His album (For Emma, Forever Ago) is one the most beautiful works of art I have heard in ages, so simple yet so efficient.

 

Joint album of the year so far for me.

 

Following the break-up of his previous band, Justin Vernon secluded himself to a cabin in northwestern Wisconsin for three months planning to "hibernate." Three months of solitude resulted in the creation of For Emma, Forever Ago. "All of his personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt that had been stock piled over the course of the past six years, was suddenly purged into the form of song."

 

The record is entirely the creation of Justin Vernon, "despite its complexity, the record was created with nothing more than a few microphones and some aged recording equipment."

i love this album.

 

skinny love is so emotional,liking it all but the first four are the standouts so far

same here, my fave is Skinny Love, i can't stop listening to that song now.

If its one of David's favourite albums this year I'll have to check it out. I've listened a little on pitchfork and myspace and liked what I heard.

My only worry is that technically it's a 2007 album

He self-released a small number late last year, but the album got it's 'proper' release on a record label in February.

First listen: sounds excellent.

Have listened to For Emma 3 times now.

It took me some times to get into this album, and I really like it now. He sounds pretty similar with Fleet Foxes imho.

I love this guy. The emotion put into the album is staggering really.

^on January 20th, but it has already leaked on the internet. I think that they already sell that EP during their shows.

I Will do! :D, If I can find it....I am obsessed with Re:Stacks, it's amazing, a pretty long song, but oh so listenable! And Skinny Love is really cool as well, as are all of them! OH GOD! It's amazing :D
