If ever there was a reason to shake one's fist at the Americans...

They just had to go and screw up daylight savings time even more than it already was.

I can't sleep. I got like 5 hours of sleep last night (need 8 or 9 to function) because of the time switch, I'm crazy tired, but I can't sleep. Not happening. And I'm the one who can fall asleep anytime anywhere if I want to. Even nights when I'm having trouble falling asleep I just change my breathing pattern and I'm out like a light. Not working now. This is so frustrating! :veryangry2: :wreck:

The thing is, the new time doesn't even make a difference this far north this soon. We have to keep all the lights on in the morning instead of at night, so same amount of energy used. But of course it would totally mess everything up if we were in different time zones than the States, so once again Uncle Sam gets to dictate something stupid.

Sorry for the rant, I'm tired. :bigcry:

hahaha, i know EXACTLY what you're talking about. when i'm not at uni, my bedtime is 1AM, which should be just about now, but it's actually 2AM because of DST and i feel like i'm being naughty by staying up this late. i'm an insomniac on a regular basis, anyway, so DST really doesn't help matters.

quick interesting fact, though:

DST is actually a british invention! i know we americans have screwed it up even more recently by making it earlier in the year in the name of saving energy (i don't think that it's making any noticible difference in energy consumption...), but the idea of DST was invented by william willett in 1905 in england. and just GUESS who mr. willett's direct descendant is? :D

CHRIS MARTIN!!

i can't hate DST too too much knowing this awesome little bit of trivia.

(sorry, i just had to share that...:p)

^

Sooo, we're are going to blame Chris for all the sleepless nights aren't we.

"When you feel so tired but you can't sleep" I think we know who's fault that is!!:laugh3:

poor girl! Yeah, Americans hardly feel the time change like Northerners do. We are NEVER bothered by stuff like no light at the right time.

If we ever encountered something as horrific as that, we'd build our own damn sun!

So I've heard. :smart:  But I'm still blaming this particular bit of misery on Bush, though. It's not so bad when it happens later in the year.

a time switch already? we have it on 30rd March I think ...

blehhh I'm sooo tired too. I don't remember any of my morning, that's how sleepy i was.

Today has been an extremely long day....2500 word paper due, pop test, bio presentation, night class....and now i have to prepare a tutorial for tomorrow.

AND the time change is killing me.

I hate losing the hour, and it always messes up my sleep schedule more than if already is, but I deal with seasonal affective disorder, so knowing the extra daylingt is there really helps. There's always a silver lining, I guess

I did a presentation in uni last year on SAD.

It's annoying. Once Spring comes I finally start getting up at a decent hour, lol. I tent to hybernate during the winter. If it weren't for the band I odn't know what I'd do with myself.

DST began as an idea cooked up Benjamin Franklin, and he couldn't get the US to switch, but the idea made it's way to Europe; eventually, someone in England thought it was brilliant - a way to make better use of productive working hours in the factories, I recall.. then Europe adopted it, and finally the Americas. So there - it's all Franklin's fault!:P (there's a website devoted to it - a good read on the history (which I have probably botched a bit..))

It's annoying for sure - the farmers and ranchers were against it, but the early industrialists loved it.. so there you go! The railroads gave us the time zones - I guess they're partly responsible as well..:)

I think, since it won't go away, it's best to transition slowly into the new mode, so it's not like some sort of jet lag.. and I can do without it as well - it's annoying.:smug:

...our Daylight Savings ends on the 30th of March :bigcry:

I don't hate it for sleep reasons, I hate it for talkings to the overseas peoples reason, because the time gets switched in both places and I get confused...

However, it is a pain waking up at 5:45am for schoo instead of the usual 6:45. Ugh.

"Slowly breaking through the daylight" my ass ;_;

this confusion shouldn't last long, i believe! in two or three days everyone should feel ok! :)

Gonna take more than 2 or 3 days now... got about 3 or 4 hours of sleep last night. Couldn't get to sleep until about 3 am and then because my parents alarm went off an hour earlier, it woke me up. :bigcry: :dizzy:

I woke up at 5:45am a few nights ago due to my alarm going off an hour early. The next few days were spent awaking at times varying from 5:30am - 6:30. When my normal waking time is around 7 :freak:

I thought it was bought in to make better use of the time for farm laborers.

And all I know is that British Summer Time doesn't kick in for 2 more weeks

I absolutely hate DST during the spring. It takes forever to get used to waking up at 6:30, which is technically 5:30 and the birds aren't even up yet. :dozey:

Aww, that sucks. In Arizona, we don't observe DST, so we don't have to worry about it. It saves power in the long run, especially solar power which is pretty popular here.

You guys should move here! :D lol

Don't like it, leave canada and go to a country that does something.

Don't like it, leave canada and go to a country that does something.

That doesn't make any sense.

Canada does nothing....no big artist, actors, scientist....you guys just bitch all day long about the world.

Well according to your definition of Canada you would fit in quite nicely. Perhaps you would be President.
