July 18, 200817 yr British rockers COLDPLAY has pulled some of their merchandise from the stands on their current U.S. tour - because it is "c**p", according to frontman CHRIS MARTIN. The singer and his band were so let down with the quality of the items that they demanded the goods be taken off their shelves - even though this ultimately means less money for them. Martin says, "We were in the dressing room in L.A. looking at some of the stuff and much of it, especially some of the t-shirts, looked terrible. "We put so much work into our music. The same quality control has to extend to stuff being sold at our shows and we made that clear. It has to be a no c**p zone." http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/coldplay%20pull%20plug%20on%20tour%20merchandise_1074699
July 18, 200817 yr Author Coldplay want merch better COLDPLAY singer CHRIS MARTIN is known to be a perfectionist. You only have to listen to the attention to detail on new album Viva La Vida to realise that. But now that has extended to the band’s tour merchandise, with Chris insisting some of it is pulled from the shelves and replaced. He’s said he wants every area of the 67-date tour, which started in Los Angeles on Monday, to be a “no c**p zone”. Chris revealed: “We were in the dressing room in LA looking at some of the stuff and much of it, especially some of the T-shirts, looked terrible. “We put so much work into our music. That same quality control has to extend to stuff being sold at our shows and we made that clear. It has to be a no c**p zone.” The band stand to lose bags of cash for each day the stock is off the shelves but they are sticking to their guns. While they may be picky about their merchandise, they’re not so fussy over the TV shows they watch. The band’s bassist GUY BERRYMAN has revealed the boys are massive Neighbours fans. That will do nothing for their, already dubious, rock ’n’ roll credentials. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/article1437883.ece
July 18, 200817 yr Neighbours fans. I am afraid. Err, merchandise... can live without it but the already sold stuff from the Brixxy/MSG/Barcy gigs will be worth heaps because of it.
July 18, 200817 yr Coldplay make merchandise 'no crap zone' Chris Martin and co dump dodgy T-shirts Coldplay have withdrawn some of their official merchandise from sale after the band were dissatisfied with the quality of the products for sale at their US gigs. Frontman Chris Martin made his feelings clear as the band's 67-date world tour kicked off (July 15). "We were in the dressing room in LA looking at some of the stuff and much of it, especially some of the t-shirts, looked terrible," he explained. The singer insisted that the products must match the standard of his band's music, despite the likelihood the band will lose money because of the decision to withdraw the items from sale. "We put so much work into our music," he said. "The same quality control has to extend to stuff being sold at our shows and we made that clear. It has to be a no crap zone." http://www.nme.com/news/coldplay/38257
July 18, 200817 yr I have a few older Coldplay shirts. They are of a pretty alright quality, still presentable after a couple of washings. But I don't know about the newer merch. I do know though that some other bands' official merchandise are of really bad quality... Thin flimsy material and poor printing. I guess for the amount of money we're paying for the shirts and stuff, they ought to be expected to last more than one washing. So I'm pretty glad the lads are making an effort to offer better quality products.
July 18, 200817 yr wow, well this is interesting. i kind of would have liked to see it myself, but i trust them. no crap zone :laugh4: i wonder if the VIVA shirt (the letters V-I-V-A one) will be pulled. chris seemed to like that one enough to wear it at the TODAY show :P i wonder if the merch will be replaced with other things deemed "better"? i hope so, anyway. i'm such a merch-geek.
July 18, 200817 yr Well I hope they kept at least a few shirts...I'd like to get one next week when I go see them!!
July 18, 200817 yr well i bought some stuff from the online shop, and apparently its on backorder so im not going to get it for a while :( all im thinking is that this might extend to that and id have to get a refund...i better not! i dont know which one's he's talking about being bad, but the one's i got looked awesome, so im hoping they keep making them so i get my order.
July 18, 200817 yr Aww, that sucks. I don't care how bad it sucks i still want something to take home after the concert
July 20, 200817 yr How much is it for a standard tee-shirt anyhow? i believe it's $45....they should lower that price...way too expensive. The tour program is beautiful...i recommend getting that...still only $20 (same from X&Y tour). The white mug with 'Viva la Vida' in red is nice too...i believe that's also $20.
July 20, 200817 yr something completely unrelated. but why the hell is the word "crap" censored out? please dont tell me that its considered as course language in the US.

July 21, 200817 yr What the hells?! $45?! :shocked2: I already paid good money for my seats...LMAO! Guess I gotta dig deeper into the piggy bank... :( God, I need a job so bad. They are decent-looking shirts, but personally i don't think it's worth the money.
July 21, 200817 yr They are decent-looking shirts, but personally i don't think it's worth the money. Which is why I've ordered a CCC one!!:D
July 21, 200817 yr Goodness. I think I paid about $30 (maybe $35) for my t-shirt. Even that is too much. And mine shrunk too much to wear the first time I washed it. *sigh* Good on them for taking a little bit of a stand.
