ohhh I like that shirt too!

i also must say that i love that shirt chris has on :D

He wore that for Jo Whiley on UK album release day too...for a multimillion pound earning popstar he's got a tiny wardrobe, bless 'im!

Ps. Am thrilled for them, EVERYTHING they've done except The Hardest Part deserved Number 1 :)

I thought you meant The Hardest Part deserved number one then

Thankfully you didn't :D

No. I get upset by The Hardest Part for two reasons. The bendy old lady and the fact that IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN WHITE SHADOWS!

White Shadows > Hardest Part

But I still think Swallowed In The Sea should have been the last single.

Ahh, it feels like 2006 again :P

yep cant believe they havent had a no1 before this.

but this makes up for it (kinda) lol. yyyyyeeeeeeyyyyyy!!!!!

and swallowed in the sea definatly should of been released as a single :D

swallowed in the sea is my favorite song of that album... it's beautiful!

Chart-toppers playing to win

THIS is all getting a bit Manchester United.

COLDPLAY completed their domestic double yesterday by topping the UK singles AND album charts.

Viva La Vida — released only on download — is the lads’ first No1 track here, while album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is in the top slot for a second week.

The single is also No1 in the US. And the band are tipped to claim a quadruple by topping the American album chart next week.

Plus they have another single in the UK Top 20, with Violet Hill at No11.

Unlike your average footie star, frontman CHRIS MARTIN celebrated his multiple wins by taking his kids Apple and Moses, to London Zoo.

I wonder if he visited the footballers’ enclosure?

seems to be contagious, I posted an article in the 2008/2009 Premier League thread yesterday which was comparing Cristiano Ronaldo to Coldplay :stunned:

Yay for them..that's a fantastic news

go Coldplay... I can't wait to see in how many other countries they're number 1

Coldplay Clinch UK and US Number Ones For The First Time

coldplay_viva_f.jpg

Viva la Vida, the title track from Coldplays fourth album, has topped the UK singles charts. This is a first for the band who until now, despite their long standing history, have never had a number one single.

Though tracks such as Yellow, and the more recent Clocks, have enjoyed success within the top ten, the release of Viva la Vida has allowed the four-piece band to enjoy yet another triumph.

Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends is currently at the top of the UK Album charts for the second week in a row, making this week a double celebration for Coldplay.

According to HMV, the single's success is currently based entirely on downloads as no hard copies are available on sale as yet.

The party doesn't end there either. On Thursday Chris Martin and the boys also topped the US album charts. There were smiles all round as Viva La Vida also clinched Coldplay their first US number one as it sat proudly atop the US Billboard charts.

The success of Viva La Vida knocked last weeks number one, Singin' In The Rain by dance act Mint Royal, down to number eight. Elsewhere in the UK singles chart Chris Brown saw considerable success with his single Forever rising up to number five and Jordin Sparks' single No Air, featuring Chris, coming in at number ten.

Rihanna's Take A Bow slipped down a place to number three, overtaken by Ne-YO who climbed one spot to number two with his single Closer.

The UK album chart saw a number of new entries this week. Darren Styles entered at number 4 with Skydivin' (All Around The World.)Feeder came in at number 8 with their fourth studio album Silent Cry and this was followed by the debut album from Sara Bareilles, Little Voice, in at number 9.

Coldplay album breaks through 500,000 UK sales in 10 days

10:46 | Monday June 23, 2008

Although understandably unable to maintain the hectic sales pace it set on its first three days in the shops, Coldplay’s Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends sold a further 197,978 copies last week to surge past the half million sales mark in just 10 days, and remains well clear of its rivals at the top of the albums chart, while the band lands its first-ever number one single.

Already the year’s second-biggest selling artist album – Duffy’s Rockferry, up 3-2 this week on sales of 46,027, has sold 852,111 copies since its release 16 weeks ago – Viva La Vida… has sold 500,052 copies so far.

Overall, sales of Viva La Vida dipped 34.5% week-on-week, but it did remarkably well on downloads, which slipped by a more minor 16.7% to 25,613. That lifts 10-day download sales of the album to 55,991.

After reaching a 2008 high of 2,810,459 sales in the previous frame boosted by Father’s Day and Coldplay, the market understandably contracted considerably last week, sliding by 21.9% to 2,194,835. More encouragingly, that is 3.2% above sales of 2,126,679 in the same week last year, when The White Stripes’ Icky Thump debuted at number one on sales of 66,249.

Ne-Yo moves Closer to number one spot

Coldplay may have to settle for only a week at number one on the UK singles chart with Ne-Yo gearing up to take their place.

Early sales figures suggest the Def Jam/Mercury track Closer will overtake Coldplay’s Viva La Vida this weekend with the Parlophone track currently around 2,000 sales behind Ne-Yo.

A close-run battle elsewhere in the top five has Columbia’s Sara Bareilles, Def Jam/Mercury’s Rihanna and Jive/RCA’s Chris Brown presently separated by little more than 200 sales at this stage.

Columbia act Glasvegas are currently positioned to claim the chart’s highest new entry this coming weekend with Geraldine at eight in the midweeks, while A&M act Courteeners are set to debut in the Top 20 with No You Didn’t No You Don’t.

New entries to the Top 40 are also expected from Asylum act Ironik and Warner Bros’s Elliot Minor, while Almost Gold/Mercury’s Black Kids are expected to move from their current position of 171 into the Top 40 this Sunday.

While Coldplay face a challenge to hold onto their singles crown, their status at the top of the UK artist albums chart looks safe for a third week with Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends presently selling at more than twice the rate of its closest challenger, A&M/Polydor’s Duffy with Rockferry.

EMI act Sigur Ros will beat their previous albums chart peak of 16 achieved by Takk in 2005 with Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust heading for a top-five entry. It will be joined in the Top 10 by Jive/RCA’s Chris Brown’s Exclusive, which will make a steep climb from its present chart position of 142, while Hollywood Records’ self-titled Jonas Brothers album – released in the UK by Universal rather than Hollywood's usual partner EMI - is expected to enter in or around the 10.

Anyone know when we might possibly see the next single? :)

Ne-Yo is on physical this week so he gains the advantage, 2k is still a slim gap and hopefully Coldplay can catch it up :P

I don't believe that Coldplay could lose their chart position so soon. Viva la vida is too good to be beaten by this horrible Ne-Yo :veryangry:
