Unemployed women given £1,000 makeovers to help them find a solvent husband

Women on the dole are being offered a £1,150 fashion and beauty makeover and membership to a dating agency to help them find a wealthy husband.

Dutch jobseekers are being given a new hairstyle and outfit and tips from a lifecoach on how to attract a new partner.

The scheme has been slammed by local politicians who criticised the deal as unethical and a waste of taxpayers money.

article-1285477-024CC71B000004B0-319_468x409.jpg Women in the Netherlands are being offered makeovers and membership to dating agencies in a bid to get them off the dole

Under the scheme, the women will be given instructions on how to present themselves socially and offered a place on an exclusive matchmaking website called Mens & Relatie (People and Relationships).

They will have professional photographs of their new image to boost their dating profile.

The scheme is being offered by three councils in Friesland, in the north of the Netherlands.

They estimate that if 70 women find a solvent husband, the council can save £330,000 on welfare payments.

They also believe that finding love will help get the unemployed off state benefits by improving their confidence and ambitions.

So far, just one candidate has signed up for the voluntary scheme, which is aimed at women but open to men as well.

Managing director of dating website Mens & Relatie, Radboud Visser, said that people in relationships have 'better health, more happiness, make more money and live longer lives'.

He told The Times that the councils would spend 650 euros registering an unemployed woman on their site - the average they pay them in jobseekers allowance each month.

More than 600 people in the area are eligible for the scheme but, following some adverse publicity in local media, one council has put the plan on hold.

In 2008, jobless Dutch in Maastricht were given a 10-week course of 'regression therapy' at a cost of £720 in the hope that coming to terms with their past lives would help them find a job.

It works but never tried it.

dang, no one suggested. I'll just throw 'em.

No! I think they look great. I'm just not very good at.. fashion.. :uhoh:

A gown worn by Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes has sold for a staggering £213,000 in a huge auction of famous film props and costumes.

Dubbed 'the most important Hollywood dress ever', the famous pink satin outfit from the Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend sequence in the 1953 film beat its expected price of £170,000.

The auction, one of the biggest ever held in Hollywood, featured an unprecedented range of 1,500 landmark items.

Fetching £137,420 was the famous Wicked Witch of the West hat worn by Margaret Hamilton in The Wizard of Oz.

Made of black wool bunting fabric, the prop from the 1939 film was expected to reach £100,000.

A third must-have for film fans - the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade - sold for just under £11,000.

The cup, which is just six inches tall and made of fired terracotta and painted to resemble ancient earthenware, was the key plot device of the legendary film.

It was used by Indiana Jones in the final sequence to save his father Henry Jones with its 'divine healing properties'.

Star Wars fans were well catered for in the auction, and an X-Wing Fighter filming miniature from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope fetched £65,274.

The ships are incredibly rare and this will be the first time one has reached the auction block.

The 'bottomless carpetbag' used by Julie Andrews in Disney's Mary Poppins also went for £65,274, although it had only been expected to fetch £8,000.

And then I wore it with a hat like this. At first it had this really horrible string on it but I took that off and sewed on a shiny red ribbon with a big bow.

I'm in a very summery mood. :laugh3:

I think it's about $8000

OMG, seriously? :'( Boo. :( It's so pretty, though! Yeah, I think I'll just end up getting this Burberry watch I have my eye on, it's way cheaper than that. haha. I just need a job to pay for it. :P

Yep it's a shame, I love that watch:(, men seem to get more choice than us with watches though I think as it's like their only piece of jewelery!, I look at most girls watches and think meh I don't really like that, and most watch makers have tons more mens models :(

What's wrong with men's watches?

I actually like them. :awesome:
