  • I can't give you the reasonings on why things changed, but I can give you an update from what I observed. The Oracle was run by Debs Wild. Debs is still with the band and helps out fans, for exam

Q. Hi Oracle! I'm getting married on May 17th and I'd like your sugestions for a Coldplay song while I walk in to meet my husband to be...Tks

The Oracle replies:

I feel that Postcards From Far Away (from Prospekt's March) would be perfect; it wouldn't need editing as it's under a minute long. As there are no lyrics it's not going to be a distraction. It's a slow song too so you won't be walking too fast!

I like this one :)

Q. Only a true Oracle can answer this question:

When Parachutes was originally released, track 7 (titled Parachutes) was an epic song (at least 5 minutes) and my favorite on the album. The other day I was listening to my friends version of the CD, and his track 7 (also titled Parachutes) which surprisingly was a completely different song- it was a 46 second long and very slow. Where has my favorite Coldplay song gone?

The Oracle replies:

I think you're dreaming Steve. Parachutes has always been a very short song in fact, not only is there not a longer version recorded, there isn't a longer version in existence.

HAHA :D :laugh3: what a question

Chris hasn't had an email address for a while. It's not something I could give out anyway to be honest hence the [email protected] address.

1. Chris doesn't have e-mail? He must be the only person on earth

2. So, the Oracle gives the address of Debs Wild :inquisitive: Is she reveiling her identity? :P

Don't laugh, I also had some creepy long version of Parachutes :-\

Q. Dear Big-O,

My biggest question, what is the Coldplay song that starts out with a piano medley and the first words are "if youre lost and feel alone, circumnavigate the globe" I have been wondering this for so long because I have the mp3 in my itunes and its untitled.

Thanks Big-O forever coldplay.

Jhohn

The Oracle replies:

It's called For You, which you will find on the Shiver single.

Q. Hi Oracle,

I've seen exactly the same as Steve, song nr. 7 was first longer and also a really good song! My question is was it not Ode To Deodorant?

Yours truly,

Eva from the Netherlands

The Oracle replies:

No. Thanks to Maria from Denmark (and a couple of other people), it seems that it's not a Coldplay song at all.

"Steve is talking about a song by Guster called Parachutes. Some of Coldplay's fans think this is a Coldplay song because it's also called Parachutes, and if you download it illegally, the song is there instead of "the real Parachutes". So Steve's favorite Coldplay song is actually not a Coldplay song. But it is a really good song".

I have subsequently found out, it's actually singular: Parachute.

Q. Dear Oracle: I'm attempting to take my son (10) to his first concert (Coldplay, obviously) 13 Jun, but my wife is starting to have reservations about him going. I'm trying the would-you-deny-him-seeing-Mozart-if he-had-had-a-chance angle, but it's not going so well. She's still pacing the floor. Advice?

The Oracle replies:

The only thing I can say that may help is 10 is not the youngest fan age we've had in attendance and assure your wife that if at any point he feels uncomfortable or doesn't enjoy the experience of such a big show that you will leave. Also invest in some good quality noise reduction ear mufflers.

Hmm.... interesting. I was getting confused as to why so many people seemed to know of this different version of Parachutes! I was afraid I had missed something in my Coldplay library. :embarassed:

So Steve's favorite Coldplay song is actually not a Coldplay song. But it is a really good song

:laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

Poor clueless people :P

See?? That's what you get for downloading music... songs that are not the one you wanted without you even noticing

Q. Is Coldplay interested in making a Bond song one day?

The Oracle replies:

It's certainly something they dreamed of before they made it as a band. They share a love of John Barry, who scored the majority of Bond films.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Is it true that emotions are for the weak?

This is so disturbing! Help!

Thank you!

The Oracle replies:

I agree with you. I don't think it's at all healthy to bottle up emotions. Even anger needs to be released as long as it's done in an aware, safe manner. I personally feel it's stronger to show emotion and to be in touch with your feelings. I have seen bad things happen to people who don't, that said, it's not for everyone.

Q. Oh Oracle,

Are Coldplay keen on the Flaming Lips?

Thanks very much

The Oracle replies:

Well as you are probably aware, if you read our news regularly, Mercury Rev recently supported Coldplay down under. The Flaming Lips are often compared to Mercury Rev and in fact Jonathan Donahue (vocals & guitar) joined the former as a second guitarist. In answer to your question, yes the band are keen on The Flaming Lips and you often see Chris donning their t-shirts.

Q. Dear Oracle:

Why in the song Gold In Them Hills the voice of Chris sounds different? Or is it because another person is singing?

I will be very glad if you can answer my question. Thanks.

The Oracle replies:

There are two voices on that Ron Sexsmith track, one is Chris' and the other, not surprisingly, is Ron Sexsmith.

Q. Dear Oracle,

Which band would you rather go on tour with:

Red Hot Chili Peppers

R.E.M.

Metallica

Vampire Weekend

The Oracle replies:

Easy peasy choice really given that R.E.M are firm favourites (and friends) of the band.

Q. Hello dear Oracle

I was given the 2003 Coldplay live DVD for Mothers Day and I notice that Chris has his wrist bandaged.

Can you tell me what happened to his wrist, and is he ok now?

Thanks ;)

The Oracle replies:

That was a case of repetitive strain injury and strapping his wrist helped during live shows. Touch wood he's ok now.

Q. Oh wise Oracle,

Please help me with my problem. You see, I get cold sores. Will I pass it to someone if I kiss them? I don't want to spread these nasty things!

Your help is greatly appreciated. Peace and love to you!

The Oracle replies:

Yes you will, as they are contagious. You'll need to get them treated and when infected don't share lip balm or your toothbrush!

Q. Dear Oracle.

I have an important question to you. Whenever my 9 years old brother hears Postcards From Far Away he says it can't be considered as a song 'cause it have no words. What should I tell him?

Thank you, honorable Oracle.

The Oracle replies:

Well technically your son is correct, as a song is by definition a piece of music with lyrics. Postcards From Far Away is a composition but over time it's commonly accepted that even without words we can call it a song.

Q. Hey Oracle, just wondering about the new album available LeftRighLeftRightLeft. when I click on the link 'Click here to download your free copy.' The link takes me to a page that says address not found. can you help me with this.

The Oracle replies:

You left a Left off! Demand has been so high for the album that some people aren't getting it immediately but if you refresh the page and keep trying it should all work fine as it has for so many. Please bear with it as the response has been phenomenal and we hope you'll agree it's worth the extra time.

Q. Hello Oracle!

Okay, did Jay-Z and Coldplay make an entire album together? Because I heard a song of the two called Beach Chair. and its amazing! Is there an entire album of this? Or just a few song duos together?

The Oracle replies:

They didnt do an entire album but Chris & Jonny featured on Jay Zs Beach Chair on the Kingdom Come album. There have been other collaborations; Chris was a guest performer at Jay's Royal Albert Hall gig in London in 2006. Jay Z also rapped on Lost+ last year which sparked a bootleg album that combined the works of both, called Viva la Hova.

Who knows what a contralto is???

Q. Dear all-knowing Oracle,

I am planning on auditioning for 'American Idol' this year and what I would like to know is, can you give me any suggestions on what to sing? I'm a contralto and I generally sing some form of rock music, my favorite bands being Coldplay, U2, and Muse. Please answer, as it would be a great help. I will, of course, still continue to search on my own. Thanks. :)

The Oracle replies:

Bonos register certainly isnt contralto and Matt Bellamy frequently uses falsetto so Muse wouldnt be ideal either. Coldplays Yes is as low as it goes but usually the judges prefer familiar songs. Funnily enough I heard the perfect song for you today on the radio. Un-Break My Heart by Toni Braxton should suit your voice really well. Or Breathe Again or indeed most of her catalogue! I realize this isnt your preferred genre of Rock but getting the song right is vital. Good luck.

... and today's obligatory "problem page" question...

Q. Oracle!!

How do I trust what my girfrined has told me about her past? Do I just hope she's telling the truth or investigate?

Thanks

A troubled boyfriend

The Oracle replies:

If by her past you are referring to what she may or may not have done before you two got together, perhaps it's best to leave the past behind you. It shouldn't be important to your present or future. I honestly believe people can get too wrapped up in looking back instead of looking forward.

If you truly want this to work, you must have trust or you have nothing.

Q. I did a stupid thing to someone i really love and i want to apologize

The Oracle replies:

I'm assuming you're looking for a Coldplay song to do this with? I feel if you did a stupid thing, apologise with words! If you don't feel comfortable talking, maybe you could take time to write a letter. This would mean you could write everything you want to say and the recipient can read it, re-read it and take their time before replying. There'd be no interruptions either. That said, maybe you should write something to take with you when you say sorry face to face and if it doesn't go to plan, you will have something else ready.

Do you think this is a really old question that got missed for months?

Q. Hi Orcale,

Why is it that whenever Coldplay go on tour or have concerts they always seem to go to the UK, America, Europe etc.? They like never come to Australia!

I hope you can answer my question!

The Oracle replies:

Where were you in February and March this year? Looks like you missed 'em!

Q. Hi dearest Oracle, I have an interesting question for you:

Who are " Michael, Martin (Chris?), Malcom, Biggie & Pac" in Lost+ (quoted by Jay-Z)

Thanks =D

The Oracle replies:

Jay-Z is referring to a host of influential black figures in modern day history who have suffered at the hands of their success: Michael Jackson, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls / Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur.
