What song should be the next coldplay's single?

Featured Replies

Either Lovers in Japan or Strawberry Swing

Funny...didn't a review once say Cemeteries of London would most likely be the first single? Now it doesn't look like it'll be a single at all, and they dont play it live. What happened, why do they hate that song so much?

Actually THEY don't hate it well... idk actually but I know that it's Guy's favorite song off of the record he said and I quote" I find this a very visual song sort of conjures up images of London in Victorian times which is dark and foggy"

Edit: Personally I it's my fav on the album besides DAAHF

I heard 'Lost?' in the radio last week so I think 'Lost!' will be the next single but I'd love '42' and 'Yes' to become singles too.

Dumb question, probably. But what exactly is the significance of this? I mean, a single gets a video, its own release (complete w/ b-side), and...what else? More publicity, I guess, but are there any more implications?

well, it becomes available for regular radio play. ever hear daylight, warning sign or white shadows on the radio? (with the exception of the recent top 20 countdowns and all-coldplay xm stations) No. Because they aren't singles. twenty years from now, nobody's gonna hear warning sign on the radio, but they'll still be playing yellow, the scientist, clocks, speed of sound, viva la vida etc.

If these songs didn't become singles, they would've dropped off the musical map. Singles are sort of the lasting milestones of a band's music.

The fourth single is tricky because it's basically between 42 and lovers in japan. 42 would be sweet to hear on the radio, it's cool and would give the band more credibility among the critics. On the other hand Lovers In Japan is far more accessible and has an epic, anthemic sound that would fit better as a single.

I have a feeling both songs will eventually be released, sort of the way "what if" and "the hardest part" were released.

While Strawberry Swing is one of my favorites on the album, I wouldn't want it as a single. Sometimes the best songs aren't the best single choices. I don't like the idea of SS being played out at radio all the time.

Agreed. Somehow I'd like to think of SS as a 'Coldplay's little secret'. :P I sound so selfish...

Anyways, I think LIJ would be an AWESOME single!

LOST! or Lovers in Japan.

I'd love to see them make videos for those two.

I really want it to be either 42 or Lovers in Japan... but something is telling me it will be Lost! and I don't like that because that's my least favorite track in the album :\ .

Right.

There will be four singles from the album.

Two have already been released (Violet Hill, Viva La Vida).

Certain live performances of Lost! (already confirmed as the next single) have been filmed, presumably for promotional purposes.

The fourth single will be Lovers In Japan, unless the record company do a u-turn and go back on what's already been said.

How do I know this? Because the sticker on the front cover of the new record says so, meaning EMI had chosen the singles well in advance of the album's release.

You must be so right! :stunned:Why else would they put these titles on the sticker?

I think they are good choices. Especially Lovers In Japan, which I looove.

Cemeteries of London, unless they're scared of pushing God down people's throats. In which case Strawberry Swing.

I had the same thought when I first saw the sticker on the album... Although I wasn't exactly sure until all this talk about Lost! being played twice during concerts and filmed.

I'm cool with both Lost! and Lovers in Japan, I like them both.

But I think SS would have been lovely :nice:

Haha well my main reason behind wanting anything as a single is the fact that a video would likely accompany it. And while I think Strawberry Swing would be absolutely huge if it was released in the summer, I could be wrong.

But to see a video of SS would be so amazing. Like lots of bright colors and obviously the idea of Strawberry Swing is very colorful itself.

It's the first time I've really heard a song and thought summer and seen summer when I hear it, completely without it having a direct connection to summer (as in you listen to songs in summer when you first hear them, then they feel like summer songs - while this song just felt like summer regardless).

This song is like a breathe of fresh air, and people need to at least be given the chance to know about it imo.

It WILL be lost! but should be Death and All His Freinds, that song is amazing!! I love it and I think it would work very well as a single!!

I've got a feeling it will probably be Lost! but i'd prefer it to be 42 cos it's such a different song for them and it's amazing! I also think Strawberry Swing and Lovers In Japan would make excellent singles :)

I'd have to say Strawberry Swing, it's fantastic, although I think Yes would be a good single...I'm ok with everything as long as we get a new b side yeaah! :D
