Maybe it is to make the girls look taller, so they can fool bouncers into allowing them into clubs

Who would use that kind of shoes..?

they're very ugly.. :\

Umm well it depends on what you like. What kind of clothes do you usually wear? What kinds of sweaters' date=' or jeans?[/quote']

I usually wear comfy clothes (normal pretty sweatshirts and sweaters (it's not the same is it? :uhoh:) that don't have much printed on them. and normal jeans that were popular before these came out. and high top jeans is a no go.

i do like tunics or just longer sweaters, may be hoodies.

colour-wise ... i like to wear anything as long as it isn't hot pink or brown.

and those plastic-looking coats and jackets are gross. I'd burn them all. especially those golden or silver ones. eww. they look so cheap.

i'm generally a tshirt, jeans, hoodie, and sneakers person, so i dont think i can help much on the suggestion front. but apparently really bright colors are in for spring, so there's that.

of course, you can always go with a long shirt and tights...:sneaky: :laugh1:

Long shirt and tights... that's fine. i guess i could wear that :nice:

wait, my legs aren't really straight. :|

Or you can go for a lovely full-length dress
i don't usually wear them but I do have one. =)

Or a cardigan! Always nice to have one... :wacky:
yep. i would wear cardigans. but then i'd need lots of other shirts and tees for wearing them under a cardigan. Not a problem, i guess. :)

i was kind of kidding about the long shirt/tights thing because that was the fashion question that this thread was started on. personally i think that particular trend is ridiculous, but some people can pull it off and not look like they simply forgot to put on trousers that day. whatever floats your boat, really :)

but you can do anything with a closet full of basics, like t-shirts and sweaters and jeans. accessories make the outfit, i've always thought.

You can buy simple tanks and shirts in whatever color you wish. And also you can accessorise with jewelry and such...:D

these[/url] came out. and high top jeans is a no go.

i don't like the jeans which are fashion at the moment. skinny jeans just aren't comfortable. i also think guys in skinny jeans is just wrong.

^sadly, i have friends that dress like that. well, minus the badges on the sweater, but yes, people wore bowties/ties to class, BY CHOICE.

i must say i do like that look for guys! for girls i'm a bit more picky.

Compared to what guys wear here, I'd rather see cute cardigans and scarves...

heh, what do guys wear in philly? like baggy hip-hoppy pants and backwards hats? i dont really know--it's either gothy emo or insanely preppy around here. is that normal?

for guys I love cords or cargo pants or khakis with a nice collared shirt or pullover sweater. I mean cardigans look awesome on the runway but try picturing one of your guy friends wearing one ... :freak:

yeah, cardigans are pushing it. one of my friends wears them all the time (his dad is this big designer, so clothes are his thang), and i flinched the first time he wore one.

I don't really get what "preppy" is, but I'm guessing it's a bad thing... anyone care to explain to me?? :)

I like to wear clothes like these:

Pretty and practical :nice:

^^Oh I saw those and I fell in love! Teen Vogue, right??

Preppy... It depends on the people you ask. REAL preppy are the private school kids in New England. Fake/slutty preppy is Hollister, Abercrombie, etc.

Oh my gosh!! I remember that issue of teen vogue, it was from sometime last spring right?? and i think emma watson and daniel radcliffe were on the cover...

^ Yep, that's the one!

And thank you for your that explanation, Annie! I am starting to get my head around it now. The equivalent here, I think, is the surfer look. I know the stereotypes are completely different but I think the same sort of people strive for them. So many teens I know don't leave the house unless they are wearing at least one item of surf branded clothes, e.g Billabong and Roxy

my god, that girl is gorgeous. and the clothes are great too! i couldnt pull that stuff off, but yeah.

and annie's right: american eagle/abercrombie is like trying to be preppy, like fake-preppy, but REAL preppy is like starched oxford shirts in pastel colors tucked into pleated pants and tweed jackets with bowe-ties for guys (just one of many examples), and pleated skirts and sweatervests and mary janes and kneesocks for girls. think of classic school uniforms with blazers and knee socks, and then imagine girls and boys wearing those clothes by choice on a regular basis because they think it makes them look wealthy and distinguished.

this might help. i often forget that "preppy" is generally an american term that most other people dont understand! and its my favorite thing to rant about (or one of them) because sadly i was steeped in the REAL preppy world because i went to a new england prep school...i hate being associated with it.

^Exactly the same situation with me. It's american because the word 'preppy' actually comes from 'prep school' which is like a stereotype sort of thing of where we live.

Ahh I get it! Haha, I can't imagine any guys I know dressing like that!

now she's wearing a corduroy instead of bongo jeans ... she's a preppy girl ...

forgot how the song goes on from this line. :P
