Interesting question!

I figured out who the rest were, but wasn't sure about "Michael" - seeing as all the others were murdered... although you can't really call Michael Jackson's existence "living"

  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Do you think this is a really old question that got missed for months?

Q. Hi Orcale,

Why is it that whenever Coldplay go on tour or have concerts they always seem to go to the UK, America, Europe etc.? They like never come to Australia!

I hope you can answer my question!

The Oracle replies:

Where were you in February and March this year? Looks like you missed 'em!

It's either the question was lost or the girl was living under a rock during summer.

Q. I'm 15, looking to going into musical composition for college. I've taught myself piano, no formal lessons. I'm not anything special, but I'll get there. However, I think my singing is a bit weak. Any pointers?

The Oracle replies:

You don't really need to have a great voice for musical composition. Have self-belief and go for it, many singers don't have fantastic voices but they have charisma or are distinctive. If you do want to sing, find your own voice and strengthen it. There are many vocal exercises that you could try out to make your voice stronger. If you can't afford vocal coach lessons, there are CDs available.

Q. Dear Oracle,

I have a rather interesting questions.

Wikipedia and the Wiki at Coldplaying.com seem to be under the illusion that 'What If' was released as a single, with Wikipedia also stating 'White Shadows' as another. Evidently, the Wikipedia has no wiki pages leading to the two - which would lead one to think someone has incorrectly edited the Coldplay page... until I realised that the Coldplaying Wiki had supplied cover artwork for What If. It even included a brief description of where it has been released. Has someone played a elaborate prank? It would seem so, as the code on the cover art is off-centered, unlike the others.

Thanks,

Joshua

The Oracle replies:

Sometimes singles are released in very few territories and that may be physical, digital or radio release only. That's the case with the above singles. What If was released to radio in France, for example, and White Shadows was released to coincide with the Latin American tour of 2007.

Q. hello, oracle.

i'm facing a bit of a wardrobe dilemma, and i'd be delighted if you helped me out. you see, i got the most adorable dress a few weeks ago, and i've received several compliments every time i've worn it since. but just the other day i wore it when i visited my mother and she told me straightaway that it made me look chubby and short (and i really can't afford to look much shorter). now who should i believe? my acquaintances or my own mother who claims to have my best interests at heart?

this is a life or death situation, oracle. i was planning on wearing the dress to the coldplay gig in west palm beach tomorrow, but i can't go looking like a fat midget now, can i?

The Oracle replies:

Mothers, you've gotta love them and yes, they're known for their honest opinions but that doesn't mean they're always right! What I would ask is, what do YOU think? If you love the dress, wear it, who cares what anyone else thinks?

Q. why is it that glue doesn't stick to the inside of the tube it comes in?

The Oracle replies:

When glue is exposed to air, a chemical compound hardens as a reaction to the moisture. The tubes are sealed before there's a chance of this happening. This is also why you don't want to get superglue on your skin.

Q. Dear Oracle:

This question may have been answered before...but..

Who came up with the brilliant idea of the "Fix You" Music Video ?

The Oracle replies:

It was Sophie Muller, who has directed several Coldplay videos namely Trouble, In My Place and Fix You.

Q. I find Coldplay's music videos are unique amongst pop music videos in that there are no scenes depicting gratuitous sex & violence (correct me if I'm wrong on this), unlike most pop music videos. Is this a conscious decision by the band or it just so happens that their videos are made that way? I support them by the way & find the videos are fresh in their approach and appealing in that sense. The use of women, sex & skin to sell the songs & videos are so so tired.

The Oracle replies:

Coldplay songs don't really conjure up such imagery and therefore it wouldn't make much sense to include it in their visuals. The first video for Trouble was certainly very dark and depicted band members being tied up. It's the only video that features anything close to violence. The band do have a say in their videos and discuss ideas with the director. I don't quite agree that theyre unique in this, as many bands in their genre don't tend to use those tactics either.

The 2nd question, the one in the middle was mine

lol 'tied up' in a music video....kinky....

Q. Dear Oracle! Hope this one is selected.

For the ones who would like to see the viva la vida painting "Liberty Leading the People" at Louvre and take a picture as Guy did it, where exactly is located the painting inside the Louvre?

Thanks...

The Oracle replies:

Take a look at these virtual tours to find the painting.

Q. Hey oracle! I was watching Politik on youtube from the Live 2003 DVD and I was skimming through the comments when I read that some users were saying Matt Bellamy from Muse wrote the piano part, is this true?! if it is I'd be so disappointed, I know Chris is capable of writing beautiful things, is this one of them?

The Oracle replies:

No, that's not true. Muse inspired Clocks but have never been involved in any writing with or for Coldplay.

Q. Good day Oracle.

Since the start of Coldplay discography the singles released have had the same cover style as the album it relates to.

Coldplay now has a new live album which has a green butterfly like thing on the cover. Is this a new cover style or just for the live album?

The Oracle replies:

The butterfly is the same as the ones used in the confetti drop during Lovers In Japan/Viva la Vida at the live shows and so is a one-off for the live album.

Even the Oracle makes double posts!!!

This one is posted twice:

Q. Hi Oracle.

Do you think Keane is a copy of Coldplay? I like both bands but I think Keane sometimes copies some of Coldplay's lyrics or rhythms or lines.

The Oracle replies:

Not at all, they're just a similar genre of music. Keane have been around the same length of time and in fact, Coldplay once supported Keane in London.

Q. Should I pursue my ambition to become a doctor or settle for being a shrink?

The Oracle replies:

The language of your question provides me with the answer. You have the desire to be a doctor, so go for it. By using the word settle, I can see that's not where you heart lies. If you don't you may look back with regret. At least this way you could always be a shrink as Plan B if it the doctor dream doesn't work out.

(If you ever read this: Don't do plan B if you don't really really want it. I can talk from experience here :))

^ Neither :(

I love the funky town one though :laugh3:

Q. Hey Oracle

There's this girl that I wanted to ask to the matric farewell dance (prom). The problem is: she's THAT girl. The girl that you always dream of asking this question but you just know she'll say no. I thought that maybe she'll say yes if I perform a song for her (Viva la Vida) on the piano after choir practice in front of the choir (maybe the choir will help out a bit). Should I do this? Is this a good or bad idea? Or should I not risk her saying "no"?

The Oracle replies:

I don't think you need the performance but that sounds like a very romantic thing to do. If she says "no" after that, you'd definitely know that she's not the one for you but maybe that kind of rejection would drag you down. Anyway, I'd just pluck up the courage and ask. You say you "just know she'll say no" but you don't... not until you ask at least and she may surprise you and say yes! Have confidence in yourself.

it's not like they change the setlist these days so :P

Yes, why ask if they play "Yellow"...

There would have been many other songs to ask about!!

True, I would've asked about Swallowed in the Sea. I want to hear that live.
