Does Anybody Here Like X&Y, RoL, CSC, etc.?

I didn't think the album X&Y was that bad as people say. I mean I could've done without Twisted Logic, but other than that I really liked it :)

 

Also, people are saying that RoL is just of piece of shit song when it really isn't that bad. It isn't what I would've liked it to been, experimental and all, but it was still a nice piece that in my opinion fits well with LIJ.:D

 

Also, in my opinion CSC is one of my favorites and the album (then again I can't even decide which song is my favorite), especially when it kicks into Jonny's guitar solo!:cool:

 

It just seems to me that people listen to these songs and think, "Oh, well that's not as good as VLV or not as good as 42," but they are still pretty cool songs!:cool:

Reign of Love I don't really care for, it doesn't do much for me.

 

I don't hate X&Y but I think it's probably their worst effort (not saying it's bad). There's a good batch of songs that came off it though (Square One, X&Y, Talk etc.)

X & Y was more like a very very soft album, and I must say, the album fits to the year it was released, I mean, 2005 was like a very soft and good year for me.

There are only a few Coldplay songs I really can't stand, and they're mostly ones that everyone else likes (Shiver, Fix You, etc.).

 

X&Y (the album) was totally disorganized, but I can't really not like it since it has several of my favorites: White Shadows, A Message, Swallowed in the Sea, Twisted Logic...wait, why don't you like that one?! :P

 

Reign of Love isn't bad, just incomprehensible...though since one of the few clear lines is "Oh how I wish I'd spoken up," that may be intentional. Chinese Sleep Chant is just kind of uninteresting; it doesn't really have lyrics ("Sleep, Sleep [something], Sleep...") and most of the music is kinda washed out with noise. But it's not like it sounds really awful. I'd sure rather listen to that than Shiver. :P

I don't think that coldplay would be at the place they are today if they hadn't have made

X & Y, they can learn from that album, not that I thought it was a bad one, there are only about 2 or 3 songs on it that I don't like, and the same with the first 2 albums. And as for RoL, I like it, granted not one of the strongest songs on the album but on VLV there is not one bad song on it, which is a vast improvement in my book for me personally!!!

There's a clear difference between X&Y and A Rush of Blood to the Head.. There might not be many songs of X&Y that you guys dislike, but the complete quality of X&Y is nowhere near to AROBTTH.

I'm one that really really liked x&y, no its not arobtth, but I never expected it to be. I appreciate it for what it is and there really is not one song on that record I dislike. I like all of the 3 first albums about the same for different reasons. Its too early for me to weigh in definitively on the new record as a whole but, Reign of love, I do not care for. I think the basic song structure underneath the layers of sound is nice but in its current version I just cant enjoy it. I do like Chinese sleep chant, I find myself listening to that all the time. It has a bit more of their old school sound, vocal tricks aside.

ROL just isnt up to par with the rest of VLV... Its kinda boring and the lulaby has been done better. Much better. Its weakness is its simplicity. Its also its strength. On another album it may have "fit" better having said that it never would be a "stand out" or "highlight" of any album.

 

CSC on the other hand is fantastic in my opinion. A sonic dreamscape that surpasses its name. Its been said in other threads that Chris is using his voice as another instrument... Hes is GREAT at it. This song IMO is a highlight. It arguable that it outshines Yes, the song its "hidden" behind. It should have earned its rightful place as an official listed track in my book.

 

X&Y- Ive said before and will say again. Its good. It took forever for it to sink in for me. The other 3 albums were so instantly enjoyable. I dont like all of it. Some of it I really dont care for at all. Overall, its memorable and worthy of being a Coldplay album. Its a hell of alot better than many other 2005 albums that were throw aways...

Personally, I think people just hate on these songs because they're new, if they were released on AROBTTH, would we consider them good just becuase they came from that album?

If ROL was on AROBTTH I would like it better than Green Eyes... Green Eyes is probably the one Coldplay song I can honestly say I hate... Cant stand it. Everything else on AROBTTH is so good that ROL wouldnt stand a chance. Sorry, just how I feel.

X&Y is probably the most underrated song on the album of the same name. incredible guitar. As for the others, reign of love is a really good and relaxing interlude, I almost always keep listening after lovers in japan, and I sometimes prefer CSC to yes, but unless I split them (too lazy) I'll have to listen to both.

X&Y was the album that made me a true Coldplay fan so I have a particular soft spot for it. It also has a lot great songs on it, even if its not their best, I defintiely don't think its as bad as people seem to think. As for Reign of Love, I think it's a gorgeous song. Its simplistic and sweet. I like listening to it considering most of the album is pretty heavy and complex. And weirdly, I don't think of Chinese Sleep Chant as a song. I don't know why, but I don't. I listen to it occasionally but I probably skip it more often than not.

Agree with your statement about ROL wrecking a great song. CSC would have made a better hidden track of LIJ and they could have just left ROL off if you ask me.

I'm very atypical in my posture on X&Y... it is the album which turned me into a Coldplay fan! I heard it online when it was being streamed just prior to release and got hooked by it immediately. Speed of Sound, Talk & White Shadows were instantly recognizeable. The rest grew on me, one at a time.... except Twisted Logic. I have a fused, associative aesthetic experience every time I hear this album and it hasn't diminished in the almost three years that I've listened. I still even enjoy Fix You!

 

I flat don't get the X&Y hate, even among Coldplay fans. Yeah, I understand the stigma that it has working against it - it's got a lot of melodic, hooky songs, some of which are heavily produced. I won't deny that, but I also can't deny that for whatever reason, the whole body of work (Twisted Logic notwithstanding) works for me as an enduring album. In fact I rank it as my #4 album of all time.

 

I know that AROBTTH is held up as the Dark Side of the Moon of Coldplay albums, but I wouldn't be listening to AROBTTH today if X&Y hadn't opened my eyes to the wizardry of Coldplay. I should add that I loved "Clocks" when it hit the air, but I fugured that Coldplay was a one hit wonder at that time and never looked any further into who was behind this wonderful song. I hadn't heard Yellow, or Don't Panic off the Parachutes album. It wasn't until after X&Y that I heard the rest of Coldplay's work. Looking back on it, I can't figure out how I missed hearing it, other than to point to the dearth of FM music stations in my area...

I love Reign of Love. I would like it at my wedding if I ever got married, along with several others of theirs. It's just so beautiful. And I also love Chinese Sleep Chant. Reign of Love is a savory piece IMO, but I can easily concede that it's for special tastes. I see it as a bit of musical exploration by the band and I've come to appreciate it, even though I think it would be a better fit elsewhere in the album.

 

I didn't like Chinese Sleep Chant the first couple of times I heard it, but it grew on me after thinking of it as more of a.... well.... "chant". It's almost like it's a mood inducing mantra, and I like the places that it takes me. I'm not listening to it for any deep, lyrical message because it's not intened to have one, IMO.

Well X&Y is what got me into Coldplay, so I really can't hate it. But now that I look back, I find it wasn't as good as the others (except Rush of Blood because I'm weird like that). While A Message is one of my favorite songs of all time, a lot of the other songs just don't seem to stand out as well as Square One or Speed of Sound.

 

Reign of Love I really don't like. Probably because it follows Lovers in Japan, which for me, is hard to top. :P

 

As for Chinese Sleep Chant, I really enjoy it. To me, it's a non-crappy version of A Whisper. Really hated that song.
