Sorry I wasn't arguing your post either lol, I was just thinking out loud and saying to myself well, it's not fair for me to say yes everyone is unfair on it because everyone has their own opinion on it, just like me saying 'yes everyone is unfair' is my opinion, and I meant 'you' as in the people that don't think they are too hard on X&Y, not one person in particular. I'm talking nonsense now, sorry, just clearing that up, didn't want to piss anyone off. I'm getting Keane-forum syndrome - that's quite a fragile place at the moment and you have to be careful what you say otherwise someone will pull a cyber-water-gun out on you or something like that. Anyway, I'll be quiet now :P

That's what I love about this place. You can (usually) state an opinion without getting jumped on. Maybe Tuesday wasn't such a great day for that, but normally we're a nice bunch! What's wrong on the Keane forum? They're not splitting, are they?

No they're not splitting, the forum's just gone a bit weird. There's people posting nasty comments about others and stuff like that, and someone started a thread to try and get everyone to talk things over, which didn't work because people started arguing, but I think it's ok now. There's also been idiots moaning about the band's updates on the homepage - they've been doing blogs, videos, pics etc, and some people are like "I don't like the pics, I want more videos" and stuff like that, when were lucky we're getting anything at all. I think there's just a lot of deluded people that expect too much from them. Oh yes, and there's a bit of a I Hate Jesse Quin campaign - Jesse is the guy who's been recording bass for Album 3, which some people don't like.

Ah, the usual then. Sorry to hear that. It's why I made the 'things off my chest' thread on Tuesday...not so people could talk unless they wanted to, but so that people could vent without venting at one-another. Seemed to help...me, at least:)

I rank X&Y above AROBTTH, but both below Parachutes. I know that's borderline blasphemy. LOL

As much as I enjoy the album, I can understand the criticism of X&Y, for the most part. The lyrics aren't terribly interesting (some sound like they're plagarized from "Contemplative/Rhetorical/Deep Sounding Lyrics for Dummies," which Angels and Airwaves currently uses exclusively), and it's maybe half a step too far on the wrong side of the musically generic line.

Thing is, though, it's immensely listenable. Beginning to end, it flows. It has its natural highs and lows. I feel like AROBTTH sacrificed listenability for complicated arrangements (something that VLV doesn't do, based on what I've heard). There are great songs on AROBTTH (Clocks, Warning Sign, Amsterdam, The Scientist), but a lot of the songs have never clicked with me, even years later (Politik, God Put a Smile, A Whisper, In My Place).

hahahha!!!!!!!

a week ago, after not listening to X&Y for about a year and a half, i would have trash talked it saying the lyrics are horrible and they took the direction they explored with clocks in AROBBTH too far. but i put in on last friday just to give it another shot, in anticipation for VLV and wow. i wont rank it above AROBTTH and parachutes but its definitely a great album. except for the ocassional brain fart in chris' lyrics. (beginning of swallowed in the sea)

Personally think its great

I really think that X & Y is an underrated album. I'd put it just below AROB. I'm not saying it's perfect, and some of the lyrics can be a little cliche and trite, like that brain fart on swallowed in the sea, but even that is a good song if you can overlook that. Talk has an absolutely KILLER fucking bass riff, even if that riff is taken from Kraftwerk, the song is amazing.

And I also think its a great album to fall in love to, at least I did ha. One of my girlfriends from hs and I used to listen to this almost every time we hung out for awhile, as well as driving around.

The only song that I don't love so much is twisted logic, it just grates on me after awhile (backwards, forward repeat, repeat, repeat). Still a decent song though, least the first few times. It's one of my least favorite Coldplay tracks though

Overall all though it really is something special I think.

And the b sides from this are really quite amazing, some probably should have been on the album. Proof is absolutely gorgeous, as is Gravity for that matter. And How You See the World and the World Turned Upside Down are really great songs.

Talk about trite, Proof is terrible. So sacharrine and mushy. X&Y's b-sides were horrible compared to the first two album's incredible catalog.

The only good songs on X&Y were the faster songs like Talk, Low, White Shadows, X&Y.

Great idea for a thread, Wingwl!!!

I honestly only got in to X & Y about a month ago. I bought it on it's first day of release but never really appreciated it. I didn't find it as accesible as Parachutes or as memorable as AROBTTH. It was darker, heavier, and I thought it was quite joy-less.

About I month ago I started listening to all three albums again (kinda like a warm-up for VLV), and all of a sudden, I got "it".

Still don't see the fuss that I read on this site about Swallowed In The Sea, but I've completely fallen for Twisted Logic, and I already loved the singles and "Til Kingdom Come" - that's probably in my all-time top 5 Coldplay.

I was in a little bit of a strange point in my life - maybe I was just not in the right place for more challenging music? Now, as a wise man once said, "Life Is For Living", and I'm absolutely ready to be blown away by Viva La Vida.

It tapers off with all of the mushy, saccharine crap like A Message, SITS, and Fix You. GAG ME. These type of songs on X&Y don't have the same heart or flowing lyrics that earlier Coldplay ballads had. They are a huge step down. This is where the album fails.

Incase you were wondering, Chris said (at a gig at Abbey Road) that SITS is Coldplay's best ballod apart from the Scientist. I happen to agree, although i'd probably put it first.

The album definitely has its flaws. But it had great reviews initially. And I still think it has some amazing moments. The only songs I don't really like on it are Speed Of Sound and The Hardest Part. And I never liked any of the B-sides.

Just listened to Low again. Still love the part with the spoons.:P

Yeah I never really liked Speed of Sound all that much, Hardest Part is better I think, maybe because I just didn't hear it played on the radio constantly.

And the faster songs are admittedly better, but I really think Proof is a beautiful song, as is Gravity. But I can understand how some people would think it's too trite, usually I hate songs that are that overtly sweet like you're saying. Chris just seems to sing it so sincerely to me that I don't hate it.

Swallowed in the Sea is a very good song, a few of the lyrics just annoy me a little too much to call it great, and that might turn some people off entirely

I've personally always liked the album. I mean in comparison to A Rush of Blood it lost it's value.

I think that was the problem initially it was compared to there previous work. I think for the most part it was them playing it safe. But in the long run i do like every song on the album just not as much as some of the others on the previous 2 before.

I definitely think this album is unfairly bashed. Fans can have their favorites, but in my opinion, its an excellent album along with their first two, and I became a fan with Yellow so I did like the different sound. I like how the band changes up their sounds on each album, they're all unique in my opinion and I think its great that Coldplay isn't afraid to mix it up. And by what we've heard from the new album, I'm looking forward to their new sound again. :)

^yeah, who wants a band that does the exact same types of songs over and over again? that would get boring, it's good for Coldplay to do a lot of different things that a lot of different people will like. And you know what? You don't have to like everything in order to be a fan. That's the beauty of it! You can love Parachutes and Rush of Blood and hate X&Y and VLV, but you can still always listen to what you like!

I remember when I first heard it, I was definitely disappointed but still sort of enjoyed it. Of course I loved SITS and Til Kingdom Come. The rest are kinda "ehhh" but I like it. I don't think CP have made a "bad" album. This just happens to be their worst.

That's pretty good if they haven't really even made a bad album.

Please don't throw rocks at me, but I think [stands the shield] X&Y is the best album of Coldplay. In Parachutes, I skip Parachutes and We Never Change and in AROBTTH I skip Warning Sign and AROBTTH, but I don't jump EVEN A MUSIC in X&Y. IMO, the WORST song of X&Y [stands the shield again] is 'Til Kingdom Come, but it's a GREEEAT song anyway!

Ok, I'm done guys

Dito. AROBTH is so well liked in here that I almost want to not like it. X&Y was not as instantly enjoyable for me as AROBTTH or P was but after several listens I couldnt stop listening. I dont know why people dislike it so much, even after they have explained themselves I am still confused. I played album again today and I just dont get it. Hmmmmm

I listened to all the CP albums today... and my opinion of them is pretty much what it has been for a long time.

1.) Rush o blood baby

2.) X&Y

3.) Parachutes

... wait, WHhhaaat did you say?! Parachutes... LAST?!

I honestly feel that the latter half of Parachutes is great but the beginning isn't that terrific or outstanding. I usually skip most of the first tracks. I, as someone above has stated, don't or rarely do skip tracks on X&Y.

And everything on Rush of blood is great. Seriously. That album is perfection. I understand people like to "go against the grain" and not like something because everyone else likes it... but I'm not going to be lame and do that. I like what I like.

I haven't kept up, but I've heard Coldplay are really disowning X&Y for whatever reason. Wonder if that means we won't hear many songs from that album on tour. If nothing else I'm in need of Fix You and Message. I imagine we'll get Talk eh?

Dont stone me but my personal opinion is

X&Y - one of the greatest albums ever written. Even better than AROBTTH (though that is still great). But X&Y tops it all.

Parachutes however, apart from Spies and sometimes Don't Panic I never listen to it. It's an album that's never done anything for me. I dont know, it's too mellow I guess and Yellow has always sounded rather plain to me.

I totally agree with you about X & Y. I honestly think its incredible

I do like parachutes though, it is very mellow at points but its very, very good. Yellow never really did anything for me, or In My Place for that matter

I agree I think it's definitely one of the greatest. I think as a fan from the start it was a shock to the system for me but it is the one for me (...so far)

However I LOVE putting Parachutes on when I haven't heard it in ages and reminiscing! :D

*Ahhh the good old days!*
