back and Owen Hargreaves filling in at right-back - held firm.

Van der Sar was largely untroubled, except for the problems he caused himself with a couple of errant clearances.

United had vowed to attack but they were forced to play a containing game as Barcelona played possession football, with Lionel Messi at the heart of everything.

Wayne Rooney found himself almost in a defensive role and Ronaldo had little say in the game, being forced to pick the ball up deep and was wasteful with the odd free-kick opportunity that came his way.

He was almost handed a chance to atone for his early penalty miss when he latched on to an errant and dangerous pass from Andres Iniesta.

Ronaldo looked set for a run on goal but Rafael Marquez got his body in the way to shepherd the ball back to Victor Valdes and United's penalty appeals came to nothing.

Samuel Eto'o had his first sight of goal just before half-time, but after cutting inside Rio Ferdinand his effort was charged down by Brown.

Barcelona continued to dictate play after the break, with United fortunate that Eto'o chose not to go to ground in the box after skipping past Ferdinand.

When he squared he could not find a team-mate and a minute later the Cameroon striker shot poorly into the side netting after a neat move involving Messi and Deco.

Michael Carrick could have proved himself an unlikely hero as he did brilliantly to weave his way into the box, but he then wasted his good work by firing into the side-netting rather than square for a team-mate.

Messi was replaced by Krkic Bojan and though they continued to enjoy the bulk of the ball, they looked short of a cutting edge without their most potent weapon.

Henry was handed 15 minutes to show his worth and he looked keen to impress as he fired in a shot that Van der Sar managed to parry to safety.

However, there was to be no dramatic ending to a game that promised so much after such a splendid start.

Man Utd hopeful on Rooney & Vidic

_44606554_rooneyvidic.jpg

Both Rooney and Vidic are crucial to United's European hopes

Manchester United are hopeful that Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic will be fit for the Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona.

Neither player trained on Monday morning after sustaining injuries in the 2-1 defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.

Striker Rooney limped off with a hip problem after scoring, while defender Vidic was cut badly after being hit in the face by Didier Drogba's knee.

United are seeking a spot in the Moscow final after a 0-0 draw at the Nou Camp.

Both Rooney and Vidic are key figures for United, and manager Sir Alex Ferguson will give them as much time as possible to prove their fitness for Tuesday's match.

"It's a difficult one. We think both could make it but I can't be certain about that," said Ferguson.

Following the Premier League defeat at Stamford Bridge, Ferguson said England international Rooney was suffering with the same "very painful" hip knock which he suffered a week earlier at Blackburn.

He also confirmed that Serbian centre-back Vidic, who missed the semi-final first leg in Barcelona with a stomach bug, had to have stitches under his lip after losing a tooth in the accidental clash.

Barcelona, meanwhile, will welcome back skipper Carles Puyol who will replace the suspended Rafael Marquez in defence.

Midfielder Yaya Toure (ankle) is a doubt and Edmilson could replace him.

Most of the UTD fans dont live in Manchester
Which is even more impressive that they're able to fill a 76000 stadium week in week out. Most City fans live in Manchester and there are empty seats everywhere
