it's sad when a member of a classic band has to insult the most popular band of this day and age JUST to get some recognition. Isn't this guy supposed to be famous? Aren't there WORSE bands out there he could be insulting? I guess not...at least, if you want to get some publicity.

lol another funny thread today. this guy is hilarious. i love how so many people get the wrong impressions about this band. they are quite honestly the least insufferable band out there today, and i say that wishing sometimes they could be more so lol. like theyre music videos can take something that seems very serious and make it hilarious. you get this video idea going in your head, and then they turn it into a joke. sure it sucks at first, but then you realize thats why you love this band...they dont take themselves at all seriously.

 

i never paid much attention to the music industry and its inner workings and squabbles until recently, and i find it hilarious how many people within the industry hate or act like they hate each other. its just plain rotten:lol:

Johnny certainly is entitle to his opinion, there's no denying that The Sex Pistols were at minimum as big as Coldplay back in their day, but music changes. I'm sure there's a lot of Jazz and Blues artists from the 40's who had something to say about The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, it's just a never-ending cycle. In fact, as a University student, I look back at school students today and the way they conduct themselves in public and think to myself "pathetic...". I suppose it's all relative.

Wow people... get a grip. Why is it that anything remotely critical of Coldplay causes a mass circus of insults on here? Why is everybody taking this so seriously? Why is everyone so offended... I love Coldplay and the new album... so what does it matter what anyone else thinks?

 

Anyone on here who is trying to bring down the Sex Pistols and their relevance in musical history just because Johnny insulted Coldplay is kidding themselves. I'm not trying to insult anyone here at all, I just don't understand why a large proportion of this message board is ridiculously overprotective/defensive of coldplay?

 

My two cents...

I tend to agree with you miracle drug, however, I believe the situation can easily be explained by two factors

 

1. This board is mostly populated by people who are big enough fans of CP to seek out, and post on a forum dedicated to them, meaning that they are also far more likely than the average person to be defensive (sometimes in the extreme) of the band. Coupled with the fact that coldplay tends to be the reciepient of more "bashing" then a lot of other bands, and the situation compounds somewhat...

 

2. The population of these boards is skews young. Although the Sex Pistols, were a hugely influential band, a great deal of their influence was cultural (unlike say, the Beatles who both influenced the culture and produced a huge amount of music that's still listened to widely today) Most of the posters in this forum probably have only the slightest awareness of who The Sex Pistols are, as aside from fans of old school punk, few actually listen to their music today. Seeing as half of Coldplay wasn't even born until after the Pistols had imploded, I'd be willing to bet that few of their fans remember, or even have any concept of the cultural upheaval surrounding the pistols and see them simply as "some dinosaur band". Ironically, Lydon's work in PiL probably paved the way for the ambient soundscapes used so heavily by band's like Coldplay...

Not everyone is too young to remember the pistols...I was only a kid when they were around, but in the 9-s I had Never Mind The Bollocks on vinyl, cassette and eventually CD. I still listen ti it, and I still think it

s a great album. And yeah, PiL were amazing and groudbreaking. Johnny's going to pretty much lash out at everything that lives, so I wouldn't pay much attention.:)

Haha - I was just on yahoo and there was a clip of John Lydon ranting and raving about everything, insulting all new bands and all music but his own and insulting the interviewers at the Mojo awards red carpet... I would say he's entitled to his own opinion about Coldplay, but after that rant he's clearly just nuts and hates everyone!! :laugh3:
