What helps you sleep?

Featured Replies

Just asking cause I feel like I need to get into a proper ritual before sleep, something that helps me sleep more peaceful.

I find myself lying in bed awake tossing and turning for up to 3 hours some nights kind of daydreaming before I end up falling asleep, and I'd like to know if there's anything that could help.

i dont know... i try to empty my head and not think about anything because that keeps me awake. ;)

i also try not to do any exercise before going to sleep etc.

now im going to sleep. ill tell more tomorrow on this topic. :P

good night!

i'm pretty exhausted on weekdays, which makes it easy to fall asleep.

but i dunno... listen to music and try to get your head free.

whatsoever.

i mostly fall asleep while listening to quiet songs.

mhh.. eg "For You" by Coldplay. :laugh3:

I listen to music. Something nice and peaceful and cleansing, like The Shins or Coldplay. :)

I lay on my stomach and put my hands under the pillow.

The coolness of the bottom of the pillow helps me sleep for some reason.

Also, this is out there, but sometimes you just need a wank to help you sleep.:laugh4:

lol. :laugh3:

i waited for the first guy to say that.

Eating right before bed is supposed to help; your sleep, not your waistline though.

I just lay there until i fall to sleep, and try to get comfortable. I usually curl up in like, the fetal position :P under the covers. And I absolutely CAN NOT sleep with any light.

I have a dim light on (I tend to freak out if I wake up in the middle of the night and cannot see anything) and I listen to music and over the last few weeks I have realised that, Muse keeps me awake and Coldplay will have me asleeps by about Track 4...

I burn incense. That usually puts me to sleep in under an hour. It takes me hours to get to sleep if I don't.

I usually have a glass of milk and cookies, head upstairs, brush my teeth, put a CD in, read a magazine or book, and then fall asleep.

It can sometimes take me hours to fall asleep too. I like to listen to the radio quietly. that way, my own thoughts don't keep me awake. Sometimes I'll put on a movie that I know really well too. And meditation seems to help a lot...if I can relax enough to start.

Even though I've heard some bad things about this, I usually just watch some TV at night until I fall asleep. My thing is that unless I'm super tired, I stay up late and I don't feel tired at all. I sleep more in the morning, though. =) For me that's the best time to sleep.

Music. Every night before bed I listen to music. Can almost never fall asleep until i listen to a few songs.

easy, read a book until ur tired, always works ;)

or glass of warm milk or some banana. (both have some vitamin in them that make you want to sleep)

dim the lights/candle light

and if you can't fall asleep get up and do something for 15 mins and try again.

:D

Erm. Well, I like to be ALONE when i'm trying to sleep.

I just hate those sounds other people make bah. Even if they're trying to sleep as well. For me just breathing may be too much and snorring is totally something i can't stand.

But if i'm alone and can't sleep i usually try to read. I'm not much of a music person but if i'm really desperate then i'll try listening to music too.

easy, read a book until ur tired, always works ;)

true. this works like a charm. it did last night. was reading catcher in the rye and after about 15 minutes i was out.

the best thing is listening to music, something really mellow. i use to be able to fall asleep to takk... but now, all i wanna do is get up and dance (i've been Will-afied :D).

I don't recommend watching tv. You can spend quite a while flicking through channels and settling on the 2nd most boring thing to watch simply because it's not the 1st most boring thing on. really. also drinking some water or a hot drink (hot chocolate or tea). dr kathy out/

ugh, i have sleep issues as well. i find that a playlist i've made of quiet, nice music helps a lot. TV usually is the worst thing for me. reading is good, as most other people have said, but i find that if there's any way of reading on the COMPUTER, that helps tremendously. i do a lot of writing, so i have quite a few options, but something about reading a long bit of text on a backlit screen makes your eyes really tired and makes you feel exhausted. at least it does for me!

hope that helps!

Use Drugs.

Or

Listen to some classical chillout music with some lavender sent in the room.

i find writing stuff (poems, songs, journalling) really helps me to wind down.

...but i usually end up staying up for most of the night anyway, so i'm not going to be much help .

I got a sleep mask......... :shifty:

This sounds so depressing, but a good cry helps me go to sleep....

I don't cry my eyes out every night, hehe. But when I am just so full of emotions and feelings and need to let it out, I cry. And I sleep.

I just let myself get as tired as possible...readiing, or being on the internet. and then go. but there are other times, when you feel soooo tired and still can't sleep.

Sometimes when this happens, I go through a series of events in my head.....like a holiday Ive been on...I try to remember everything in order that I did each day and where I went. Trying to remember stuff, in the end, makes me tired and I fall asleep eventually.

i usually fall asleep quite easily. i only struggle to fall asleep when i'm very nervous or when i can't stop thinking about something. it usually helps me to get up again. i'm not really doing anything, i just have a cup of tea and read a book or a magazine, which normally helps me to relax. i also listen to music when i go to sleep.

Drugs. That will help you sleep :nice:

No, but honestly..read a book until your eyes are exhausted. Or even do something tiring during the day so you'll be dead tired once night time comes by.
