February 27, 200818 yr 8,9,10-Aug. http://www.summersonic.com/08/images/01artist.jpg According to this, Coldplay is confirmed as a headliner.
February 28, 200818 yr Yeh... are there any japanese members here? If there are, please tell us if you go!
February 28, 200818 yr This is now confirmed on Coldplay's MySpace: Summer Sonic Coldplay will be performing at Summer Sonic... August 9th, Tokyo, Marine Stadium August 10th, Osaka, Maishima On sale information coming soon...
February 29, 200818 yr That is cool. That means other dates could possibly come soon, although I'm curious to see how a brace of gigs in Japan in Aug. will fit in schedule wise with a summer tour in Europe and/or North America as has already been announced... Also, is it just me or does the Summersonic Lineup seem lighter this year as opposed to the past? Aside from coldplay (and possibly the verve), there seem to be fewer "big names" than usual. (off ion a bit of a useless tangent there...)
February 29, 200818 yr don't think I can make it but someone has to film or record it the best they can if this is there first leg of the tour! Anyone going from here?
March 1, 200818 yr I think Coldplay wanted to keep it quiet until they went and released the promo poster.
March 1, 200818 yr Author don't think I can make it but someone has to film or record it the best they can if this is there first leg of the tour! Anyone going from here? I don't think this will be the first leg of the tour. If the album is out in May, I'm sure they'll play some low profile gigs first, then play some festivals throughout the summer and play huge venues in the fall.
March 2, 200818 yr I don't think this will be the first leg of the tour. If the album is out in May, I'm sure they'll play some low profile gigs first, then play some festivals throughout the summer and play huge venues in the fall. What do you mean by low profile gigs? Arenas or what?
March 2, 200818 yr Some warm-up concerts with small publics probably. Then I can tell them Norway is an excellent choice:D
March 2, 200818 yr Coldplay announces Japan concert Chris Martin, lead-singer of Coldplay. Rock group to play Summer Sonic fest in August Coldplay will headline the 2008 Summer Sonic Festival in Japan. The band made the announcement this morning by posting the fest's newly minted flyer on their website. It's unclear whether or not the popular U.K. group will headline both nights (August 8th and 9th), but the Sonic performances come as a relief to many, as they are the band's first scheduled dates since debuting new material on a brief South American tour last year. Coldplay is currently mixing the much-anticipated follow-up to 2005's 'X&Y' in London and New York. "Mixing has been slow and painstaking but that's just the nature of the beast," guitarist Johnny Buckland writes on the band's site. No word yet on an official release date (the album is tentatively titled, 'Prospekt'), although reports suggest an early Summer release with a massive world tour to follow. The Summer Sonic Festival takes place August 8th in Tokyo and August 9th in Osaka and will also feature The Sex Pistols, The Verve, Alicia Keys and Fatboy Slim. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117981716.html?categoryid=19&cs=1

March 12, 200818 yr Coldplay 'Summer Sonic' Tour Dates Changed Coldplay have switched their Summer Sonic tour dates around. The new dates are as follows: August 9th, Osaka, Maishima August 10th, Tokyo, Marine Stadium
March 14, 200818 yr I might just have to fly to Japan for this. Exactly what I was thinking. Especially with the other bands there as well.
March 15, 200818 yr I think the bloke from the sun reported that they are getting paid something around £1.5 MILLION to do those 2 dates in Japan. If that is true, then I would be disappointed in Chris and co, they should donate most of that money to charity.
March 16, 200818 yr 1.2 million...why so much???? this reminds me of glastonbury 2005 Chris Martin @ Glastonbury: "So Four Months ago when Micheal called us and said would you play Glastonbury for an enormous fee, i'm mean for free, we said 12million, no we didnt we said we'd love to. hopefully they do give some of it to charity dave!
