When has he actually said he hates his early solo work because that's the first I've heard of it, I'm not as keen on his earlier solo work myself but I don't view it as bad just I don't connect with it as well.

Smile From The Streets You Hold (the only drug money album) was taken from the stores by his demand back in '99, but he's since said that he wants to re-release it as there's some good music on it... and Niandra LaDes & Usually Just A T-Shirt was mostly recorded before his actual descent into heroin hell. He's said that he's still proud of that album, and he still plays five or six tunes from that live on occasion. Even one from SFTSYH, for that matter.

Anyway, he was clean after '98, so.

re: musicradar

not sure how many of you took a listen to him answering all those fan questions. but he was seemed very defensive and at times aggresive when he was asked anything RHCP related especially when he was asked about them recording again. john has always come across as being very tame and polite so i was shocked when he reacted like that to the RHCP questions.

Maybe they have decided to call it a day.

wouldnt suprise me. he could go out on his own, he is so talented

Maybe they have decided to call it a day.

My first thought. That interview caused quite a stir :)

He didn't know about Chickenfoot (Chad's project) and there are "official news". And unofficial?

Well, we'll see. We have The Empyrean first of all (which leaked of course :sneaky:)

I don't think they won't make another album but I think the next one will be the last one they do, personally I would think it's a shame but I would't be heartbroken, Johns solo work just seems to get better and better, although if RHCP did split up I could see him doing another side project where he plays in a similar style as every now and then he has to get it out of his system(or I hope so anyway)

wow, I dont know such thread existed

I really adore John, he's one of the best (or maybe the best) musicians I know. Hands down.

and that poll is pointless and so silly, but still nice that he won :nice:

I agree the poll is pretty pointless as I don't feel you can say that many of the guitarists that were included are "better" than the others as many of them are brilliant, just nice to see him win though:)

  • 1 year later...

^ I'd hope so. Since he's ruined one of my all time favorite bands, he should have had plenty of time on his hands to write one.

Yeah he has kind of single handedly killed RHCP, still I like his solo work far more personally, so I'm excited there will be a new album in the not too distant future.

I hope it's good, too. I'm just always a little upset with him because I find his reasons for leaving RHCP to be kind of lame. He can do RHCP and solo work. I dont know; there might be another reason he's not sharing.

My take on it was he was fed up with the constant touring and fame, although from how it was handled at the time I do sort of get the feeling he might have left due to a rift with another band member, but it's between them and none of our business really, if his next album is as good as his last it's very likely to eclipse the RHCP effort(well with me anyway).

he is a selfish (albeit brilliant) musician, always has been always will be. his time with RHCP was tainted with him trying to control the creative direction of the band something that should've rest on the more unique talents of Flea. unless he produces something brilliant soon John will probably now go down in music history as a nobody (which is what he wants) and RHCP will turn into one of those 80s bands you look at and think "ewww people used to dress like that?"

sad but true.

^ Ummm, i don't know about that. RHCP's legacy is pretty secure. They are one of the best rock bands of the last 25 years. No amount of John goofiness can really taint that. As far as a creative force, I think John doesn't really take a back seat to anybody, and that includes Flea. I'm mad because there is no more RHCP, but I can't take away credit that John has earned over the years. I don't even like any Chili Peppers' albums before John, and I wasn't really crazy about One Hot Minute. He seems to have brought the melody to the band that I really enjoyed.

Probably because him and Flea are the only ones with much creativity to start with, honestly those 2 are the only reason I ever have liked them, in fact I would have been happier to listen to an album of instrumentals without Anthony singing at all.

His work with The Mars Volta is good too and I'm sure the new solo album will be great, although I doubt many people will listen to it.

^ Ummm...I don't know about that either. Chad Smith is a perfect drummer for that band. I don't usually get involved in skill debates because those things are subjective, but I will say that the trio of musicians in RHCP are about as good as I've heard. As far as Antony goes, he doesn't really have great vocal chops, but it's hard to detract from a guy whose vocal style is a center piece of the band. In other words, you really couldn't replace him and still call it RHCP; his vocals and the band go hand in hand. RHCP were a kick ass band. I'm really sorry that it appears to be over. I've loved all their albums from RSSM forward (except the album with Dave Navarro).

Oh Chads a decent enough drummer, my last post was a bit unfair on him, I guess what I meant is I only really listened to them to hear John and Flea play and to tell the truth no I'm not a big fan of Anthonys voice.
