Featured Replies

u2 will probably take sales and the big grammy awards. maybe coldplay has a grammy shot with viva la vida (song) however

neither will be album of the year for me, unless the new U2 album is perfect

Grammys and most awards are a load of shit. Who fookin cares what those tools think. Who will win...fans of music as we will get two stellar LPs in the same year.

Well said Angie

hmmm, i am a much bigger fan of coldplay's than U2, but i must say, even if their new album is half as good as VLV, it will still win in album sales. U2 is without a doubt the world's biggest band.

One day, maybe five or ten years from now, some members of a different forum for a different band might be having this discussion about their band's new album vs. a new coldplay one, and then coldplay will be in the same position as U2 :) ;)

btw my name is justin nice to meet you alll.

lol i think youre wrong x & y beat htdaab there is no way u2 can beat coldplay in sales worldwide i think u2 is gonna get the grammys even if their album is worst than coldplay.

What album do you think would be the album of the year for you then?

Who says's that the U2 fans aren't nervous since VLVODAAHF came out?

Coldplay's new album is wonderfull, tons of great tracks and really their most 'complete" album imo. However, I do believe that whatever U2 has in store for us will blow us all away.

"the December 2006 issue of Q Magazine, The Edge said that the band is pursuing melodic songs. In December 2007, Bono announced in an interview that the new album will include trance influences and a "dancefloor shock." According to Bono, "There's some trance influences. But there's some very hardcore guitar coming out of The Edge. Real molten metal. It's not like anything we've ever done before, and we don't think it sounds like anything anyone else has done either"

whoever said the new lil wayne album might win it could be right. it got good reviews. i wonder... but its only june. we got a while 'til then

I totally agree with the first part i loved all of U2's albums, even HTDAAB

hold on people. what do we mean by "album of the year" are we talking about the biggest album of the year in terms of anticipation build up hype and all that. or are we going purely on number of sales worldwide. or rather is this a debate about which album is better in terms of critical acclaim and also our personal opinions. for me VLV is no where near no1 for this year already. i think the raconteurs and death cab for cutie hav produced much better albums this year as have The Presets on the dance scene.

but sticking to what people have said so far. i think coldplay will have the "bigger" album simply because U2 no longer has much of a younger audience. i rarely ever bump into any one in their teens who can name more than two U2 songs whereas coldplay dominate basically every market from tweens to middle aged people.

i hate ENO he purposly saved his best ideas for U2 i just know it he also tried to sabotage coldplays new album by not letting chris play the piano and by telling them not to put the best songs in the album!!!!!!!!!

Whoever said Lil Wayne might be a contender for "Album of the Year" is also obviously someone who has no familiarity for the [Grammy] academy's nomination process. It only got "Good Reviews" from hip hop critic's from the South (Who also think that Soulja Boy is the best rapper out right now ... catch my drift?! LOL) There is a big big difference from getting nominated for "Best Rap Album of the Year" and "Album of the Year" ... Numbers do not suggest any facts when it comes to the Grammy's ... Hence the reason why we all were mainly shocked the Herbie Hancock was awarded the Album of the Year. but damn its going to be a tough one between U2 & Coldplay ... I really hope Coldplay gets it at the moment ... But I guess I will have final judgment as soon as their [u2] newest LP drops ...

Lil Wayne album of the year...I almost laughed at that one. Just because people buy something doesn't mean it's quality.

I don't remember how the Foo Fighters did at the Grammy's this year but I remember thinking their album deserved more accolades.

even if the u2 album is worse its gonna win its a fact they vote atyclb even that they knew arobtth was better so no doubt. and no offense to anyone u2 was great for me until achtung baby the rest is crap. but i think their album its gonna blew the mind of their fans i dont think im gonna like it.

We are talking about the Grammy's 2009 Awards show and who will get the award for "Album of the Year" Quantity doesn't give it quality ... Just because something is memorable, it doesn't make it amazing unless it indeed is AMAZING ...

Anticipation and all the promotional "hoop-lah" doesn't mean crap if it didn't deliver and possibly evoke emotions !!! I also have to kind of disagree with your statement about Coldplay's album. I'm sorry I understand the good lord's saying "To each, is Own" but dang, I have Death Cab's newest album and, I do agree that it definitely served great productions and incredible vocals ... you can't deny Coldplay's newest work ... There has not been anything of this artistic magnitude since Pink Floyd's transition from Dark Side Of the Moon, to "The Wall" ...

Does it really matter?

Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie and The Raconteurs have released phenomenal albums this year. I'm just happy for that! (Lil Wayne might have too, but I dont know...)

If U2 does the same, then 2008 has been an awesome year for music!

You are right about your analysis because I remember when watching the 2006 Grammy's when U2 won the album of the year award over Kanye West's "Late Registration" (who unarguably deserved it out of the other nominees in that category), with an album that they made 2 years then and, were previously nominated for in the year before ... SMH ... LOL :embarassed:

The only thing Lil Wayne delivered for Hip-hop was, more criticism from people outside of the genre looking in to scold us [hip-hop culture], hence Noel vs. Jay-Z over Glastonbury.

And besides ... why are people trying to make it seem like this thread isn't about a competition, and are now trying to play this down as if it were an immature thing to do ???? !!![discuss maturely about music]

i think they can deny it, there was an article who say that in 2003 grammy award a lot of members would liked to vote for arobtth but finally they vote for u2.so the grammies doesnt matter they are only a elite group and i think most of the people there, vote for interest and other things maybe in the past they were better but nowadays nop they dont have credibility for me.

Because I dont think competition between musical interests can be handled fairly.

There are millions of people who could careless about U2's and Coldplays albums. I believe that awarding any artist "album of the year" is a bit unfair. Who votes? Not the people.
