Space Cadet
Lo and behold, October has come. The year is coming to a close soon, and it’s time to start asking ourselves, “What albums did we like this year?” Since Ondes Martenot’s album countdown last year was so great, I thought it would be nice to have another one for this year. I’m working out the details and will post them in this space when decisions are made, but for now assume I’ll use his model: List 5 to 25 original albums, released in 2007. Rank determines the points an album gets. Deadline: December 15 10:00pm EST (3am GMT) Suggestions and questions are welcome. We can use this thread for list sketches and discussion, and like before, I’ll post links to people’s lists-in-progress here. To see last year’s thread go here. To see last year's countdown go here. For ideas, check out the mid year thread here. Black Rose
I'm going to do 2 lists, just to confuse you, the first list is my proper albums of the year, but since I like lesser known acts, the votes would be wasted, so the 2nd list is my "big albums of the year", so my points won't get wasted. List 1 - My proper list of the albums of the year (Don't count) Top 18 of the year: 1 - LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver (Pure Brilliance) 2 - Polytechnic - Down 'Til Dawn 3 - Stephen Fretwell - Man on the Roof 4 - The Hoosiers - Trick to Life (Best Pop album this year) 5 - The Redwalls - The Redwalls 6 - Gruff Rhys - Candylion (It came out in 2007, I think, might have been a late 06 album) 7 - Yeti - Yume 8 - Cherry Ghost - Thirst for Romance 9 - Radiohead - In Rainbows 10 - Willy Mason - If The Ocean Gets Rough 11 - Travis - Boy with no Name 12 - Richard Hawley - Lady's Bridge 13 - Thirteen Senses - Contact 14 -The Little Flames - The Day is not Today (Honest, it did get released) 15 - Field Music - Tones of Town 16 - Turin Brakes - Dark on Fire 17 - Air Traffic - Fractured Life 18 - Mark Knopfler - Kill to Get Crimson 19 - Nick Drake - Family Tree (It had original material on it which never got released before :P) 20 - Elliot Smith - New Moon 21 - Arcade Fire - Neon Bible (Just for the first 4 tracks) 22 - Interpol - Whatever it was called 23 - Editors - An End Has a Start Honourable Mentions (Live albums, re-releases, best-ofs) Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen (Deluxe Edition) Ocean Colour Scene - The BBC Sessions VA - The Saturday Sessions - Live on The Dermot O'Leary Show The Beautiful South - BBC Sessions Paul Weller - Wild Wood (Deluxe Edition) The Police - The Police (Greatest Hits) VA - Radio 1 Established 1967 Capitan Melao - Lagrima - Quite simply, if I had listened to it a few days earlier it would be on top of my list, it's amazing List 2 - The Big albums of the year (count these votes for the main picture) 1 - LCD Soundsystem 2 - Radiohead 3 - Travis 4 - Arcade Fire 5 - Interpol 6 - Editors

Space Cadet
Thanks for the lists guys. :D I'm adding them to the top as soon as I work out how to make the links work. It looks like it may be quite easy for some people to top 25 albums... should I raise the upper limit? I could probably get 30 easy...
MrMagpie
^If you have the time and feel like it. I don't really see there being a huge difference between somebody's 25th album and 30th album.

Space Cadet
Excellent idea Erin I'll go away and compile my list and then come back again Thanks for the vote of confidence- and for sticking this on the front page. :D So far I haven't heard up to 25 albums of 2007. Can I still make the list? Of course you can! As long as there were 5 albums you at least somewhat liked, you can make a list of those. ;) how can people be sure that an album will be the best of the year if is not even relesed? btw.. I'll try to make my list later! The really interesting thing there is that even if somehow the finished product through some unknown tragedy manages to suck, it seems to have already become the most important album of the last several years. Will that affect ratings? Should it affect ratings? I don’t see how it wouldn’t. But any album that can have a happy pop song on it written in 5/4 gets my vote. Either way, you have until the yet to be announced (December-ish) deadline to finish the lists- they can be rearranged any time. (updated lists)
