Mixtape Exchange no.2

Featured Replies

what I can say so far about the mixtape I received is that it is soft and agreable, well yes it is quite girly but I'm liking it thus far

Bless you Ricardo!

For those who haven't been keeping up, Ricardo is a late arrival in the Mixtape Lounge and Nina sent him my link as my partner is M.I.A. I did try to do a bit of research on my original partner, and as a result, Ricardo is listening to a Mix made for a 20 something female who's favourite Coldplay album is Parachutes.

If we do this again, Ricardo, you'll get hopefully get something more suited to your tastes

Track 16 of my oversized tape;)

Yeah, I just put Parachutes on 'cos it was short but it meant that the recipient got at least one track they liked!

Review on second listen:

1. Sounds a bit like something that would be by the Arctic Monkeys or some other Brit pop band. It's not that bad though. But again this is definitely not a genre of music I'd normally listen to.

2. Christmasy beginning. Quite nice so far. Mellow and easy. Now reminds me a bit of Frou Frou's Let Go. I notice a British accent in it too.

3. Very Hip Hopish! Not used to this kind of songs at all. Hehe, weird.

4. Nice beat. Not liking the singer's voice that much. Good song, nevertheless.

5. Electronic beat. Quite too electronic for my taste. Oh and a British band as well, I'd assume?

6. I really like some of the guitar playing. Not big on the lyrics though.

7. Electronic again.. I'm sorry it's difficult for me to like songs that are this Electronic.

8. Very nice. LOVE the violin bits.

9. Weird beginning but it continues gently. Liking the singer's voice.

10. I really liked this one when I first listened to it. It's fun! :D

I'm a lady.. got my mind made up, got my mind made up! *sings along*

11. Hmm, I don't like this sort of songs. :-/ Wooh, how loud it gets.

12. Gloomy beginning. I quite like it, actually.

13. The singer's voice reminds me of the guy from the first song, could be wrong though. Not too fond of it, but it's good.

14. Lovely beginning. I remember liking this song the first time I listened to it. Yep, this one I like quite a bit.

Hope I didn't seem harsh with my comments. Just found it a bit difficult listening to some of the songs because of the genre. But I VERY much appreciate you sticking to your taste rather than putting together something closer to mine. Can't wait to see who did this! :D

Thank you a lot!

And thank you Nina!!

I did check out your last fm and tried to not put any bands on that you already listen to....

So, the bands I think you should listen more to are Santogold! and Menomena, Lykke Li, Cut Copy and maybe some others!

Kara :)

3 Why is it always processed cheese? Travis & Mark & Lard

ehm, are we talking about travis travis? ;D

could you please send me this one, david? :) would be great!

Where did the sign up thread for the 3rd mixtape exchange go?

I don't think there is one yet. Not everyone has recieved their Mix or their Feedback from number 2 yet

Really? I could've swore I saw a mixtape 3 thread.

I'm probably just out of my mind.

This seems really cool though, I wanna participate next time.

It's been a lot of fun. I got really excited about recieving my Mixtape -which turned out to be awesome

But the original recipient of my Mix never picked it up and I'm still waiting for the review from the substitute

Just listened to Space Cadet's Mixtape, and it's another great one. Oh you all have such excellent taste!!!

Hope Ricardo is going to post his review of mine soon (hint, hint!). C'mon, I can take the criticism!

Has anyone not recieved their mixes yet?

It was my mixtape!!

Oh it was you Kara! :D Coolies!

Yeah I'm gonna have to try out the bands you've mentioned. And I'm glad you didn't put any of the bands that I already know of. :)

Btw, the track list you've posted has 15 tracks, my mixtape had only 14.. Could you check it again so I'd be sure about the artists for each song?

track 01 - coldplay parachutes

track 02 - Sort of a bossa nova - pop song with some women singing it with a voice and style similar to Norah Jones

track 03 - nice guitar in the begining; it is very pop and girly to me though.

track 04 - Nice rythm and music. Eventhough the singer's voice has nothing special and it was weird to my tastes, I like the song.

track 05 - Very rare electronic song, I'm not much into electronic music but I like certain songs, however, this one was n't good to me, it wasn't dancy neither catchy, sorry but I really can't get the song.

track 06 - Very repetitive song, similar style to the first four tracks

track 07 - Very girly song but it was agreable, I liked this one, those guitars, the drums, and the piano in the background gave the song a very nice touch. In fact I'm keeping this one.

track 08 - The music was good, but there was something about the singer I did not like, it was like Liam Gallagher trying to sing pop and to me, that wasn't good, or maybe he was too small to sound like a rock singer.

track 09 - Alanis Morrisette (or however you spell it) I don't mind her but well I prefer not having her in my mp3 player

track10 - Mix of... uh rap or something else with pop, and jazz and well sorry but I don't know how to say it.

track 11 - I don't like this style, it sounds like if it came from a musical

track 12 - MGMT - time to pretend... my favorite song of theirs and an excellent one

track 13 - It was ok, hip hop style singers with a uh pop song? No it's not pop, but something similar to that and gospel.

track 14 - A guy speaking (speaking not singing) to some cool background instruments. Interesting mix

track 15 - Piano and rythm guitar based song, the music was nice and you could barely hear the singer, but that was the point, a well-balanced sound

track 16 - Another kind of song that sound like a musical, did n't like it.

track 17 - Relaxing and soft song, it was ok

track 18- Aah what and ending to the mix! It just finished like it begun, with a short song, but this one has a more christmas - feeling. Very nice song.

OK in general, this was a mix of nice, lovely, soft songs with a similar style, it could be good for a lounge cd, but certainly only some songs there would be played frequently.

BTW sorry for my simple phrasing and description but I wasn't inspired today :D

Oh, Ricardo, sorry you didn't get more out of it, but I guess that's the gamble of the Mixtape Exchange. As I warned, I had tried to make it accessible to my original Mixtape partner, so it was always going to be a long shot that you'd like it. Will post the tracklist if you want to know about any of the artists.

If anyone hasn't been scared of by that review, the link to my Mix is

Update 6th November:

Gave you the wrong link!!! That's the Mix I recieved :embarassed: The link to my Mix is actually

http://rapidshare.com/files/156195555/coldplaying.zip

I downloaded Redgirl76's mix and I gotta say its FUN AND EXTEMELY DIVERSE! A serious booty shaker in places and yes surprisingly so... The presence of some genres I was not expecting had me thinking the whole time that I really should broaden my taste in music. I tend to be R&B and Rap-phobic because it so over played in the states that I am apparently missing little gems in the process.

1. Parchutes - Lovely 45 second track from my favorite band is a great way to capture my attention. LOVE IT!

2. Drops nicely into this awesome female vocal. Michelle N'degochello? Mary J. Blige? Queen Latifa? India Ali? WORD! Reminds me of when I lived in Chicago. This is something my friend Holly would have listened to ... From here the mix "strolls" nicely into...

3. JOHN MEYER. Perfect! Who said American acts were all bubble gum pop, country or rap? I love this guy

4. A fun theme is forming here. Like you really want the listener to SHAKE THAT THANG! I mean this track is Mo-town turned into itself with a vengance. BIG SMILE on my face:D:D:lol::lol: I am reminded that I take my music too seriously.

5. I feel like I know who this is. Cant put my finger on it. Ready for the fall or ready for the mall. I see where you thought it might be a little girly now... LOL :P Like bubble gum this track looses its sweetness, sometimes too quickly

6. THANK YOU! KT's Blackhorse In A Cherry Tree. LOVE HER! I played this song everyday for a year

7. This whole mix is like a Rocket Ship! Its took off. Youve done a great job so far. This tracks seductiveness was met by a quirky modern day "Lets Get Physical" Olivia Newton John vibe... This one is too "girly" for me. LOL

8. Interesting transition here. Somewhat out of place following the previous songs. I like it, not sure who it is. It starts out very interesting but gets a little bit repetative towards the end. I wonder whats next...

9. NO WAY!!!!:lol::lol: WHAT IS THIS FROM???? I WANT IT NOW. I have never heard this version. Ive played this 5 or 6 times since I got your mix Alison! I love her! Have you heard Flavors Of Entanglement yet? If not, I am going to upload it for you and PM it to you. It has Torch on it. The one I put on my mix to Zeoir! You have to hear it!

10. STILL all smiles from the previous track that I listened to twice before moving on. BIG genre jump here. This may be the only track on the mix that I just dont care for at all. Maybe the last one was so good that I need to give it another listen or two. NOT! Back to track 9 lol

11. Stevie Wonder! PERFECT in every way!

12. My favorite song from Oracular Spectacular! Played this a million times already. One more time does NOT hurt!

13. Nice entry here. British rapper has a "Rock Me Amedaeus" feel to it.

14. WOW! I will wear this song out for sure! Just WOW! Who is it Im buying it as soon as you tell me. Hilarious entry with all of the elements. I am so old Alison, this song is proof that I need to cut loose and live better!

15. Wonderful, soothing song here. Very much my taste. Strong, strong entry here. Another one I need to buy. Who is it?

16. Rapturous turn here into a moody, epic vibe that rekindles the old west in an indie package. Romantic and sweeping. Is that Kate Bush?

17. OHHH its ending soon isnt it! What fun! I love the theatrical nature of this song. The last 1/4 of you mix is a masterpiece! LOL Yours is soooo much different then mine.

18. Perfect ending

Overall, I have to say I love the Alanis Morisette track and it will LIVE on my mp3 for quite a while. It was fun fun fun! I cant wait to find out what albums you got tracks 9, 14 and 15 from they were the biggest standouts for me. Finally NO your taste in music does NOT suck! Far from it! Good mix Ali!

Post us the track list when you can.

Why, Sir, you make me blush!

:blush::blush::blush:

allison I never said I did not like it... I liked it but not that much, and yeah I want you to post the tracklist 'cause I want to keep some songs!! :P I just said it was too girly for me :P But don't worry I know why you did that, and besides what matters is that you like it, and I wanted to hear some fresh and new songs for me so thanks!!

ehm, are we talking about travis travis? ;D

could you please send me this one, david? :) would be great!
