March 1, 200818 yr Why did anyone care about Radiohead, who hadn't done anything of note since 2002? People still care about Coldplay because they deserve to be cared about. Any band that can write records like 'Parachutes' and 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' deserve attention for the duration of their career.
March 1, 200818 yr Parachutes and AROBTTH were both great albums with many good songs. Both were different from what they'd done earlier. X&Y wasn't that good, it seemed to try and duplicate the success Clocks got... the style we got in it was done before. It's probably their most commercial album, but it was probably to get new fans for their next album, because they probably thought of doing something different for the next one. We've got more fans because of X&Y tho, so more excitement for "42". But you can't count a band out because of one less-than-spectacular album compared to two good ones.
March 1, 200818 yr I mean ok, its fine to have an opinion about Radiohead, since it boils down to musical taste in the end. But some of those things he said just aren't true. 'Greenwood can't play that good' is such an ignorant statement to make. And when you put X&Y above OK Computer (and AROBTTH for that matter), no one is going to take you seriously. I don't agree with the comments on Thom's voice either. Try listening to Nude, and come back and tell me his voice is rubbish. Well said Zemy. March 2, 200818 yr Some of these Coldplay nuts just have to hear a little more :P And just for the record I don't hate Coldplay or anything, I just have an obsession over Radiohead, thats all.
March 2, 200818 yr One could say Radiohead grows on you - like moss grows on a roof (actually, I like moss growing on a roof, and I like a bit of Radiohead's works too!) Just that it's mood dependent with me - sort of like much of surreal music's effect on the mind and spirit.. Good messages to the medium. Coldplay - well, their music is very well done, and with great feeling.. They are big supporters of fair trade, and that's something I believe puts them on par with a "movement" band - a worthy cause to support. Plus the music is part of me.:) They go on tour all over the earth - and studio efforts take time for their depth of sound . BTW, Hey Briggins, when is your next album due out then? Hmmm?;):P
March 2, 200818 yr In regards to the live / studio topic, I'm afraid I'm going to mention Spoon again. (I feel like I've brought them up quite a bit already in other threads) Spoon is a weird band live. The singer (Britt Daniel) barks, screams, or growls his vocal parts and barely scrapes out a working falsetto. Virtually none of the band members move around; the keyboardist looks positively robotic. What's more, Britt Daniel is not that good at guitar - when the band played on Saturday Night Live, he actually hit a wrong chord during one of the songs. Here's the weird part: they are both faithful to and wildly different from the recordings during their shows. The early albums were raw, unpolished, and loud, which sounded much like the live performance. Their recent work is the complete opposite. Every detail of every song is fussed over to the extreme, and the vocals are smooth and laid back. The falsetto sounds effortless, and so does the guitar. What does this mean? That at one point, Spoon was no better on record than they were live. They had fans then, and they have fans now, including new fans who dig the studio polish. So whether Spoon sucks or rocks live is a matter of what it is you like about Spoon, not a set fact. This probably applies to Radiohead too. And X&Y is not nothing, even if it's not much.

March 2, 200818 yr To each their own, frankly. Exactly what I believe in. You can't compare X&Y to AROBTTH without remembering that X&Y has somethings that AROBBTH doesn't and vice versa. Same with Parachutes and it will be the same with 42 or prospekt or whatever the damn thing is called.
March 2, 200818 yr To each their own, frankly. Maybe, but there is such a thing as a wrong opinion. Like my mate who thinks Coldplay have no talent, he is wrong. And for what its worth X&Y was not only their most comericial as some dismiss it, it was just their most ambitious, arena rocky album. The problem I have with it is Chris seems to just assume everything about me the whole way through. 'Like some capapult thats fired you' X&Y has some stunning peices like Twisted logic, X&Y (a nice bit of A Day in the life homage) Low and White Shadows are great epics and Swallowed in the sea showed Coldplay are brilliant musically even if the lyrics seems like complete filler. Some people think X&Y is their best album, it was original and unique, theres nothing like X&Y out there right now.
