oh now I understand completely, but I guess I'll enter until the next round won't I?

Dave, it's ok now! :nice:

And album art wasn't included ;)

1 - "This is just the beginning!" Can't say much about it, but it's a good opener. That's a good trick hehe. ;)

2 - British. Very very known. I've heard it before but I can't remember the name of the song or the artist. BUT I like it quite a lot! ^_^

3 - Travis "Why Does It Always Rain On Me?" cover. I don't have any idea who made it because I don't really know British comedians. Save for Adam Buxton. :D DO they say "Why is it always Derry Lee?"?

4 - Artic Monkeys? I'm not so sure about the voice, but everything else is so Arctic Monkey-ish. It's quite dancey!

5 - MGMT - Time To Pretend :) It's not my favourite MGMT song, but it's one of the best ones.

6 - The Cranberries - Zombie One of the songs I started loving on first listen. It's a great song, definitely one of the best ever written, relevant also for these days.

7 - Bruce Springsteen? His voice is definitely known to me. :) it's fun, not something I'd listen to very often, but it's great for once in a while.

8 - hmmmmm this is similar to The Beatles. It's from their era, right? Love it, I wanna hear more songs like that!

9 - known beat, don't know the song, but it's interesting :D

10 - don't know it but i like itttt!

11 - again, i don't know it ... i don't recognise the band at all! i like the guitars and the melody, though. Should I know it? :uhoh:

12 - short but cool! very very old! I forgot what's the genre called, but i remember listening to songs like this when i was a kid. ^_^

13 - sweet voice, love the melody. I want to hear more!

14 - Gary Jules - Mad World (is it a cover - i mean the beats in the background?)

15 - a livelier song again, something unknown to me! it makes me bouncing a bit when i hear it :D

16 - U2 ... i should know this song .... but i can't remember the title!! ahhhhhh this is frustrating.

17 - i love it. i don't know who's singing, but it's a nice song.

18 - I know it!!!! Again, no idea of the song name or the artist. Again, this is frustrating!

19 - nice one, too :) don't know the band, though :( i think it's called bonnie&clyde, right?

20 - hmm, sounds funky! not my style, but it's listenable. is it mentioning amarillo?

21 - oh, violin! it sounds quite good, don't think i've heard many songs of this genre so far ...

22 - i don't like the voice ... actually, the whole song isn't what i'm listening to... sounds kinda 90s - bsb, cita etc.?

23 - ahhhhhh i also know this song!!!!! who's it by?? :bomb:

24 - A Moby's song. I know it because I had it on my PC, but I forgot the title :(

25 - good tune, cool beat. wanna hear more songs like that! :nice:

All in all, interesting mixtape, many styles of music, and i didn't dislike any of the songs! Thanks David!

POST DAVE POST THE LINK AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!

lol

I didn't make a mixtape for this project...but I did make a fall mixtape that is on my blog if anybody is interested.

I checked out your blog and i love your taste in music. I look forward to you winter mix.

To the mystery-maker of my magnificant mixtape!

I'm typing while listening for the first time: this is gut-reaction feedback, rather than considered opinion, but I’m the kind of gal who goes with her gut! So:

1 – MGMT: I love this album, and you picked my favourite song (I actually put one of theirs on my Mixtape). An amazing start!!!

2 – Nice. Don’t know what it is. Thought it might be Snow Patrol, but this guy is a better singer. I like the way it builds, and I’m always a fan of strings!

3 – Ooh, a sudden shift of gear! Crazy violins (me likes the strings!), kind of a bluesy/jazzy vibe very interesting lyrics. Whoever you are – you’ve got great taste!

4 – The Strokes – nice choice. Strangely, I do not own a single piece of music by them yet I once had a dream about them and this very record!

5 – Another interesting change of pace. Was worried that it was going to be a disco number when it started, but no! The voice sounds a bit familiar, but I can’t place him at the moment.

6 – Another familiar sounding voice, but I’ve not heard the track before. Lovin’ your work so far! This is a really upbeat album, full of different styles and voices – my kind of mix... have you been spying on me?

7 – Not a clue about this one. Really interesting sound – dramatic guitar & strings, good vocal. Switches styles a few times. Not the sort of thing I’d pick out for myself, but an interesting diversion

8 – Takes me back to my student days. No idea who it is, but it’s got that kind of Britpop vibe I used to listen to all the time. Great lyrics - “You’re so cute when you’re slurring your speech” Would definately want to hear more from this band.

9 – Bringing the tempo down now, which is nice. Again, no idea who it is, but I guess that’s the joy of the Mixtape Exchange. This guy has a beautiful voice. There are more fantastic strings

10 – KT Tunstall – love her. Also put one of hers (from the first album) on my Mixtape. I think she’s a really inspiring female artist, and sadly, there aren’t enough of them about.

11 – The Raconteurs – another excellent choice. I love the bluesy vibe they have, I find them a bit more accesible than The White Stripes. Once again, I own nothing by them, but you may have given me the nudge I needed.

12 – Manic Street Preachers – wow, you pick the good stuff! I don’t own much by them, but I do own this. This and “Design For Life” bring a tear to my eye.

Me and my friends at work make CD’s like this for each other all the time. They’ve known me for years and none of them has made a mix as entertaining and interesting as you have. Thank you for giving me a glimpse in to your world, and introducing me to some really exciting new music. I hope you’ll send me a track list so I can check out some more of their material, and I hope you get as much enjoyment out of the mixtape that lands in your mailbox.

Take care,

Alison

Glad you liked it :nice:

The songs & artists..

1. MGMT - Kids

I just love this song..those kids screaming on the background are sooo cute

2. Snow Patrol - Open Your Eyes. Yesh, it indeed was Snow Patrol. I like their style in music and the way they mix relaxing & powerfull things together. I also love the way it builts towards the end

3. Bright Eyes - Four Winds

Gotta love the singer (Conor Oberst). I don't even like his singing in some songs but i love this one. The lyrics are also very good

4. The Strokes - Reptilia

One of my all time favourite songs. I never get tired of it!

5. The Crash - Lauren Caught My Eye

This is a finnish band and i wanted to add something totally new on the mix. This song isn't a new one but i'm sure not many of you have heard their music before.

6. Supergrass - Rebel In You

Downloaded their album earlier this year and i always end up listening to this song many times in a row and singing "hands down you're beautiful!"

7. Von Hertzen Brothers - Freedom Fighter

Another finnish band. I adore their proge rock style. It probably takes a few listens to get into it (at least for me)

8. Death Cab For Cutie - Crooked Teeth

Ah, what can i say? It's death cab! Their lyrics are awesome and i luurve their melodies..

9. Beck - Lonesome Tears

I used to listen to this song all the time a few summers ago. It's such a sad song and i'm a strings fan as well :nice:

10. KT Tunstall - Another Place To Fall

I like her style. It's just as simple as that haha. She's also vewy pretty

11. The Raconteurs - Steady As She Goes

A relatively new band for me. This song got my attention right from the 1st listen.

12. Manic Street Preachers - If You Tolerate This

Great band, great song.

So.. all in all this mixtape represents me so much more than the 1st mixtape i made earlier. All those songs are good in their own way (well, obviously..i wouldn't have chosen them otherwise :P)

As i mentioned earlier; I'm very glad that you enjoyed my mixtape :nice: I honestly had no idea what kind of music you listen to so i was a bit suprised to find out that you liked it that much!

Zeoir, THAT is a great mixtape! I know many of the artist and songs on it. I need to check out The Manic Street Preachers, The Strokes, The Crash and Supergrass and see if I would get into their stuff

Wow, Zeoir, I'm so excited to find out who made my Mixtape. :D

Thank you again, you must have put a lot of thought in to it as it contained so many different styles and colours. Will definately check out Bright Eyes & Death Cab for Cutie. And I've not listened to any of the newer stuff by Supergrass or Beck, so I've clearly got some catching up to do! :)

If this game happens again, I'm sure everyone will hope to be paired with you! :P

Mixtape Exchange Review

sorry for delay, but i couldn't identify any of the tracks :embarassed: (and i used to identify any artists i listen to just for the first seconds) although it gives some info about some of them on my wmp :uhoh:

track 1. Begins so slow and low, but it increases at min 2 and adds guitar, and some voices at the back, but them say no word.. no voices at min 3:30, just guitar with the same melody, it adds other instrument and begin like a dialogue with the guitar. Min 4:30 increases the rythm and sound is more powerful. Ends with drums and guitar, cool. kind of remind me to some rock bands like LZ or Mike Oldfield rockiest songs. (min 5)

track 2. sounds good.

track 3. didn't noticied it had begun. Guess is a good sign, good mixtape.

track 4. according to what my wmp reports is: How the west was and where it got us by REM.

track 5. according to wpm is by jimmy eats world. I like it.

track 6. sound good although the end is like screaming :uhoh:

track 7. slow song again, nice voice. the guitar remind me to some band like Placebo, some soft songs of them lol. according to my wmp is: Blacking out the friction by Death cab for cutie.

track 8. has some reggae base, like it  may be is under the bridge by RHCP.. :uhoh:

track 9. slow track again and calmy. according with my wmp is by Makesnd. but remind me to Tom Baxter dunno why. :uhoh:

track 10. according with wmp: Blue Skies by Albert Hammond Jr. although i identified his voice inmediatelly when the track begun to sound (i saw him with coldplay  ) calmy music.

track 11. so so calmy song, nice voice there. Can't identify this one, but remind me to some old bands that my like listens to (Alan Parsons Project, Vangelis..., something like that).

to sum up: Good mixtape, got to know bands that are new for me, generally are calm sounds but interesting and creative at the same time. I like the progression of the mix, from slow to more intense sounds and then going slowly to calm sounds again :nice: Btw just to mention i hadn't noticied any female voice on the mixtape, all tracks are in english and seem most them are from bands. :)

fave tracks so far are 4, 6 and 7

thanks for the work :sunny: I enjoyed it :smug2: I'd like to know more about some of the bands of that mixtape.

thanks for the work :sunny: I enjoyed it :smug2: I'd like to know more about some of the bands of that mixtape.

Hey, ari! That was my mixtape, you came to listen to :) I'm quite glad you liked it :nice: I - indeed - payed special attention to give the mixtape some sort of dynamic, going from slower songs to faster and louder ones and returning to the sound which the mixtape started with. Cool you noticed that :D

These were the songs:

  1. Goodspeed You! Black Emperor - East Hastings
A pretty unknown progressive rockband with a sort of well known song. 'East Hastings' is part of the 28 Days Later OST and - to me - one of the best intro-songs for any mixtape! ;)
  2. Grandaddy - Now It's On!Opening song of Grandaddy's second last album 'Sumday'. They've got a quite simple, straightforward style - but also some very deep lyrics. I can also recommend their album 'The Sophtware Slump'
  3. Maritime - Young Alumni
I discovered Maritime - an american indie-band - some time ago and I still love them! Their songs are always happy, not too serious - this song is just one of their best in my opinion :D
  4. R.E.M. - How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us
Everybody knows R.E.M.. Still not anybody knows this song - it's very calm, but rythmic and Mr. Stipes singing is just adorable (as always, actually ;) ). It's from the album 'New Adventures In Hi-Fi', which I strongly recommend to any R.E.M.-fan who hasn't got it already.
  5. Jimmy Eat World - 23
Magnificent song! The lyrics and guitars are just amazing on this one. The mixtape is 'accelerating' now :D
  6. Beatsteaks - Hello Joe
A german band from Berlin. They're doing mostly punkrock, but this song is one of their better ones :nice: This song is written about the Clash-frontman Joe Strummer and part of the album 'Smack Smash'
  7. Death Cab For Cutie - Blacking Out The Friction
The guys from Death Cab For Cutie are well known for their calm and beautiful songs. But Blacking Out The Friction is quite different - rhythmic, mean guitar riffs and powerful drummings. In the end the song is becoming calmer and the mixtape is about to slow down for the finale.
  8. Fiddler's Green - Burn The Bridges
A german band doing irish (speed-)folk. Very interesting combination and definitely worth a listen! This song indeed resembles reggae a bit and always reminds me of the beautiful island of Ireland.
  9. Colin Hay - Overkill
Some of you may know this name - Colin Hay was singer and guitarist of the band 'Men At Work' (most famous song: Down Under). Mr. Hay re-released their song 'Overkill' as a solo work and it sounds very beatiful with the acoustic guitars. I discovered it through the TV-series SCRUBS :D Colin Hay appears in the first episode of season 2 bugging J.D. with that song ;)
  10. Albert Hammond Jr. - Blue Skies
This guy may be a bad (and loud) memory to most of the european coldplay-fans on here ( :laugh3: ), but his first album honestly wasn't that bad! This song is a good example - no screaming and yelling, Albert actually has feelings on this one! Definitely worth to get on the mixtape :)
  11. David Gilmour - A Pocketful Of Stones
I wanted the last song of my mixtape to be as close to the first song as possible - and this song was just the perfect choice. David Gilmour (in case you don't know: guitarist and singer of Pink Floyd) has such a nice voice which is only topped by his overwhelming work on the guitar. This song ends with a beautiful guitar solo and fades out with the same feeling in your stomach as the first song began. The circle is closed :)

In case anybody is interested in the mixtape, you can get it here:

Thanks to ari for being the "subject" of my mixtape - I'm very glad it turned out to be rather positive :) And thanks to Nina for this amazing event - I'm definitely gonna take part again next time

Hope I'm gonna get the mixtape I have to review soon :)

THOSE WHO DON'T HAVE A MIXTAPE YET, PLEASE SAY IT.

And thank you, Winnie :nice:

# Albert Hammond Jr. - Blue Skies

This guy may be a bad (and loud) memory to most of the european coldplay-fans on here ( ), but his first album honestly wasn't that bad! This song is a good example - no screaming and yelling, Albert actually has feelings on this one! Definitely worth to get on the mixtape

What are you talking about?

AHJ is awesome, I love both his albums

ok ok let me see if I understand, I ask eglantine to make a participant, then someone uploads his/her mix and pms to eglantine, she asigns the owner of the mix someone to guess about the songs and rate them and then the owner reveals himself/herself and gives everyone a link so all can listen to her/his mix

Exactly! If RedGirl76 agrees, you can listen to her mixtape as it seems her partner won't show up.

Uploading my mixtape at the moment!

I'm SO frigging sorry for whoever did my mixtape for not reviewing it yet. :( I did listen to it after downloading it but I just didn't get enough time to review it on here (Uni's to blame!). And since everyone has been posting details of each song I'll might as well need to do that so hopefully, I'll get round to doing that tonight or tomorrow night.

But in general, it was quite a listen, I must say, as I'm not that very used to that genre of music. There was one song in particular I liked the most, think it was track 10, can't remember, but I had it on repeat quite a few times. And yeah the songs with no lyrics were very nice as well. Oh and I'd assume whoever did mine perhaps is British for some of the songs were quite British-accented and maybe is male too, I'm not sure. This is just a feeling hehe.

Edit: Argh, my internet is acting up! So no can upload now, I guess. Hopefully later on..

I decided to download all the Mixtapes that have been posted today. Just finished listening to Grace's (going through them chronologically)

It's a really good listen. I'm not very well at the moment and there were lots of beautiful tracks on there with nice vocals and arrangements to soothe my aching head! :sick2:

The Girls Aloud track did nothing for me, and felt a bit out of place. Also (and this will only make sense to the Brits on board), the chorus reminds me of a game show theme (Blankety Blank, Blankety Blank!). But on the whole it was a really great mix.

I deliberately listened to it without looking at the tracklist that's been posted, but now I'll be going to that post to find out the names of some artists that I definately want to hear more of.

Thanks for sharing with us all after your partner got it ,Grace (promise I'll do the same, but it would appear my partner is avoiding the terrible truth that is my musical taste at the moment :laugh3:).

And thanks again to Nina for organising all of this - if you haven't all already submitted your noms for the Coldplaying Awards, I think she deserves a mention, don't you? ;)

Yes she does! We could nominate it for Thread of the Year... There are some strong contenders for that. We could bring it to the attention of the Moderators for the awards they give out. This is such a cool idea and it really creates more than music awareness it brings friends together. She is promoting herself for Avitar of the Year. I will most likely be placing my vote for her in that catagory...

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well Alison. I hope you get to feeling better soon...

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well Alison. I hope you get to feeling better soon...

Thank you!

I spent most of the day in bed, because I had tix for Vampire Weekend tonight and I didn't want to miss them.

They were awesome - I now have no voice!!!

Your idea for thread of the year was great - sadly I've already submitted my form. I nominated Nina for Best Avi and European Ambassador

Meanwhile, back on topic with the Mixtape, I think someone may have recieved my mix today

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrggggggggghh!

Finally! I hope they like it.

You get to see so many concerts. Im jealous. So, I take it you are feeling a bit better now. Voiceless but better.

Exactly! If RedGirl76 agrees, you can listen to her mixtape as it seems her partner won't show up.

that's fine :D but I don't have time rightnow to upload something so right now I'm not available, just count me in please;)
