Is anyone else terrified of getting a huge let-down when the album comes out? I don't mean that the album will be bad... cos that's pretty impossible considering that it's coldplay; but it's been built up so much...

I'm going to be in tears if that Prospekt entry was exaggerating the wow factor of the new album.

I think it will be similar with what happened with X&Y - everyone expected so much. And you will get people who will be disappointed, and you will get people who will love it.

 

I think going in optimistic helps :) Also I like to give each new album a three listen test - listen to it all the way three times, then make an honest opinion.

i seriously hope the album isnt a let down. then that would just show me that there is no more juice in the tank for them. then i would need new inspirations for my band.......my pray is please dont let the album be a disappointment

i think if you're expecting it so bad.. then it won't let you down.

I mean ... we know their job... and we love it (if we don't we wouldn't be here)

i know the've said that this job will be a little different..

But i trust them that they'll do a good job..

and i know that the next album won't let me down! :)

There's a little interview with Chris, Guy, Will and Brian Eno in the new Q magazine. They're talking about Kraftwerk...fairly amoozing! hehe

I'm terrified of it being a let-down, or something i'm not to thrilled about hearing. im not really looking for a duplicate of AROBBTH; i want something fresh and new, but i want something fresh and new thats still sounds like COLDPLAY.

X&Y wasnt a let down for me, but i wasnt nearly as impressed as i was with AROBTTH and parachutes. if im similarly not thrilled by this album in comparison to their first two, then ill get really really worried. ill be terrified that theyre losing their touch and will never put out something as wonderful as AROBTTH or parachutes again. and that scares the crap out of me. being a young person, i never understood how some people can only like certain eras of the beatles music, for example, rather than just everything (I love everything), and i REALLY dont want to become that kind of coldplay fan!

 

my mom is a massvive music fan and says that anyone can put out a dud album, so if this next one isnt great, it doesnt mean theyre down the tubes forever. i think she's right, but as much as i do really love X&Y, im kind of counting that as their "dud" album because i dont think it lived up to their previous work. and if a band puts out two "dud" albums....i get a bit scared.

I'm hoping the same thing too. I also feel that X&Y is not as great as the other two. It's not disappointing, true, but I just felt that there's something missing in that record. Hard to explain. :\ I agree with you Awhisper21 and all of you. We all want something new but it's still got 'Coldplay thing' on it. Hope you get the idea, lol.

Chris seems to have broken through past constraints. There's a new confidence to venture beyond the limits of the known and comfortable.

 

That's the most important thing imo. When you're working on a new album or anything without pressure or burden from your past achievement, you can express yourself freely and explore your ability. And surely it will comes up with a great result. Let's hope that this is the thing that they experienced. :)

Comparison to X&Y studio work

 

I think it's important to really look at how the band have approached making the new album. Many of the interviews and information about X&Y really showed that the band had appoached that album initially as "just a job" and that each ember was separately working in the studio. They finally realized toward the end of the production cycle that they didn't like much of what they'd done and that they'd have to really work as a band to create the new album. Even tho it took a long time for X&Y to come out, they created the bulk of the album in months. So I think X&Y was a bit rushed and lacked some cohesiveness. It was really an album of transition as the band realized their potential and what they could acheive together.

 

With the new album, it seems like they have approached it with huge energy and they really want to make something amazing and new. They are ALL really working hard from the getgo as a band, not as individual artists. I think that this will make all the difference. From looking at how much the band has grown in the past years since X&Y I have no doubt that Prospekts journals are dead right. I can't wait to hear what these guys have created!

 

Just my thoughts.

X&Y wasnt as good as a rush of blood to the head... as for prospect the fact that it has taken them like 4 albums to get it rite well.... i dont think that is unusual bands tend to climax about then so cant wait for greatest hits album :D lol jk jk but i do wonder where the direction they will be heading is? maybe they will holiday :)

I don't like metal or dark heavy metal, and I hope coldplay won't go in that direction, but no matter what they'll do in this album, I will still think they are great.

to me coldplay is very special and I care a lot for the band members, especially for chris.

as long as they are truth to their believes, and don't try to be like some rock stars, they will be ok.

Not a long time!! What are you on about.They have taken so long on this album. They defintley took there time on this album. I remember on of the first time i heared Coldplay commenting on a song for they`re 4th installment when Chris says they have a quissential song everyone has to hear and that seems like a hundred years ago.

give it time..it will be out in due time and will be amazing and worth the wait

I think their next album is going to be amazing.I don't think that AROBTTH was better than X&Y.They were different yeah but I don't think we can compare them because they had totally distant kind of sounds and styles.So I believe that this album is going to be more mature than the rest because they're more grown up now and they had discovered and learnt a lot more about life and music since.

Besides I don't think we should criticize the work before we get to listen to it.We are talking about Coldplay here.That band deserves some more respect than to be presumingly judged like this.

I really do believe that whatever they come out with,they still are gonna touch something and do a great job.

when I started this thread I was overwhelmed by the exciting words of prospekt. he/she made it seem as if coldplay was done with recordings and were now definitely down to the mixing stages. this is one of the rare occassions where I was glad I was wrong. one cannot judge a song by its song title but when you are a coldplay fan its hard not too. with new songs Love in Japan and Strawberry (forgot the full title) you can't do anything but get excited about the new album so cheers to the boys its down to the home stretch.......hope they give us an album worth our patience

I just found out that the album release is in May, so it is some time left. But it will be worth the wait, i'm sure of it!
