Exclusive Exhausted Chris Travels North For Family Funeral

Featured Replies

COLDPLAY star Chris Martin has made an emotional journey to Scotland for the funeral of his beloved uncle.

He travelled alone to bid farewell to Angus Fleming on Arran. Ferry passengers spotted the rocker on his way to St Molio's Church in Shiskine, Blackwaterfoot, on Friday.

And his band's hit song Fix You was played during the ceremony. Chris, 30, went home after the funeral tea and was so exhausted he slept on the deck of the ferry between Brodick and Ardrossan. Chris said: "I'm very upset. My uncle has just died and I've been to his funeral. It's very difficult."

There was no sign of Oscar-winning wife Gwyneth Paltrow, 35, or their three-year-old daughter Apple and 19-month-old son Moses. Chris had been close to Angus, 55, who died on Monday, months after being diagnosed with cancer.

Angus, a chartered accountant, had lived in Blackwaterfoot, on the west coast of the island, with wife Caroline. They moved permanently to the house that had once been a holiday hideaway after Angus was diagnosed.

A family friend said: "Chris had a strong bond with his uncle and he was devastated to hear of his death. He made a huge effort to get to Arran, taking time out from his hectic schedule, and it was well appreciated by everyone. He looked totally exhausted going back to the mainland on the ferry."

Angus leaves two sons, James and George, and a daughter Lucy, who got married in the church in July.

pr-inside-26864-chris-martin.jpg

COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN made a frantic dash across the U.K. to attend his beloved uncle's funeral on Friday (05Oct07).

The singer, 30, left the London home he shares with wife Gwyneth Paltrow to attend the service for Angus Fleming on the remote Scottish isle of Arran.

Martin - who heard his band's hit song Fix You played during the ceremony was so exhausted from the trip he slept on the ferry on the way home.

He says, "I'm very upset. My uncle has just died and I've been to his funeral. It's very difficult."

Aww... Chris! :(

I hope he's better now.

I'm thinking the bit with 'Fix You' is bullshit though. They threw that in there for publicity. I don't think a Coldplay song would be played at his uncle's funeral.

I don't know... maybe I'm cenile.

Owh, this sucks:(

Sincere Condolences, Chris.

I hope you'll get better very soon.

:cry:Chris! oh what a shock:o

get well back soon(i pray god for you):(

Not home and alone: Martin travelled without his actress wife Gywneth Paltrow to the emotional event

Wide awake: The singer said he was 'very upset' at the death of his uncle who he was very close to

He may be accustomed to the luxuries afforded to millionaire rock stars, but Chris Martin left behind five star comforts during a recent trip to Scotland.

The exhausted Coldplay frontman was seen sleeping on the deck of a ferry travelling back from the funeral of his uncle Angus Fleming, 55, in Arran. Wearing a thick black jumper, and a scarf wrapped around his trademark curly hair to protect him from the elements, a clearly exhausted Martin slept on the deck of the ferry between Brodick and Ardrossan.

The millionaire Coldplay star made the journey to St Molio's Church in Shiskine, Blackwaterfoot without his actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow and children, daughter Apple, 3, and 19-month-old son Moses. He told the Sunday Mail: "I'm very upset. My uncle has just died and I've been to his funeral. It's very difficult."

He had travelled from his north London home to attend the emotional event, and the rock frontman's hit song Fix You was played during the funeral ceremony. Martin was reported to have been close to Angus, 55, who died last Monday, months after being diagnosed with cancer.

A family friend told the Sunday Mail: "Chris had a strong bond with his uncle and he was devastated to hear of his death. poor chris :(

no bloody way!!! I used to get that ferry EVERYDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but, poor chris :(

He has a habit of sleeping in weird places. Isn't there a picture of him asleep on the floor of an airport?

Poor guy.

I actually feel really bad for him after seeing those photos. I know death is one of those things that bothers him...(well, who doesn't it bother). But yeah, I hope he's doing well.

In the circumstances, I don't think these photos of him sleeping on the deck should have been published, or indeed taken in the first place. ;)

My condolences to Chris and his family on the death of his uncle.

Man.. losing family members or anyone you dearly dearly love just...hurts so much. Hope he is feeling a bit better..even though it seems like it's never going to be :/

uhhhh Poor Chris..:disappointed:

My condolences for him..

oh my god... i don't know what i felt so bad after seeing that photos..

Really..

Aw, that's sad. I hope their family is doing okay.

oh..he is a common man!!!

i showed this pics to my mom too,and she's upset as well.

even i don't sleep like that on a deck!!!:\

Why do I get the feeling that Chris would be pretty pissed off on top of it all if he saw those pics online? O.o

 Hate to hear such sad news........ And it must be so hard to be photographed at such a time....... I feel bad for Chris.........

It's a sad situation...but if any paparazzi saw the front man of one of the biggest bands in the world sleeping outside like a homeless man...you don't really think they'd pass up to opportunity to take a photo do you?

I somehow don't think he was concerned. More tired than anything probably.

Do you think it was a pap? Can't imagine the Scottish ferry scene as being a hot bed of pap activity. I would think it was a fellow traveler/ferry rider that took the pics and sold them to the daily gossip rags.
