A Spell A Rebel Yell isn't that good...

Hello, guys. Let's come back a week ago...

I was KINDA happy Violet Hill would be released, I made a program in VB6 to tell me with a kinda loud "Speed of Sound" when the music get released, I downloaded the Violet Hill in some seconds, at the speed of light (483kb/s), burned in a CD and listened it on my 5.1 home theater. I was REALLY expecting the BEST music of the history of Coldplay, and I GOT IT. Unfortunavely, I can't say the same from ASARY.

Short, eletronic, bad lyrics, bad effects on voice, and so on.

If ASARY would be released in VLVODAAHF, Everything'd Be Lost now. I just keep hopefull 'cause it's just a B-Side.

If you think the same as me, please join me in this topic. And if you have REAL arguments to reply to my opinion, feel free to post here.

LOL... What's the point listening to a MP3 encoded in 192 kbps on a 5.1 home theater?

ain't it a bit like putting ice in a glass of champagne.

Wait to have the CD, the power of the instruments, of the sound, will be much more improved...

meh :uhoh: are you serious navegador?

is has wonderful lyrics, for me it is about creation itself, that not an easy thing to describe, sing about... and this one being short makes it more lovely.

and about the music, yes can may be a bit weak, but is very colourful. :nice:

stop making these threads

In my first post, I said that ONLY WHO HAD REAL ARGUMENTS TO TALK ABOUT ASARY could discuss here. So, bye!

I don't hate ASARY at all, but it doesn't even get at the feet of VH, so, I think I'll stick with VH.

@costello

For VH, I already have my opinion.

For ASARY, It may changes since this is just a poor-quality and maybe a fkin' radio cut of it. Anyway, I'll wait some hours to see if someone will rip it off from the 7" Disc.

OK, for my first REAL argument, I'll say this: As I've said before, this is an open forum, and people who are tired of excessive threads should be allowed to post their feelings...Thank You Justin.

Second off: I agree it's not their strongest song, (although I personally like it, as a child of the 80s) but as has already been said, it's a b-side. If that's the worst they can do, then this IS going to be a great album. We expect so much of them because they're a favorite band, that if they don't do something EPIC we piss and moan about it. They're no more prefect than any other band we love. They're going to make b-sides, and even c-sides and d-sides,lol. They GAVE us this track for free...they never said it would be monumental...

If you don't like it, that's fair. To each their own, but the board is getting so convoluted with these 'I love it' 'I hate it' threads that I'm starting to lose track. If you're not getting a REAL argument, maybe it's because arguing won't fix anything.

Wake me up about 4 weeks after the album's out, and the Mods have swept up around here, and I'll be back.

fin.

I don't think it was a case of 'stop making threads that are critical of the song' (everyone is entitled to their opinion). It's a case of looking to see if there's already a thread that is similar to how you feel about the song (i. I hate this song, or I love this song) and post it there, instead of making your own thread. If every member made their own thread for each song, this website would crash. So basically, use some common sense.

A Spell a Rebel Yell

When people were telling how they hate "A Whisper" Chris was saying that they tried something new in this song so they like it.I think this song is the same. They just tried something new and for me it worked.I'm in love with this song from now on cuz at least they are brave enough to try new things.

I agree, I love A Whisper. Part of the fun of hearing new Coldplay songs is the different sound "textures" they have... each feels different to your ears. I hope that continues.

why not? what's the point in only writing good things about Coldplay?

but I think the song is good, by the way.

It's not that people shouldn't say bad things about coldplay, it's that their are dozens of threads saying I love this, or I hate that, when they needn't make a new thread at all. Just post on the thread "A spell a rebel yell" or "violet hill opinions" instead of always making new threads that clutter up the forum.

I don't understand why somebody says that ASARY isn't so good.. I think it's a beautiful song even 'cause is't such an experiment for them.. I'm disapponeted by the people that say they are Coldplay fans and then at the first NEW song start complaining about it..

The only thing that bothers me about this song is that they're not being Coldplay, they're being U2, albeit 20 years late.

I find nothing Coldplayish about it. As far as I can tell, the only band member involved in it is Chris. What happened to the instrumentals that made songs like Amsterdam and Shiver so great?

Then again, I could say the same for Radiohead in their transition to Kid A. However, Radiohead did it already almost 10 years ago. If Coldplay's trying to do the same thing, then they're trying to be Radiohead too, though this time it's 10 years late.

I agree.

Its a nice song, for sure, and I like its dream-like atmosphere, but really they just end up sounding like something they're not. They are already a similar band to U2, in that they make songs about love and loss (etc), in a soft-rock-fashion. If anything, this song proves that Coldplay can emulate U2 almost perfectly.

Its only a B-side though, so I don't think its much to worry about.

They started being u2 in 2002 actually. And its that influence that made live 2003 so great with songs like one I love and moses.

There can only be one singer, and I along with the synths jonny's got his fx on full blast, wills there on percussion and I'm inclined to believe guy is there too. The gang's all here. And until the end, amsterdam is a one man show.

If this song speaks for the whole album it'll be a whole lot more like joshua tree than Kid A, and radiohead doesn't have a patent on radical new directions.

In any case, it's a b-side, not on the actual album, and the band is allowed to explore weird ideas that people might dislike. This could just be an ammage to u2, the 80s and "mothers of the dissappeared". A fun project that's not meant to be judged like tracks on the actual album.

It is a good thing that it's just a b-side. It's really experimental and I don't think I would've liked it if it was on the album.

Doesn't mean I don't like it. Especially the lyrics are great.

By far the strangest Coldplay song (and it's a good thing to have some strange songs imo).

I like it because its different. It has a 80's sound to it which i like the bass line that comes up at 16-18 seconds and onwards is nice . If it were on the album i wouldnt be to impressed, but its not its a b-side there supposed to be a bit different, sort of experiments. Coldplay have said before on X&Y they are suckers for 80's guitar riffs and sounds which they showed a bit with X&Y. But i do like this is nice and smooth.

that's true to the sense that these kind of posts get pretty annoying. The song is good but eh. I like it, very 80s but I dunno, this didn't have as much of a PUNCH as Violet Hill did.

lol, yesterday, I thought of Violet Hill when I was scrolling through my iPod and was all, "gah, why is Coldplay like that now?"

Then, I listened to ASARY and was all, "eh this is boring". So, I decided to listen to Violet Hill and when I heard the intro, I was like, "YEAH! This is my Jam right here!"
