For some reason imagining Coldplay releasing a Nazi-themed album is sort of funny to me, though, lol. Maybe they'd go on tour with fake Hitler mustaches. It could be like The Producers and be a huge sell-out hit.

Oh I can completely understand what you mean... I would never support something like the French Revolution today. I'm a red-blooded American capitalist (libertarian, actually), so I'm not a Nazi or Anarchist, either.

 

I think we should just view this as a symbol of excitement and change, nothing more. Something makes me wonder if Coldplay and Brian Eno knew this would produce some controversy when they picked it... it is a good marketing strategy.

anarchy claims there's no bosses and so that people live in total freedom, without rules (at least not writen ones and as stricts as laws), it suppouse that everyone is responsable of their acts as they believe we all are equals.

 

nazi= national socialism.

nazi movement (which i believe is very close to communism) wanted that we all were equals, (forcing people to do so) so in their 'right' to do so, they socialized people to be all equals... and they kept the idea of 'patriotism'.(national)

 

anyways in politics more than other things, extrems meets too often and movements ends being represented by a person, so the ideal of the movement itself get lost very soon.

this is interesting :) some idea (like viva la vida) sometimes leads to death ahd all his friends

i agree with that - that imo was the intention of the band / artwork author.

Not a big fan, but then again when I first saw the X&Y art I thought "wow this really sucks!" but then I discovered the fun you could have with the code and I love it now.

I think the artwork will have to grow on me, but its an interesting choice though, just not my favorite.

i'm kind of really surprised that i LOVE it. originally when the rumor was out that it would be that painting, i said "oh NO, please no!" becuase it looked so un-coldplay, but i have to say that the addition of the messy "viva la vida" makes all the difference in the world, and i loove it. 4/5 stars for me.

All totalitarian governments will claim they are maximizing their citizens' freedom - the excuse they use is a kind of "freedom through discipline" argument. The argument is sort of similar to describing how musicians make beautiful music - they are "freer" to do it than someone who has never taken the time and effort (read: discipline) to learn an instrument.

 

Benjamin Franklin once wrote that anyone who would give up liberty for safety deserves neither liberty nor safety. I think I agree with him, so I lean anarchist (although I'm not sure humanity is at a point where we can disband governments yet - but it might happen in the next 500 years).

it's just kind of funny for me because back in high school, i had to read a book about the french revolution for a project, and this painting was on the cover, so it's kind of weirding me out that this is going to be my new favorite ALBUM!

 

it's very different than their other album covers, but i still like it a lot. even though X&Y will always be my favorite cover, i think.

it's ok i guess.. Im not a fan of that painting but oh well.

 

I would have liked more if they had used those red and black stripes on their site as the cover. I do like that they chose to keep only "viva la vida"!

for the painting, the Title in French is "La Liberté guidant le peuple" it's a 1830 Delacroix, it can be seen at the Louvre Museum in Paris, it was also displayed on the 100 Fr banknotes and some postal stamps
